San Juan Oaks Golf Club
About
Northern California's San Juan Oaks Golf Club is located halfway between the Silicon Valley and Monterey Peninsula off Highway 101 near the historic town of San Juan Bautista in Hollister. Opened in 1996, the 18-hole golf course is Fred Couples' first signature design in California and features five sets of tees for varying skill levels. It's also home to "Club Boom Boom," a popular junior teaching program. On top of the golf course, San Juan Oaks is known especially for its elaborate facilities including banquet rooms and patios for group outings, as well as driving range and practice greens.

Great times and a challenge
The course is in amazing shape and the staff was great. Nothing else close to the Monterey peninsula gives you a par 3 of 160 yards you can't reach with a 3 iron! The afternoon wind is definitely whoops you on the front 9 and then you turn into a billy goat on the back 9. Big your "A" game and have a great time
Always a great option for the money if you don't mind driving a bit out of the way. Great overall shape other than hard, wet bunkers this time around. Peaceful and a relaxing round every time.
Great round of golf
Nice length and well kept. Friendly and close to the freeway.
Great track
This is a super course. Greens are excellent with jus enough undulation to make it challanging but sublet enough to keep it fun. Greens roll smooth at a medium / fast pace. Fairways are in green shape and overall the course is very well maintained. Except for the sand traps they are very poor at best. Mainly just hard wet dirt.
Layout is super fun with the front 9 being flat with some very storable holes. The back nine is up in the hills to provide some fun elevation changes and challenges.
The staff is super friendly and always accomondating Clubhouse offers a nice setting
San Juan Oaks is becoming our new favorite weekly course
Challenging Golf at San Juan Oaks
We always play a round or two when we visit the Watsonville area. Very difficult course when the wind picks up in the afternoon. Very good layout and lots of diversity in the holes. Only complaint is the poor conditions of the sand traps. Overall challenging but fair course.
Used to be gem but now in bad shape
I used to drive 1h to play here every month b/c it was a fun and good-pace track that's well worth the money. But the condition is getting worse. In particular the bunker has no or concrete-like sand, the green is bumpy (used to be smooth and rolling true), the tee box has bare damaged spots and uneven surface. The fairway condition is okay.
It's sad to see another one (of the few) good course in bay area going down.
Dr. Jeckell / Mr Hyde
This course definitely has a split personality. Front 9 is flat and offers several scoring opportunities. Don't confuse scoring with boring. A couple of lakes and creeks to navigate keeps you on your toes and adds some scenery to the layout.
After setting your PR for an opening 9 your feeling confident about your game.... Enter the back 9 stage right. Hold on as you begin Mr Toads wild ride. The back nine heads up the mountain and presents elevation changes on hikes 12-18.
Challenges or split fairways and gully crossings that offer some fun but challenging holes
Course conditions are great except the sand traps which are way below average. They are nothing but hard (and usually wet) dirt bunkers
Green's offer the perfect blend of smooth , medium-fast rolling putting surfaces with challenging but not over difficult undulations
Staff is super friendly. I've never seen a beverage cart out on the course but that's probably because I've only played early weekday mornings.
Overall it's a great track that has me coming back time and time again.
DO NOT PLAY til they fix bunkers - TRAGICALLY run down course
This course used to be a Bay Area stop that merited a round. Despite some odd holes on the back 9, it was a fun track.
Now, it is unplayable with bunkers lacking any sand, overgrown with weeds, and just clay. The cart paths are cracked and heaved.
It's sad to see a course in such disrepair and even worse when they continue to charge full price without even a mention of poor conditions.
Great looking course. A little too far away from home.
Had a great time at this course. It is too far away from where I live. It is worth the drive to play. Fairways and greens are in great condition. The course layout is very good. There are some great looking holes. If I would live in town I would play this course as much as possible.
One thing missing
Disc golf course is in excellent condition from tee-to-green, except for the bunkers. There was not one bunker with any sand in it, they're all hard-packed dirt. What's up with this course with no bunker maintenance?
Great Golf course for everyone
I would coming back and play again soon.
The golf course has great layout and some challenging.
The green was bit hard and bit speed.
It was great experience.
Great course, challenging layout
Great course and a pleasure to play. Everything but the sand traps was in great condition. Traps need to be worked and have some fresh sand. Staff is great!
Fun, creative course
A fun, creative course with the wind adding to the challenge. I was advised to stay out of the bunkers. I followed the advise.
There are several approaches to most holes. For a first time run it was interesting to think my way through each hole. It was a distraction on such a nice course that people could not take the time to repair their ball or club marks. Beautiful setting, wild turkeys, deer and cattle adding to the ambiance. I look forward to my next adventure here.
Thank You
Wow, great course, but tough
Had a great round, but the wind was a challenge. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Fun, course is excellent, but stay in the fareway or you can lose a ball in the cracks and goffer holes.
