Nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Toiyabe Golf Club (formerly known as Thunder Canyon Country Club and Lightning "W" Ranch Golf Course.) has a picturesque landscape of shimmering lakes, meandering streams, and towering pines. This course has a traditional layout that features contoured fairways and fast, generous greens. There are nearly 50 bunkers strategically placed throughout and water comes into play on 14 holes. Elevated tees provide spectacular views of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain. The golf course is challenging but still player-friendly with seven sets of tees. In addition to the course, Toiyabe Golf Club also offers practice facilities that include chipping and sand practice areas along with an expansive putting green.

First time playing here
This is a really fun course to play. It was in good shape for early May. Another week or two and it will be in great shape.The layout of the course is very good with a good deal of variety between holes, The course goes up and down the foothills. All of the staff was very friendly. Of the 5 courses we played during the week, this one was my favorite.

Great time!
My first time here and definitely won’t be my last! Beautiful layout, tough but fair. Greens were big and undulating and quick! We got lucky because there was hardly any wind and not a cloud in the sky and 70 degrees! Staff is very friendly and even had a cart girl working in a Monday afternoon. Really enjoyed myself today and will be coming back from Fresno to play again!!
