San Juan Oaks Golf Club
About
Northern California's San Juan Oaks Golf Club is located halfway between the Silicon Valley and Monterey Peninsula off Highway 101 near the historic town of San Juan Bautista in Hollister. Opened in 1996, the 18-hole golf course is Fred Couples' first signature design in California and features five sets of tees for varying skill levels. It's also home to "Club Boom Boom," a popular junior teaching program. On top of the golf course, San Juan Oaks is known especially for its elaborate facilities including banquet rooms and patios for group outings, as well as driving range and practice greens.

San Juan Oaks Golf Club Photo submitted by cjhsieh on 09/25/2012
Great course
This course is a real challenge for an average golfer. The course was in great condition but accurate shots are a must. The greens are very hard to one putt but two putts are not hard to do. I would love to play the course again now that I know the layout and think that I could do much better.
fair play
Beautiful course. We played early and the fairways were nice. Some of the best greens I've played on. The only draw back is the bunkers. They seem it be packed down and hard. Other than that, it was a good day.
Rocket
San Juan Oaks has always been a favorite of mine. I moved to Or 12 yrs ago and it's probably been 4 yrs since I last played it. The fairways and greens were in excellent shape however we quickly noticed the sand traps hadn't been touched in quite some time. I asked one of the
Workers w
Hat was up and he advised they didn't have the money to maintain them, very unfortunate. Still a great course although it takes a key element of the course out of play if you get my drift.
W
E played for $55 with a cart, a GTE
t value even with the traps in poor condition.
Be Well, Rocket
Fun times
Great course, great staff and pro shop. The cart guy even wiped down my clubs and provided us with wet towels to keep our clubs/ball clean. The course is a challenging one with lots of elevation changes. Greens were medium speed. Afternoon winds made the downwind holes easy and the into the wind holes play long. Had a great time and I only have one suggestion.
The bunkers need attention. Not sure if the sand needs replacing but they are completely crusted over. Bullet proof! Hard as a rock so much that we eventually pulled the ball from them.
Fix those traps guys and all the bases will be covered. I will be a regular here.

so nice you can't even tell there's a drought.
I do admit this course is pricey and out of many's price range,But I have to say it is in amazing condition.Course is absolutely beautiful and you would never know there is a drought there.Gal at the front desk is about as kind as you could hope to meet, guys on the course are completely courteous and ready to help with whatever you need.Carts are well kept up ,Tee boxes are perfect, fairways great condition and greens immaculate.Sure there are some divots from people who believe since they pay to play its not there responsibility to repair them,But these people are everywhere and ignorant to the fact that if you wish the course to be in great condition you need to do your part and repair any divot marks.A great Day with Great weather and perfect pace of play.Wish this was my home course but unfortunately it is a long drive from my house and only played sparingly.
Great course but awful bunkers
What is ti with bunkers in some of these high end courses. This is the second course i play in that has totally neglected their bunkers. The bunkers on this course were completely void of any sand.
Tough Course in 35 MPH Winds
I really enjoy San Juan Oaks. It was my first time to walk it. It is walkable but not an easy walk. There are a number of spots with long treks between holes. The course was in very good shape. The outside areas are getting a bit dried out but the greens are in great shape. I love that this course is out in the mountains. Just nature and golf.
Great track
Layout is fantastic, cart guys are super helpful and friendly, only negative was the bunkers but considering how hard it is to stay profitable in the golf industry at the moment I'll give them a hall pass! Greens were true and I'd recommend an early tee time to avoid afternoon winds.
Golf course in excellent shape!
The golf golf course was in Excellent shape! This a difficult but fair Golf course, with narrow strategic fairways, pure rolling greens that bite!
Challenging golf
I liked the course and the conditions except for one thing...the bunkers, and there are many of them, were in really bad shape. Some had weeds growing in them; NONE had any sand. It was like trying to blast off hard pan.
San Juan oaks
One of my favorite golf courses in the Bay Area. I wish it was closer me I would play it more often. I played on a Wednesday and course was not busy at all. The fairways and greens were in great condition. My advice is try to play as early as possible. Around noon the wind starts up and course plays so much harder, especially on the back 9.
I love this course
I travel 1 hour just to practice on the grass practice range. There is plenty of room. The course is always in good condition. Don't tell anybody.
Friendliest Staff in the Business
Been Meaning to get out to San Juan Oaks for a while now. I'm going to start with the staff. 5 stars is an understatement. Absolutely the best staff in the business hands down. Starting with the gentleman at the pro shop to the starter. They were super accommodating in that we wanted to eat lunch before our tee time. Pro shop told us to go eat and when we were done to head out (before or after our scheduled tee time). Granite it was a Monday during mid day so they were fairly slow. But I've been at a course where they made me wait for my scheduled tee time even though no one teed off for 30 minutes. Guy at the starter's shack was super helpful and pleasant with course guidance.
Track is solid. Front 9 is flat with lakes and creak crossings for challenges. Back 9 offers plenty of elevation changes. Great scenery all around.
Greens roll true and smooth. Greens are a perfect blend of presenting a nice challenge but not overly difficult.
Fairways were is great shape. Only a couple of the tee boxes on Par 3's were below standard. All others were in good shape or better.
Still work to do
On an absolutely clear and beautiful day, mid-60s and low wind, the course played beautifully. I knew aeration was done, but the sanding was great and the holes are of the smaller variety. Rolled pretty true. I did manage to get in a few bunkers -- they need sand. All mud, cement. Weeds growing around the edges of many of the traps, or at least the 3-4 I was in. Disappointing in the traps, the rest fantastic.
Great place!!
What a gem. Course is well designed, and in great shape. I will be back.
tall grass
must hit on fairways, otherwise you never find your balls,
Surprisingly Dry
With all the rain we've had lately it wasn't all that bad.
Rough was high and bunkers need a lot of work but I contribute that to the weather.
Greens were nice...fast.
Expect wind so club up.
Staff friendly.
Food always good.
Great Track.
Great conditions, great layout, great views.
Loved this course.
A steal for $55...
