Mountain View at Desert Willow Golf Resort
About
The second of two Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry designs at Desert Willow resort in Cathedral City, Mountain View is a little shorter (6,913 yards) and boasts wider fairways than the Firecliff Course.
There are also half as many bunkers as at Firecliff. Which still means there are 98 here.
Still, water comes into play more on Mountain View. The course name is no misnomer either. Golfers actually do get great views of the Santa Rosa Mountains as they take on Hurdzan's desert landscaping. This is resort golf with real nature touches.

Simply stunning! Photo submitted by ForeinSD on 05/09/2017
Would go again and again!
Setting the stage first. I'm an 18 hdcp. First time here. Hot mid August day in Palm Springs. This is the nicest, cleanest, well maintained place I've ever been to. I was having a bad golf day. Ended up shooting 97. Could've been in the high 80s on a good day, for me. Layout was amazing. I was very impressed. Booked this place, with cart for $29 on GolfNow app!! Like the subject title says, I would come back again and again.
Now for the bad. Didn't get a staff person helping me for a while. There was an event going on, so I give the wait staff a pass on helping me get some gatorade at the bar. They were very busy. Once helped. He was very nice. Other than that hiccup, the staff was very nice and helpful. The other negative was the sand bunkers. Went to other lower quality courses that had nice fluffy sand. Bunkers were on the hard side here. Something I did not expect because of how beautiful everything was.
I'm always coming back to Desert Willow.

summer deal
Golf now summer deal. Course is in good condition with greens holding. Only gripe is the bunkers are too difficult for resort type course.
Love this course!!!
Played this course for the first time 6 years ago, and have been waiting for the chance to visit California and play again. The course was everything I remembered and more.
Course is beauitiful!
Got a great deal through golf now. Four of us had no idea what to expect. This course is beautiful. We had a great time. Will definately be back for golf here.
Must play if in the Palm Desert area!
Absolute must play if in the Palm Desert area. Hard to believe this is a municipal course. Played the "friendlier" of the two courses (Firecliff being the "players" course.) Conditions were phenomenal for being late June, staff friendly & amenities were top notch. Will definitely return when plans allow.
Excellent Resort Course!
I have played almost every resort course in the valley and am frequently dismayed by their rampant real estate development. This is one of the very few which locate its housing relatively unobtrusively. As a result, you have good views of the surrounding mountains and do not feel that you are playing in some back alleys. I have no reason to think that the overall design of the course is head and shoulder above any other resort club in this area. But the course is interesting and you encounter many such familiar challenges as water hazards, bunkers and island greens. Overall condition of the course is excellent. The only exception is the greens. Maybe because of the time of the year, greens are mowed to the bare minimum. They are not particularly fast, however. You have to constantly remind yourself to putt a little firmer. Practice facilities are very good and free. My wife and I truly enjoyed the experience.
Very good shape
The course was in very good shape, my group wants to paly the course again.
one of the best in the valley
always in great shape, beautiful lay out and great views, cannot go wrong, the is a price range for just about all golfers
Desert Gem
Very playable, 2nd shot golf course for all levels of golfer. I was a bit worried that it would be too tough for my 35 hncp wife, but she loved it. I am a 2 hdcp and I loved it.
A Fantastic Course - With A Few Annoying Features
Overall, the course conditions were excellent. To score your best, you must play this course a few times. There are several green complexes that have hazards you can't see from the fairway. And the greens themselves have hidden levels and drop-offs that frequently can't be seen from the fairway. Unfortunately, the cart GPS doesn't always provide all the information that is needed (like the fact that water hazard extends to the back of the 18th green on the left side). However, the course is in great shape, and definitely worth playing again.
Now for the annoyances. First, the beeper system used for calling you up to the first tee is very annoying. A ten minute warning would be nice. Second, the cart GPS was the most annoying system EVER! Not only does the system contantly bombard you with ADS, but it also cuts the speed of your cart to about 1 MPH (without warning) whenever you get within 30-40 YARDS of each green. And your cart will refuse to go more than 1 MPH even if you head directly to the cart path. Very annoying! I understand not wanting carts too close to the greens, but this system was ridiculous
great course, Golfnow price was higher than regular
This will be on my short list of favorite courses. A little shorter than some courses, but still a decent challenge, greens were fast but true. par 3's are not rink-dink. Good drives are rewarded, but landing areas on most holes wide enough for a little bit of spraying tee shots. If I get bored on the white tees, I could simply move back to blue or black. Call the course directly though, they charged me about $20 more than the posted rate AND charged me $20 over adult price for my 14 year old. The course gives a 50% discount to juniors booked directly.
FABULOUS!
We haven't played this course in years because it's nornally a bit too pricey. I'm SO glad we were able to book our tee time thru Golfnow and save quite a bit on the cost. GREAT COURSE!!!
Best in desertp
This is my second trip to the desert and the Mountainview course at Desert Willow was the best-conditioned course by far. I played at Mission Hills (Gary Player) and the rough was burned out. From the moment my son and I arrived at Desert Willow, we received nothing but first class treatment, including the pro shop, starter, and the intern who cleaned our clubs. The fairways are wide, but trouble is always lurking. We played as a threesome and with a foursome in front of us still finished in 4:05. The greens are very quick and small, but are very true. Admittedly, my positive review is aided by how well I played. I would not recommend playing here for beginning golfers.
One of the best public courses
This course was the best conditioned of all wehave played over the past month in Palm Desert.moutain course which we played has lots of challenge. beware of the undulating greens if you areplaying for the first time.
Great Course
We booked early and got a great rate <$120 for Mountain View, then played Firecliff for a an $85 replay rate. I preferred the views of Firecliff, however they were both excellent courses.
Mountain view had some construction going on along a couple holes which was annoying, but not a deal breaker.
Course difficulty... pretty similar in terms of Greens, rolled fast and true. MV was more forgiving off the tee. Firecliff had a lot more bunkers off the tee so you really had to play smart. I suggest getting yardage books. Ask the starter, they are free.
Do not start your trip on these courses, warm-up somewhere else bc they requiring solid ball striking. An average hacker will lose a lot of balls.
Great experience otherwise...
This course is very hard, but unreal scenery!
Got a nice twilight deal @ 2:15pm finished on time
Great course
Beautiful course and playable. The greens have good speed to them and roll well. The GPS system is superior to many others that I've used. Always nice to play here.
Staff attitude
It rained when we were at 15 th hole and when we brought the cart to the bag drop area, the staff was only interested picking up the cart and did not help us to load onto our cart!,,, due to their attitude we did not leave them a tip either.
Amazing Palm desert Course
One of the most beautiful public access courses I have played. The course was in excellent condition with lush grass in all areas including rough. fairways, tees and greens were all in excellent condition. Enough water hazards and bunkers to make for a little challenge, but generous landing areas and large receptive greens. Great facility with friendly staff. A little pricey for non-residents, but if you watch golf now you can find a price you can live with. Pace of play for an afternoon round was fair, and moved along on most holes. The course is located in the middle of Palm Desert, but felt like you were miles away from the city on most holes. We played the mountain view course and took a peek at the Firecliff. Both are beautiful and worth trying to get a tee time at.
