San Juan Oaks Golf Club
About
Northern California's San Juan Oaks Golf Club is located halfway between the Silicon Valley and Monterey Peninsula off Highway 101 near the historic town of San Juan Bautista in Hollister. Opened in 1996, the 18-hole golf course is Fred Couples' first signature design in California and features five sets of tees for varying skill levels. It's also home to "Club Boom Boom," a popular junior teaching program. On top of the golf course, San Juan Oaks is known especially for its elaborate facilities including banquet rooms and patios for group outings, as well as driving range and practice greens.

San Juan Oaks GC
Great round. We had 1 tee time at 49 and 1 at 55 and they gave us both tee times for $49.00.
Excellent public course.
Beautiful setting, challenging layout, a walk through California hills, always a lot of wildlife. What's not to love about this course.
A course to be played become good golfer
The course very challenging but fair, great condition with beautiful sienic value. If you want become great golfer this course is a must to play, course has all shot playing aspects with elevated greens, tight fairways, open fairways, doglegs creeks water trees and at over 7000 yards from black tees course can be very challenging. Probably best course around Northbay Bay Area well worth the trip.
Good could be great
Course conditions are awesome. Except the bunkers. No sand in any of them. Some even had hard pan. This course would be a 10 but the bunkers brings down to 8.5.
Worth playing
This was an excellent course. Great contrast between the front nine and the back nine. The front nine was relatively flat with beautiful water hole and great view looking up the mountain. The back nine was more mountainous with a wonderful view overlooking the valley. Because of this contrast, shot making is a premium.
Disappinted
I play here twice a month. One of my favorites but today was ridiculous.
2 hours and 40 minutes for nine holes!
Made sure the staff knew but not sure anyone cares. I left after nine, this course may lose players over slow play rather than being afraid to have a marshall to move the pace of play. Will vote by not going back for the next month, then perhaps try again but only once more. Too many good courses in area to out up with this.
Super nice
Really nice course, well maintained. A bit pricy.
oaktrees all around you
beautiful surroundings, and in spite of dry season the course was in great condition. There are a few holes that seem to be challenging , not boring, and it demands of you strength and accuracy.
Excellent Course Conditions
Greens still had some aeration sand but that is part of keeping them in excellent condition. Fairways are the best in the general region. Sand traps are decent. Some tough holes but they're fair. Enjoyed the round and will try to play more often there.
Great day at SJO!
Great day at San Juan Oaks! Course is in great condition although greens could be a little bit faster. Great pace of play and really enjoyable course layout.
I had the whole course to myself
Excellent course to play in the mid-afternoon when it is hot and windy. Mostly had the course to myself except the turkeys and deer. I would not pay top dollars to play midday because of the wind but when you can get a hot deal price and you want to use every club in your bag, go for it.
No snack cart, no snack bar personel
Everything was great with the exception of their snack cart and snack bar personnel both called in sick??? No back contingencies??? Good thing the course was in great shape and the day conditions was perfect!
Perfect attitude for their starter (Mike) I believe he said he's been there 10 years, informative, sociable and efficient.
Great course. Good road trip stop
We played this course on a road trip to Monterey. Had a great time!
Sun & wind
Great day out at SJO GC sunny and windy greens were rolling fairways in great shape
fantastic golf course and pro shop staff
Got a great deal on the Labor day weekend and the weather could not be better. For me, it's a 50 mile drive to get to the golf course and clogged up 101 freeway had me take 2 hours to get there instead of the 50 minutes and I missed the tee time. The staff at the pro shop are the best, accommodated the change of tee times and were quite happy to do that, contrast that with the obnoxious employees at many of the bay area public golf courses. Had a great round of Golf, perfect conditions, beautiful golf courses, no waiting at all. Overall, a fantastic experience made even better by the pro shop guys. Will be back again, only wish this was closer to where I stay. Love this course.
Great Time
Had a great time as always. Course kicked my butt. Fantastic shape and can't wait to play again
wetness and bunkers
I found the overall condition of this course to be in great shape..greens are very smooth..no ball marks or divots in the green...2 issues I would like to see addressed are
1 bunkers
2 over watering
the bunkers are like hitting from the parking lot..sand is hard and packed down..extremely hard to get a club under the ball..
some fairways are so wet..even walking brings up puddles..the over watering contributes to the bunker problem, in my opinion..but I really like this course..staff appears to want you there playing..
Great course
This course is a real challenge for an average golfer. The course was in great condition but accurate shots are a must. The greens are very hard to one putt but two putts are not hard to do. I would love to play the course again now that I know the layout and think that I could do much better.
fair play
Beautiful course. We played early and the fairways were nice. Some of the best greens I've played on. The only draw back is the bunkers. They seem it be packed down and hard. Other than that, it was a good day.
