Nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Toiyabe Golf Club (formerly known as Thunder Canyon Country Club and Lightning "W" Ranch Golf Course.) has a picturesque landscape of shimmering lakes, meandering streams, and towering pines. This course has a traditional layout that features contoured fairways and fast, generous greens. There are nearly 50 bunkers strategically placed throughout and water comes into play on 14 holes. Elevated tees provide spectacular views of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain. The golf course is challenging but still player-friendly with seven sets of tees. In addition to the course, Toiyabe Golf Club also offers practice facilities that include chipping and sand practice areas along with an expansive putting green.

One of Reno’s Best

One of my favorite Reno courses to play. Nice driving range. Great condition and nice greens. Back 9 is beautiful in the foothills of the Sierras. View of the back side of Slide Mt. Friendly staff too. I highly recommend it.

First Day of Vacation

The course was very well maintained.There were some soft spots but due to watering and how you must water to keep everything green.

If you wish Golf to be fun you must allow golfers to choose if they wish to play with another couple or a foursome. Then if you are with people you don’t know you don’t know how they assume pace of play the Rules.

It could not have been any slower if we were a twosome and a twosome ahead of us.

The price for afternoon was good.

Gorgeous setting

Very scenic, unforgivable rough on many holes, but a "fair" golf course. Was quite wet/damp when we played, following a rain storm.

The Duncan golf courses use to be the place to go. Now I just hear from locals its the worse place to go because they stack the tee times so close together its miserable and golfers see a full parking lot and then just leave.

Enjoyable Course, Nice Layout, Good Conditions

I played here while on a trip to Tahoe. Well worth the drive down the hill to avoid crazy high greens fees on Tahoe-area courses. The overall layout is excellent with nice views and challenging water and sand placement. Course conditions were very nice. Pace of play was good enough. Some waiting. A nice course for the better golfer, with good length from back tees and lots of risk/reward types of shots. I really enjoyed it.
