Nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Toiyabe Golf Club (formerly known as Thunder Canyon Country Club and Lightning "W" Ranch Golf Course.) has a picturesque landscape of shimmering lakes, meandering streams, and towering pines. This course has a traditional layout that features contoured fairways and fast, generous greens. There are nearly 50 bunkers strategically placed throughout and water comes into play on 14 holes. Elevated tees provide spectacular views of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain. The golf course is challenging but still player-friendly with seven sets of tees. In addition to the course, Toiyabe Golf Club also offers practice facilities that include chipping and sand practice areas along with an expansive putting green.

Beautiful course/good shape but no tracking or yardage marks

Course was beautiful and in good shape but make sure to bring a gps or tracking scope because the carts don’t have one and the course has no markings anywhere besides the tee box. This was frustrating but other than it being a little slow paced, great course with excellent placing in the mountains.

Good Walking Course

I love to walk and this is a course to do it with only a few hills toward the end. Fairways and tee boxes were in great shape. Greens were fast.

Played it before I like the course, was very smokey, then very windy. The course is in as good of shape as any in the area better than most in the same price range.I played badly but the greens rolled well and the fairways were green.

Terrible Service

Can’t even fill the golf carts with gas! We ran out of gas on the 16 th hole! Tried to call the pro shop and nobody answered numerous calls! A nice young couple we were paired up with gave us their cart and walked and carried their bags in ! We are retired in our late 60s! The group behind us also said that he ran out of gas on the 5th hole!

I guess GolfNow bookings doesn’t include gas! We were lucky to be paired up with the nice young couple that gave up their cart!

EXCELLENT COURSE

I PLAYED THE BLACK TEES AND THOUGHT THE COURSE WAS VERY CHALLENGING, BUT VERY FAIR. THE COURSE WAS A BIT SOFT IN GENERAL (PROBABLY DUE TO WATER NEEDED IN SUMMER HEAT), AND THIS RESULTED IN THE COURSE PLAYING FAIRLY LONG (NOT A LOT OF ROLL OUT ON DRIVES) THE COURSE IS VERY PRETTY, ESPECIALLY THE BACK 9 WHICH IS MORE IN THE TREES. GREENS ARE SHAPED NICELY, AND THEY CAN TUCK PINS IN VARIOUS AREAS ON THE GREENS. ALL IN ALL A REALLY NICE COURSE. PAR 5'S ARE PRETTY LONG FROM BACK TEES!

Great Views

Course was in great condition, roughs were thick. Great views of the mountains, enjoyed playing this. Would have preferred not using mats in the driving range with them having tee boxes set up in tbe grass. Staff was friendly, didn't get to try the bar and grill due to a wedding closing it off to everyone else. It played slow since we got behind a code of 4somes that were incredibly slow and didn't seem to let groups play through.
