Comstock/River at Empire Ranch Golf Course
About
Empire Ranch Golf Course, situated in the picturesque Carson Valley, features 27 holes of golf that overlook the Carson River. Located just minutes from downtown Carson City, Empire Ranch's three individual nines offer three different 18-hole combinations that have a convenient location but still provide a challenging golf getaway. The Comstock/River layout features lakes and wetlands coming into play throughout. The fairways are also well guarded by strategically placed bunkers. It provides a fair test, but the golf course is forgiving enough for beginning and intermediate players. In addition to the three courses, Empire Ranch also offers extensive practice facilities and a staff of PGA Professionals who can provide golf instruction.

Good value, fast pace
I’ve played this course a few hundred times, so I’m rather fond of it. Unfortunately, the flood of a few years ago, reduced it from 27 to 18 holes, and there are a lot of holes that still show damage. Today the weather was perfect, but I think most golfers felt it would be too cold and windy to play. That was not the case so the lack of many golfers made for very fast play (which is often the case). My partner was on fire today and shot a personal best 82. He is a 20 handicap, so it was a good day!
Kinda Got Lost
I have played here before but it has been years. I found myself lost on where is the next hole 3 times because of poor direction indicators. The course is alot of fun and golfer friendly. I'll be back many more times going forward.
GREAT value
My buddy and I have been playing this course every other Monday. The greens are in great shape, and except for a handful of fairways, the flood damage from a few years ago is minimal. Every round includes a $4 food & beverage credit, so we will either have lunch between 9’s, or get a refillable fountain drink ($2) and a couple of their homemade cookies ($1 each). I’m not a dessert person, but the cookies are “to die for”.We almost always finish in only 3 hours, so pace of play is good.
Nice day
I played today. It was a bit warm but there was a breeze. Course conditions are improving but #9 still needs work.
All in all a good golf day..
Almost got hit by golffers on other fairways.
Did not care for the course at all. To many places you were in danger of getting hit with a ball rate of play was not good had to wait while the group in front of us hit two or three balls each off of tee box no marshal to hurry up play .will not play this course again
Still Recovering
This was my first time playing the course since Mother Nature wiped out the red course. The rest of the course is still recovering from a lot of water this year and some spots on the fairways were a little soupy to drive on. No marshals on the course to tell the groups (like the one’s in front of us today) to pick up their pace of play. Some people need to swallow their pride and realize they can’t drive a ball 275-300+ Yards so play off the tees that suit your game and while their at it fix your pitch marks on the green, it’s called etiquette and it’s really okay to respect the course as well as the players you’re holding up.
Great value
This is a course we will play all the time. No need to pay a lot. A good challenging course.
Course is in good shape, and the price is unbeatable.
First timer
Course condition was average at best. Greens were excellent but fairways were rough. Fairways had spots of standing water and bare spots in middle. Played for very low price would not consider at higher green fees
15 years later
Staying in the Truckee area and had a chance to re visit Empire Ranch. it still is a great flat course for walking Sadly the red 9 has been taken out of play. The blue and white 9s make a tight fit But I had no problems with wayward shots as the course was virtually empty
The only complaint: there was no water available on the entire course. I took one water bottle thinking a drinking fountain or water coolers would be strategically placed throughout the course, especially in the summer. The
Last couple of holes I was really struggling.
