Escape the snow & play Sanctuary Ridge Photo submitted by DAB4par on 12/05/2014
great layout, awful conditions
i used to play this course over 10 years ago when it first opened. it was a lot of fun, boasting the biggest elevation changes in central florida. it has since changed ownership, and i was very disappointed to see how badly the conditions have deteriorated. the greens were very slow. the fairways were full of weeds and overgrown. the areas around the greens were mostly dirt and anthills with clumps of crabgrass. and to pay $50 for this really pushed the experience to the limits of enjoyment. there are far too many great courses in central florida to waste money here. i hope they get new management who makes the financial commitment, because the layout is great and it could be a fantastic course.
Course appears to be improving
I've been playing here since it opened. Usually once or twice a year when I visit Clermont. It's normally in fair shape, but this time the greens were better than I've seen them in years. It's obvious the new management is working to improve the overall conditions. I hope things go well as several courses in Lake County have closed in the last few years. It's such an interesting layout and not what one would expect from a Florida course. I will definitely play here again and recommend that others give it a try.
Greens very good fairways need work, layout for a Florida course is very interesting .
A great afternoon of golf
One of the better options amidst a plethora of choices.
Like the course, like the staff (particularly Larry the regular starter, a really no-nonsense guy), like the scenic elevated views, like the greens but the fairways could do with a lot of water and more grass which should cure itself come with the summer rains.
Course is rarely busy in the late afternoons, didn't see another player the whole round. A great time to play golf and relax towards the evening and dusk.
I would do it again and again
Improving
Like many central FL. courses Sanctuary Ridge has struggled with the glut of courses built 20 years ago, reduced play and increasing maintaince costs. It seems that the current management has righted the ship, and is getting the course back in shape. Greens are very good now. Still much work to do on fairways, bunkers and tee boxes, but I have seen improvement over the last couple of months. Hopefully this continues and they get this very interesting layout back into great shape. Still one of the truly fun and interesting tracts around thanks to huge elevation changes, spectacular views and the options available off 5 sets of tee boxes.
“DIAMOND” in the ROUGH !
Now that “Legends GCC in Clermont is closed, This course has the advantage of being the #1 course in the area
The team Truely calling the shots, NOT the GM, Operations, Financially need to formulate a plan that will work and get this course to where it needs to be. It would be a travesty for this course to close due to improper management
Needs work
This is one of the nicest courses around, the layout is beautiful, I consider it my home course, unfortunately it is in very bad shape. They say it's under new management so I hope they put some money back into it and get it back in the shape it was a few years ago. To nice of a course to be in this bad a shape
Always a challenge and a pleasure
Many changes of elevation make it interesting. While the course had dried out making the fairways a little bare in many places and the greens were not quite in their best condition overall the course was certainly good enough for a good round of golf.
The course was almost empty, we did not see another group for the whole round and we finished in just over 4 hours. The carts were clean, many cold drinking water servers.
With summer rains coming, the conditions will only get better and I will play again and again!
Sad shap
One of the most beautiful courses we'll never play again. Greens nice, the rest of the course a barnyard.
Pro shop almost empty. Smell of perfume. Worth, maybe, $20 .Not over 40. Sad, but true !!
Pace of play was under 4 hrs
We have played this course many times in the past 7 years. Layout is challenging, unfortunately each year the course has deteriorated. Greens are inconsistent, fairways lack grass. It’s too bad, as it was a great course. Would still recommend playing it for the challenge.
Sanctuary Ridge
Course is not in great shape. Bunkers need work. Greens not up to par. A great layout that needs attention.
Love the hills of Clermont
I really enjoy playing this course. I love the elevation and course contour. It's a fun course, will definitely play again.
Home away from home course
I have now played this course about 5 times over the last few years when coming here to see family. I really love this course! Always in good shape, staff is very friendly and course is a challenge from the gold tees. I look forward to my next visit this fall.
Patrick from Connecticut
Played the course once a week for the past 2.5 months and can't get enough.
so many elevations
there is so many elevation changes here that it helps to play with a local. I was lucky enough to get paired with "Bill" who says he plays there 3-4 x a week. he helped guide me to a very strong round in the 70s. (78) Bill is 72, and played a great round of -1(70). congrats.
i highly recommend playing this course, and if its your first time, please try to get paired with someone who knows the course. Half the holes i would have hit into the wrong area. course has the rightnumber of risk reward holes.
course conditions were not great at the start, but got better as each hole went by. fairways could have a bit more grass, but the the greens were nice.
i got a great price at $12. driving range left a bit to be desired, but at $12, i cant complain, and i would play every round i play in florida there at that price.
Fun layout, Unique, but in desperate need of TLC
This is a great course design, and very unique for the area. With dramatic elevation changes to well -placed bunkers and hazards, the layout can be both forgiving and rewarding for those that want to take risks.
Greens are in great shape, and roll very nice. The rest fo the conditions leave a lot to be desired. Fairways are hard and not much grass. Sand traps haven't been raked or groomed.
For the money, I think I would recommend it -- but would warn about the conditions. I think they put all their resources into maintaining the greens and have let some of the other areas deteriorate. I would play it again only because of the design and layout of the course.
I hope they can get some capitol and really fix the course, could be a hidden gem.
Challenging but rough.
This was the first time playing this course. The starter was very friendly and helpful. The course was very dry and generally in fairly rough condition but the dry spell probably hasn’t helped it. The greens though were very good. This course has serious elevation changes and doglegs on almost every hole which makes it challenging but at times a little odd especially when unfamiliar with the course. The pace of play was ridiculously slow. Some holes were backed up 2 or 3 groups deep. People were dropping out all over the place. Don’t even think about using the port a John on back nine. It may be the most disgusting one I have ever seen.
