About
Nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Toiyabe Golf Club (formerly known as Thunder Canyon Country Club and Lightning "W" Ranch Golf Course.) has a picturesque landscape of shimmering lakes, meandering streams, and towering pines. This course has a traditional layout that features contoured fairways and fast, generous greens. There are nearly 50 bunkers strategically placed throughout and water comes into play on 14 holes. Elevated tees provide spectacular views of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain. The golf course is challenging but still player-friendly with seven sets of tees. In addition to the course, Toiyabe Golf Club also offers practice facilities that include chipping and sand practice areas along with an expansive putting green.

Nice course, great views
Ground was a bit wet and greens were ultra-fast.
Gorgeous views though and drinks cart shows up frequently.

One of the best!
I palyed several courses In Reno area and this is a gem:
well-maintained and clean surropunding, rolling hills with water hazards, nice back drop of mountains, not-too-fast/slow greens.
Only regret is, should have found this place long ago!
Good shape
It was a little cold for the time of year. The course was in good shape,, game pace was good, company was excellent. Had a wonderful day.

Pace of play the back 9 was very slow at first, there was a 4some with two kids, the kids should get more lessons before they hit the course

Five hours of play due to overbooking.
I think the course is enjoyable, albeit overbooking. At the par 3 holes, there were 2-4 groups waiting. It’s horrendous experience. There were some unruly players who constantly hit the balls into us, risking hitting us. Wide greens had some geese and duck dung and bunkers were half- filled with water. Fairways were not maintained. There were no yardage markers. Restrooms were clean and had good supplies with good running water. I felt sad that I couldn’t enjoy the game this time, after driving up here 185 miles and staying three nights in a hotel because we had very good 2 experience in the past. We will not come back until we hear that the course conditions are improved but it is still one of the best courses in Reno area. Thanks.
We’ll maintained and changelling
Great time on the course today. The negative pace of play rating was because it took over 5 hours to finish. They had a shotgun corporate event ahead of our tee time and it was sloooow. That said a wonderful layout and great value for the money.
Beautiful course
We love playing this course. It's always in top condition and it's challenging yet easy enough to make it enjoyable. Pace of play varies, but ok if slower groups let you play through. Greens were in perfect shape when we played. Staff is friendly. They have a driving range and practice putting green.
Slow play
Pace was a little and wasn't that bad. But our tee time was 2:06 and by the time we finish, 6:30ish, the clubhouse was locked up and was unable to go to the bathroom.

Course is in great shape, fairways are a little wet and the greens are fast! Spectacular views!
