Shalimar Golf Club

About
Shalimar Golf Club is a nine-hole golf course in Tempe. The course is best for beginners but it has enough challenges in store to make it a great option for more advanced players who want a quick round. The layout is comprised of three par 3s and six par 4s. It weaves through a smattering of mature trees and across gently rolling hills. The small greens can be quite tricky, especially since there are strategically placed bunkers lurking along some. Water hazards come into play on a few holes, including the 155-yard fifth, which is one of the golf course's toughest. You'll have to pull off a carry over the area's biggest lake to a heavily bunkered, narrow green. Shalimar Golf Club's ninth hole is the most well known though, mainly for the island green. In addition to the water, there are also four bunkers surrounding the green.

Time to shut down!
Apparently this course is slated for redevelopment in 2025. They seem to have decided to let it die a slow death, with more than half the course just plain dirt, tons of potholes and rough terrain, no maintenance of ball washers, fairways or tee boxes. Kind of unbelievable what they charged us to play! If you don’t mind being with hackers who have little regard for golf etiquette, knock yourself out!
Worse shape than normal
I've played this course numerous times before and while it's never been very nice, today was the worst I've encountered here. It had been over-watered so bad that there was water standing on many of the fairways. Not just muddy, but actual pools of water. Add to that some of the slowest players I've ever seen in front of us, plus pedestrians walking the cart paths and it made for a terrible round of golf. Won't play it again anytime soon and it sounds like it will be closing anyway.
Last season
Nice executive 9 holes for average golfers. All clubs were used. Conditions average as club is sold for development. Too bad.
Odd Place
Had heard about this course but never played before. Was going to book online but saw that there weren't many spots tsken so decided to pay at course. Both Golf Now and Shalimar's own website said it was $8 walking but when pro shop cashier finally showed up he said it was $22. Advised him of online rates and he said that was a mistake and just go ahead and book online, which I did. Have heard that course is closing in March and it kind of looked like that (ball washers empty, tee markers not on tee boxes, lots of standing water, etc.). Looks to me that they are just going to do the minimum til in closes, too bad.
Great bargain!
Course was in good shape, staff is always great! Pace of play was perfect for beginners to advanced.
Great Practice Exec course
This a great place to practice your irons and shots with out feeling out of place. It was perfect to walk it and will be back many more times. Staff is awesome!!!
Great little course
I am a new golfer and this was a great little course to learn on. Everyone was super friendly and we were not pushed at all.
Great value
Fairways in great condition. Can’t beat the price. Greens were a little slower but no complaints from this 15 handicap
Great for a quick 9
Only had time for 9 holes. Enjoyed the course. Pace moved fast. Enjoyed playing with Lupe. Had a drink after. Great crowd
I will play here again. Hope the course doesn't go away.
Fun neighborhood course
Shamar is always a good time! It’s a fun little neighborhood executive par 9. It’s got a good layout. It has good wide fairways for newer players.. That is what this golf course is primarily for new players, so if you expect pace of play, you are not gonna find that here. The bartenders rock and make great drinks for a good price. This is a no frills course that allows you to learn and develop your game. FYi there are locals that play and they think they own the course. Whatever. You will run into that. But once again this course teaches you all about golf and developing a thick skin!!!
Good layout
Course was in really bad shape. Greens were terrible. Fairways were dry. Bridges over creeks needed major repair very disappointed.
