About
Nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Toiyabe Golf Club (formerly known as Thunder Canyon Country Club and Lightning "W" Ranch Golf Course.) has a picturesque landscape of shimmering lakes, meandering streams, and towering pines. This course has a traditional layout that features contoured fairways and fast, generous greens. There are nearly 50 bunkers strategically placed throughout and water comes into play on 14 holes. Elevated tees provide spectacular views of Mt. Rose and Slide Mountain. The golf course is challenging but still player-friendly with seven sets of tees. In addition to the course, Toiyabe Golf Club also offers practice facilities that include chipping and sand practice areas along with an expansive putting green.

Very good conditions
Despite a little snow the course is in nice condition. Yes! Lots of water fowl poop in places.
Staff let us play with the warning still snow in some parts of the course “.
Soaking yet.
Course is overwatered, why? It’s mid November. Much of the course is casual water.
Oh, and an hour frost delay was not relayed via e mail. No communication.

Greens were excellent. Fairways and tees also really good. Beautiful course!!!
great fall day
What a great round Mark and I had at Toiyabe on a beatuiful fall day, no WIND, which is what this course can throw at you. We had the course all to our selves after we jumped ahead of a slow group. The fairways had been punched but your ball still got a very good roll. Now to the greens, they were all but perfect in looks and condition. I might have fixed 6 ball marks all round. For early Nov the course was in great condition. Oh I almost forgot the bunkers sucked.
Should have been in better shape
First time playing this course. Greens were verygood. However, the course was very wet in many places and the wet areas were not roped off. Since these areas were not roped off, cart drivers were unaware of these wet areas and would regularly drive right through them making them even worse. The golf course maintenance in general was lacking (aside from the greens) and very disappointing.

A bit of a challenge.
Retired couple, both just intermediate golfers. Course is really well maintained and beautiful views. A real challenge for us but the views were worth it.
Fast greens, wet areas
This is one of the best public courses in the region. Today the greens were really fast. There are some very wet areas in some fairways and rough areas, so be careful where you drive your cart so you don't get stuck in the mud. As usual, the wind picked up in the afternoon, but it wasn't as strong as I've seen it before. We enjoyed our round.
