About
Nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Toiyabe Golf Club (formerly known as Thunder Canyon Country Club and Lightning "W" Ranch Golf Course.) has a picturesque landscape of shimmering lakes, meandering streams, and towering pines. This course has a traditional layout that features contoured fairways and fast, generous greens. There are nearly 50 bunkers strategically placed throughout and water comes into play on 14 holes. Elevated tees provide spectacular views of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain. The golf course is challenging but still player-friendly with seven sets of tees. In addition to the course, Toiyabe Golf Club also offers practice facilities that include chipping and sand practice areas along with an expansive putting green.

Sprinklers
Can't have the sprinklers on during a round.
Only gripe, otherwise things were great!! Be back soon!!
Nice layout. Greens role great. Avoid down bill putts
Beautiful Challenging course
First time at Toiyabe. Very nice course with water coming into play on many of the holes. Need to play it once to learn where to lay up as some shots are blind and there is no map of holes on the scorecard. Greens run true and fast. Lots of elevation changes and we played on a windy day which made it more challenging as the uphill holes were playing into the wind. Pace of play was slow… 5 hour round but could have been due to windy conditions.
Pure
Greens are rollingggg! Great challenge of a layout
Very nice course
A nice course with the right amount of challenge! The locals were very hospitable and friendly! Highly recommend this course!
Great 1st Experience
It was a beautiful course! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. There were spots on the course that where under repair but it was handled well and marked properly. Would definitely play this course again.
Best of the area
Very nice course. A couple funky holes on front nine but overall good/great layout. Very nice par 3s and back nine is special. My favorite of all the courses in Carson Valley.
Very Good Course
First time playing and pleasantly surprised. This is a very very good public course. Very challenging with a lot of variety and imagination. Greens were in impeccable condition. The 5 par threes were all different, very challenging but very fair. There is a driveable par 4 and also some longer par 4’’s with doglegs in both direction. 5 par 5’s with varying lengths. For the money this is one of the better non private courses I’ve played.
