San Juan Oaks Golf Club
About
Northern California's San Juan Oaks Golf Club is located halfway between the Silicon Valley and Monterey Peninsula off Highway 101 near the historic town of San Juan Bautista in Hollister. Opened in 1996, the 18-hole golf course is Fred Couples' first signature design in California and features five sets of tees for varying skill levels. It's also home to "Club Boom Boom," a popular junior teaching program. On top of the golf course, San Juan Oaks is known especially for its elaborate facilities including banquet rooms and patios for group outings, as well as driving range and practice greens.

What a gem
Heard of this course (positive review from a friend). I agree - the fairways are like carpet and in great shape. Though the greens are punched (the only reason the course conditions are rated "good" above), they should end up in great shape, too. Nice layout; the back nine wraps around a hill and the surrounding landscape is tranquil and beautiful.
Staff was great and the clubhouse was a real nice surprise. This course is a real gem. We'll be back.
Great layout
Overall great experience, just the bunkers are unmanicured. Just take free drops.
Brrrrrr cooooold morning....need coffee now
Had a 7 am tee time and it was coooold that day. My muscles were stiff and numb. The course was freshly cut and pin placements were fair. Greens and fairways were in great condition. A little wet which made the ball roll slower than normal. Started at the tenth. the back nine is easier which helped. The wind was non existent rare in this course. Thick bushes line most of the holes so keep your ball in the fairway. Swallow your pride and take an extra club because the ball is not rolling or bouncing much on a wet wintry day.
Very nice track
Layout on front nine a little uninspired, but the back had great elevation changes and challenging holes. Greens were in good shape, however a bit slow. Might just be seasonal condition. Overall good value and friendly staff.
Winter conditions
The course played like it was last year. Remember last year? My point is we haven't had any significant rain in over two months but this course plays extremely wet. The fairways have puddles. Please stop over watering this beautiful course.
A really beautiful course with great views everywhere you look. In great condition too.
San Juan Oaks is always a great place to play. We got behind a couple of slow groups but they let us through. Some holes are pretty challenging but the greens are fair. The sand traps could use some work but the overall layout is awesome.
Fun Course
Course is in very good condition, except the bunkers. Greens putted true. Fairways are friendly but the layout is challenging. Very good value. Staff is excellent.
Hidden gem
One of the most beautiful golf tracks in the Bay Area . People that have never played here will be in awe of the pure beauty out there .Tough holes but
You can shoot a good score if you take advantage of the easier holes.
Good track but...
Great layout by Fred Couples, be sure to play the proper tees, it's fair but tough (check the slope ratings). Caveats: bunkers are inconsistent and somewhat neglected. Like many courses these days you are not announced to the tee, and the starter is nowhere near the first tee (turns out the group in front of me went out 30 minutes before their reservation time); don't know why this has become so common at public courses. It can get windy on the back nine, the more difficult and strategic side, they might consider reversing the nines (plus the ninth would be a way more interesting finishing hole than the ho-hum 18th). That said it's a fun track, tees and greens are in excellent shape, very interesting layout, great practice facilities and bar, I've played it many times.
Challenging layout in the foothills of Hollister
Haven't played this course in years and managed to get a deal on Golfnow while in the area. It essentially a country club setting in the middle of nowhere. Facilities were very nice and the course was in great shape with a nice large practice facility and grass driving range. The course is routed into the foothills with some elevation changes. Holes required some thinking about where to place your shot. Fairway bunkers are right in my landing areas so club selection was key to avoiding the traps. Greens are well protected from bunkers as well. Only complaint was the lack of sand in the bunkers and the numerous ball marks on the green from inconsiderate players who won't fix their own marks or rake the traps. Take the time to enjoy the scenery and the views. We had no one in front of us and no one behind so it was like playing a private course. Finished in 3.5 hours for a 4 some.
January round
The course is in great shape. There were some slower groups in front of us so it ended up being a 5 hour round. Love the layout and the scenery. This course should consider putting some hot deals at times other then 7am to get more play. The standard rates are to expensive.
Great layout
Always a tough round out here but love the conditions and layout. Wild boars have made their present felt but not that noticeable. Looking forward to coming down again.
Great condition
Course fairways and rough green, healthy and cut perfectly for consistent lies. Greens were great shape very healthy cut perfect, enough moisture to hold fairway shoots within 10-7 feet from flag, moderate to average speed playable at all levels. Most all bunkers still lacking appropriate level of sand but marked as Ground Under Repair so can move ball out with no penalties. Overall condition and playability Great
