Shalimar Golf Club
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2025.
Shalimar Golf Club is a nine-hole golf course in Tempe. The course is best for beginners but it has enough challenges in store to make it a great option for more advanced players who want a quick round. The layout is comprised of three par 3s and six par 4s. It weaves through a smattering of mature trees and across gently rolling hills. The small greens can be quite tricky, especially since there are strategically placed bunkers lurking along some. Water hazards come into play on a few holes, including the 155-yard fifth, which is one of the golf course's toughest. You'll have to pull off a carry over the area's biggest lake to a heavily bunkered, narrow green. Shalimar Golf Club's ninth hole is the most well known though, mainly for the island green. In addition to the water, there are also four bunkers surrounding the green.

I'll pass next time
They mix "foot (soccer) golf" with regular golf. Course is best suited for foot golf. Shaggy tee boxes, painfully slow greens and fairways were a snarl of, well, vegetation and standing water (at 2:00pm). There's a Ranger but we were hit into by a following single. Holes are poorly marked and poorly mapped. I may have played worse tracks in the past 40 years but I can't remember any.
Worst example of a golf course
Had flags out there for frisbee you could also play soccer there I don't believe this was a golf course it's a playground
this course isn't in good shape
Course is in bad shape even the putting greens, will try them one more time to see if changes are made
No putting greens
They had the tees moved which was fine. Seeding greens so they put the flags and holes in the rough. There was no putting in that . I could've stayed on the driving range for my game.
I left after the fourth hole. They should have closed.
Relunctant to play again
The Pro shop alerted us to the fact that the course was in terrible shape and being worked on. They told us it would be ready maybe in a month. However, since I booked the tee time on Golf Now there was no refund. so we played the course just for practice. Greens and tee were not payable. Fairways are in desperate repair. So after playing on the 9 fairways I was totally disappointed and I told the Pro Shop that I would not be back. At that point I was offered two free plays and that I should come back in a month to use them when they thought the course would be playable a gain.
I would think there might be a way for this to be on the Golf Now website, when a course in under repair and not playable. All it takes is someone to call the course periodically to get the status, especially those courses that are hit with heavy storms, like Arizona and a year ago Georgia courses were under way for two or three weeks from rain. I will go back in month to Shalimar and take them up on the play.
stay away until new grass is in
would be nice to advise you that overseeding in progress and that all tees and greens are temporary. Most were NOT even mown.
Bad shape
Course is in bad shape. Used to play this course a lot 15 years ago. Fairways looked as if they had not been mowed in a week as the grass was 3 in or more. battled with foot golfers during the round. Need new management.
Level It, Bulldoze It, Scrap It, Time To Go!
Course is in really bad shape. Saw a lot of signs in peoples back yards saying " Save Shalimar". I assume the course may be going away soon, it should. I would not play here again even if I was offered a Lifetime Membership.
Shaligusta
What can you say about Shalimar, it does not change much, and is a good course to get in 9 holes quick.
Pleasent 9 hole course.
Challenging 9 hole course- Make sure you have plenty of Golf balls-some days the course is hungry. I lost 5 today (Bad day for me)
Good Course Great Price
I like the course. Besides being hot outside it was still fun to play.
Great value and amazing staff
Paul and Tyler were very friendly. Diego and Chelsea served my beer with a smile. A true gem of a golf course
Good course for the price.
For $11 (total) per person with a cart it is an enjoyable 2.5 hours. Lots of walkers so the play can go a little slow. Also, on some of the holes the next Tee is behind the previous holes green so your forced to wait until the party Tees off before making your approach shot to the green. Course markings are extremely hard to find if they exist at all. That all being said, for the cost of what a bucket of driving balls would cost you at a upscale club, you can enjoy 9 holes on a decently cared for course and give your driver a good workout.
Great Beginners Course
I was happy I went as the course played well for a 9 hole course
Great value for the money
Moderately challenging with lots of water and sand. Fairways pretty hard, but greens in great shape.
Very good 9 hole course
The course is in very good shape. It allows a person to use most of his clubs. It is a fairly flat course so it is fun to walk.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
great course to get tuned up
Nice course off the beaten path. Staff is very accommodating they got us off early. Greens are in good shape. Fairways are decent but do have some rough spots. Would recommend.
Great value
Staff friendliness second to none, and tremendous value for cost

My wife loves to play this course to get warmed up for others. If you are looking for a quick 9 hole warm-up course in the Tempe area this will work. not a lot of sand or water.
Felt welcomed
As newer golfers we felt very welcome. We were able to get on earlier than our booking time which was nice. There was no one pushing us from behind so we could take our time and redo "flubbed" shots. Good value for money at this time in our golf experience. Nice to see a beverage cart; something we have never seen at the more expensive courses, which is strange.
