Good course
Only played here a few times but seem to play well when I do. Decent course in decent shape. Only played because I got an extra 25% discount which brought the "hot deal" down to a level I'm willing to pay. Brief interaction with the staff was good. I got there early and was let out early as there was space available.
One thing I have questioned... Hole #2 is a par 3 and there are two of them. Supposedly they alternate between them for which one they use. They are right in line with each other and I often wonder why they don't link them together to make a long 4 or short 5 out of it. The course is currently a par 70 and making it a 71 or 72 would be a little better I should think.
I would recommend the course if you can get it at the right price as it plays a little on the happy side of easy and is in good shape.
Great tune up course to rebuild confidence
What a great all around course. It's a bit on the easier side with only a 70 slope rating but it's such a blast to play. I like to use this course as a tune-up course to play before a tournament. Largely because it's fun, there are a lot of very nice layouts, and it's still very challenging. I carry a 13 handicap and usually break 80 which puts me in a great state of mind for more challenging courses like Cinnabar hills.
Definitely recommend it... oh and the French Toast is amazing!
Course is a par 70, slope rating is 116 from the blue tees, easy, but not THAT easy.
Keeps You Coming Back
One of the best recommendations for a golf course is the number of first timers at a course who when the round is done INSIST they are coming back. I've been playing Spring Valley for years and I hear people say this all the time. You see this comment in many of the other reviews too.
Here are some of the reasons I hear from others over and over that resonate with me.
o The variety of the holes on the course hold your interest and add to the fun of playing here
o The Superintendent and staff do a great job maintaining the course
o The owners continue to invest in course improvements
o The greens are challenging on both approach shots and putting, some have significant illusions
o The staff are friendly and accommodating
o While a mountain course, it's still very walk-able
o It also drains really well, which makes it a go to course during the rainy season
o The amenities are surprisingly good for a course in this price range (from the clubhouse that is a popular venue for weddings and has entrees like cheese burger and french dip that people rave about to the on course snack shack that you pass three times)
o O yeah, the course is a good value
The negatives?
o The driving range is up the side of a mountain, which is a little funky
o Some of the greens have so many undulations that at certain times of the year they have to put the pins in places they shouldn't to give the high traffic parts of the greens a chance to recover
o It's gotten popular, which has impacted pace of play, especially on the weekends
o There are two #2 holes, #2b is off the side of a mountain and a lot more fun, but isn't open nearly enough for most player's satisfaction
Love playing this course
I love playing this course. With wide fairways and not much rough, it's very forgiving. Water is a significant hazard on three of the holes. Fortunately, I played those well. Greens were in excellent condition and didn't present too much break. I have had two of my four best rounds at Spring Valley.
The only drawback is that it seems a little pricey on weekends. I got a good deal through Golf Now for my round on Thursday. I'm retired so now I can play on weekdays, with cheaper rates and usually faster play.
Longest round ever played
Wow were to start, our tee time was 9:07 we tee'd off at almost 10:00.Every hole on the course we had a 10 minute wait(two groups ahead of us) which drastically demolishes your tempo.I talked to the head of the shop and he simply stated were very busy today.Well unless there booking people every 5 minutes I can't see how they can be that far behind at 9:07.Our round over 6 hrs 20 mins.Checked in at 8:30 and finished golfing at 3:26.When we walked in to eat they said kitchen was closing in 4 minutes so no chicken wings just quick food.....seriously kitchen closes at 3:30 on at packed Saturday and NO cart girl on the course.I complained to the golf shop and the guy came out and gave 5.00 tokens per foursome(Oh boy 1.25 off a beer each how generous)And at 75.00 a person they have to be kidding this is just a low rate muni course with little appeal ,Huge mistake coming there for that money Callipee or Poppy Ridge is a sure bet at a much higher level of course.I was frankly amazed at the crowd there considering this course is nothing special I was in a tournament so had no choice but will not shoot there again at any cost.
You caught them on a bad day. Pace of play is usually pretty good at Spring Valley, especially compared to other courses in the South Bay. 4 to 4.5 hours on weekdays is about the most you'll see. Weekends is more variable, but as someone who has played there a lot I can tell you your pace of play was way out on the lunitic fringe for this course.
Very nice layout and great conditions. Slow play.
nice views of the valleys, great staff. Very slow play in the back nine
Good course. Value for money
Spring valley golf course in Milphitas is good. Good layout. Value for money. Pace of play is normally good.
Fairly easy layout, with a few tricky greens
Most of the course is straightforward. However there are a few tricky holes, especially the green on #13. Shoot for the right side of the green because everything feeds to the left front.
Beautiful and Forgiving Course
This was our second time playing this course and we will definitely play here more often. The course was wet due to recent rains which caused balls to stick in the fairways but overall we had a great time. The course of play was good but we had some younger folks trying to push our pace without looking to see the speed of everyone ahead of us. This only became a problem on hole 14 where it is a blind tee box.
It was a wet day
It was a wet day but the greens were very nice and the play was very swift
Fun, Fast, and Friendly
The course was in great condition (Wow, challenging greens-fast).
We were the first group out this day and with steady play finished in 2:45. Very nice.
Great day
Pace slowest I have played there. Take that away a great day with very good conditions
3 groups on the tee box
Fun course but the pace was horrid when I went out. One guy in our group left at the 9th hole and I should have left with him.
Greens Aerated Without Warning
It's surprised us that the greens were punched without notify us. Did not enjoy much.
Always a pleasant experience
This is a fun course....not much sand, but the greens can be challenging...generally fast pace of play
Pace of Play
Pace of play resulted in a 5 hour round. We were a 4 some. In front of us was another 4 some. Initially, the course was a little crowded with groups in front of the group in front of us. However, by the time we came to the 6th hole, the congestion had thinned but the group in front of us zig-zagged down every hole and the pace never changed. 5 HOUR ROUND with no help from any marshall.
Good Value....Good course
Spring Valley is a good course with some challenge. Pace of play was average for a Sunday (about 4:45 - 5 hours) and the course is in good condition. One note the greens, like many courses I have played in the area, are slow and bumpy. Hard to get a true roll on the greens. Otherwise a good course to play.
Got a hot deal for $32 tees times!
The pace of play was a little slow but everything else was great! We found a deal on GolfNow for $32 tee times. Can't beat that!
Spring Valley - July 2, 2015
Overall the course is in really good shape for the drought conditions. However, it is over crowded on Thursdays and the pace of play is slow. 4hrs 45 minutes to complete the round.
nothing exceptional but better then a muni.
I've played this course a few times, overpriced unless you get a deal. Its sister course summit pointe is much better and more challenging and cheaper as well go figure.Theres a couple good holes here though and the greens are in great condition, very forgiving for high handicappers.
It was a par 4 years ago. You could not tell if the group ahead of you was gone. Most second shots were an extreme downhill lie, and it slowed the pace to a crawl.
