Comstock/River at Empire Ranch Golf Course
About
Empire Ranch Golf Course, situated in the picturesque Carson Valley, features 27 holes of golf that overlook the Carson River. Located just minutes from downtown Carson City, Empire Ranch's three individual nines offer three different 18-hole combinations that have a convenient location but still provide a challenging golf getaway. The Comstock/River layout features lakes and wetlands coming into play throughout. The fairways are also well guarded by strategically placed bunkers. It provides a fair test, but the golf course is forgiving enough for beginning and intermediate players. In addition to the three courses, Empire Ranch also offers extensive practice facilities and a staff of PGA Professionals who can provide golf instruction.

Good Deal
This a good deal and I will do it again (as I have done previously). Considering the time of the season and the lack of any substantial precipitation, the course is in a reasonably good shape. Have and will continue to recommend this deal to others.
OK course, but lots of goose fecal matter.
I played the course on a fairly cold and windy day. I've played it at this time of year for several years, and normally enjoy it, but this time we were surprised at the quantity of goose fecal matter on the course. We called the club house to see if one of the three nine hole courses had less fecal matter, but were told that they've had a huge problem with the geese this year. On several greens we just had to pick up (our balls, that is!).
Great course for a day with the guys!
Forgiving, fun, and entertaining! ...Good food, great drinks, fast and friendly staff! ...Walkable, playable, and warm!
goose gatherings :( / :) great greens!
Too many swamps
Course layout was nothing special. Too much wetland area. Mostly every hole had a swamp near it.
Great Value!
5 stars!! Got a great deal through GolfNow.com! Course was wide open - play time under 3 1/2 hours.
Played Blue (Sierra) and White (River). These 9's were in great shape from tee to green!
I read reviews regarding the course layout being a bit confusing for 1st timers here, but I found it fairly easy to navigate by taking time to study signage, which helped a lot - especially with the hole layouts! Tee signs showing this were a huge help in planning my attack for every hole! Much better than the scorecards. Nicest and most informative signs I've seen!
The pro shop and restaurant staff were also extremely helpful and ffriendly!
My only "Con" is both were closed at the end of my round at 5:30pm, and I was really looking forward to a post-round beverage! Leaving thirsty cost 'em a star here!
This course is on my "Definitely Play Again" list!
End of Summer Golf Perfection
Golf at Empire was fabulous! The weather was anywhere from 77-82 degrees although a little smoky from the King Fire. Wildlife, River, views, and hardly anyone playing on a gorgeous last day of summer.
nice course, bring lots of balls
The course is very green and any ball off the fairway will be hard to find. Lots a
of water as well so more opportunity to lose balls. Good challenge for a high handicapper. Worth the money . Staff friendly and helpful.
Nice course
First time playing the course was a little confusing. I played alone and had some trouble knowing which way to hit the first shot as there are three intertwined nine hole courses. Twice I had go grab my ball and re-tee because I hit to the wrong hole.
Overall the course played great...great value for the money.
Empire Ranch
Course in fair condition, lots of hazards..some were hidden well. Greens were slow but firm. Sand traps were sub standard as no actual sand existed in them, this is the one thing that needs fixing for an enjoyable round. Good value .
Beautiful Day for Golf
Course in good shape. Wind strong off and on but welcome due to heat. Haven't played here in a few years, but changes. made are good. Played in 3 1/2 hours. Thoroughly enjoyed the day and scenery. Great value for the money.
Surprised
After hearing about the turmoil this course has been involved, I was pleasantly surprised. I was greatest by the Golf Pro and given a few tips about the course.
Although not prestine, the course is well maintained. Ruff is truly ruff,
Fairway grass is a little longer than what one my be accustom and grass on the green is also a bit, although now exessively, high making the greens slower and more challenging.
Good course near Tahoe
Good to find value anywhere near Tahoe. Just 45 minutes to Stateline Nevada and affordable but still challenging.
Good walk
I've played this course many times, they have three nines. The red course was pretty much closed last year because of winter kill, I played it yesterday and it was in pretty good shape. It was very windy and that makes for some hard holes. This is one of my favorite walks, unfortunately my partner will not walk and we got a good deal on golfnow. Anyhow Sean and the boys in the clubhouse are always in good spirits and make for a good time, it was fun.
Empire Ranch
Great experience except for pace of play. The course should not allow one twosome to bottleneck the entire course. Never saw a Marshall.
Good Place to Warm Up
Empire Ranch is a great place to play for the money. The fairways are wide and the greens are big. The greens are a bit slow but where is poana very fast in the spring. Most of these greens are a mixture of poana and either a hybrid or something else in Northern Nevada. Others of course are pure bent and I love fast ben greens.
Anyhow we are using Empire to stay sharp for other higher dollar events and it is perfect for that. Beat it around out there and help keep them open as all these courses suffer the recession.
Ed
good place to play
The staff here is always friendly and they keep the course in nice shape. I use GolfNow to book for the afternoon and save.
Where is the next hole?
The course was in very good condition including the practive area. The pro shop attendant was friendly and was very helpful regarding my questions. A course you must play but be careful of where the next hole might be for the course you are on.
Best Value in Northern Nevada
My wife and I play there almost every weekend. This course is very friendly to women and to those like myself who barely break 100, as there are 5 tee locations for those who want to either "tee it forward", or those who prefer a challenge and play from the tips. There are three 9 hole courses, the "red, white & blue", the blue is a "feel good" course which plays slightly easier. Staff are always very helpful and friendly!
good track
The course was in good shape being it is the middle of November. Greens were fern and fast. Great price $36 including cart for 2.
