Nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Toiyabe Golf Club (formerly known as Thunder Canyon Country Club and Lightning "W" Ranch Golf Course.) has a picturesque landscape of shimmering lakes, meandering streams, and towering pines. This course has a traditional layout that features contoured fairways and fast, generous greens. There are nearly 50 bunkers strategically placed throughout and water comes into play on 14 holes. Elevated tees provide spectacular views of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain. The golf course is challenging but still player-friendly with seven sets of tees. In addition to the course, Toiyabe Golf Club also offers practice facilities that include chipping and sand practice areas along with an expansive putting green.

Course is in horrible shape

Course is in rough shape. Temp green on one of the holes, par 4 changed to par 3, bunkers were muddy or wet. I understand that winter was rough this year, but paying $60 is not worth it. Could have played a course in better shape for $75. Also, when I checked in the guy wanted to charge me again.

Bad Timing

Due to weather the back nine was closed. We were allowed to play 18 which meant the front nine was overcrowded. Overall the course conditions were below average because of the harsh winter weather. By late spring the course should be in excellent condition.

Great course and great layout. The back nine was closed due to weather conditions so we played the front nine twice. Course conditions were typical late fall condition which was expected. Cannot comment on the bar/restaurant as they were closed.

Course was in good shape except for areas on some fairways and along some of the cart paths that are either over-watered or have broken sprinkler heads. The weather was sunny, mid-70s with no wind or breezes. Staff was great! We all had a great day!
