San Juan Oaks Golf Club
About
Northern California's San Juan Oaks Golf Club is located halfway between the Silicon Valley and Monterey Peninsula off Highway 101 near the historic town of San Juan Bautista in Hollister. Opened in 1996, the 18-hole golf course is Fred Couples' first signature design in California and features five sets of tees for varying skill levels. It's also home to "Club Boom Boom," a popular junior teaching program. On top of the golf course, San Juan Oaks is known especially for its elaborate facilities including banquet rooms and patios for group outings, as well as driving range and practice greens.

Great Day
We were a little leary of heading out due to the recent rains but an amazing hot deal rate popped up and well, away we went. Course was in GREAT shape!!!! Nobody in front of us, sun was shining, played a good round. A lot of fun!!!
great layout
I've been playing this course since it opened 15 years ago and have become disappointed with the condition of the bunkers. They have become nothing more than dirt holes. It would help if they fixed the pig rooting. I know they are wild pigs in the area but they seem to be several areas that are consistently torn up.
Nice Course & Great Views
First time playing this course. Had heard about it so wanted to play it. Got a great deal on golfnow so took it. Weather was a little cool for the first couple of holes as we started at 12:30. Warmed up and was great the rest of the way, hardly anyone out there. Started the back nine and parred the first three holes, was pumped. Great views and a great course. Fairways, greens and sand traps all in great shape. I played the whites which are close to 6400 yards, perfect for a senior like me. This course is not for a beginner, too many problems for you. Loved the course and will be back. If I lived closer I would play it more often but I don't. I definitely recommend this course. For the record I shot an 86, 45 on the back and a 41 on the front. On the back gave up at least 4 strokes on two holes, my fault. Not bad for the first time though.
Fun Course
Great golf fun and challenge. Beautiful surroundings!!!
Little cold Late Oct. thru Feb. and windy at times so bring a wind blocker jacket.
My favorite course right now
This course is halfway between my parents house and mine (Carmel and SF respectively). It is a great stop off and haven't really had a bad round here yet (Think Ive played about a half dozen times now). It is pretty hard to walk the back nine. Windy in the afternoons in the summer. Love this course though! The difference between the two 9s is striking. Yesterday I shot a 1 under on the front nine and a 53 on the back! Partially my fault (and we started on the back).
Beautifil and Challenging Course
Fun, beautiful and challenging course. Expect winds so keep your shots low into the winds.
Nice Course
Very windy and cold but the course was in great shape. Pace of play was excellent for a Sunday. This is a challenging course and but lots of fun to play. Enjoy driving out there well worth the drive from Monterey.
Boudie
Amazing course and super fun. Value was off the charts. Save your money and play here.
a true "grown up" course
Expect a true challenge, especially for the old duffers. There are many difficult, but not unfair holes. Hare played many times but we all know we're going to get our butts kicked by this course...still true. When we break 100 we're happy, and that's from the gold tees.
It is also in a beautiful setting and on M-Th at this time of year, you will not be bothered by slow play.
Tuesday afternoon
Had a 12:40 tee time as a 2 sum and couldn't finish before dark. No ranger on the course or any staff for that matter. Had a 5 sum playing in front of us with 5 different carts and a 3 sum in front of them playing with 3 different carts. Terribly run golf course but nice facility. Couldn't imagine playing here on the weekends.
Most excellent
Change nothing the day was perfect.. On time, no waiting, the course was in top condition....
Daryl
Course was in great shape. Greens were nice. People were really nice all-around great course. Will definitely come back .
Great challenging course
Great challenging course if you want to test yourself...wide open fairways with bunkers and a little water. Views are of surrounding mountains, deer, wild turkeys...The greens are undulating and fast and true, exactly what will expose all of our weaknesses...try this course once and you will be back.
Course comments
The greens were fast, true and in excellent shape as were the fairways. The only reason for stars is that the bunkers need sand!
Nice quiet setting
Always enjoy this course. Challenging particularly #15. Fairways are green which is unusual in rain deprived California. Greens in decent shape. Course isn't as beat up compared to typical muni courses. I like the quiet nature friendly atmosphere; abundant wild life. Staff friendly and casual. Breakfast bacon the best. Recommend golf cart especially in hot summer months. Cost reasonable. Definitely worth the drive.
The challenge you were looking for is here!
This course will challenge the intermediate golfer and probably make a beginner quit the game all together. This course has fast undulating greens, thick rough and difficult bunkers so be prepared to bring your 'A' game. Afternoons can get brutal with wind gusts blowing up to 25 mph. Stay on the short grass and make sure to add 10 yards when hitting against the wind or an elevated green. Some greens have false fronts so be aware. Keep pace with the group in front so you don,t get harassed by the group behind you. If you want an easier course then Ridgemark GC is just minutes away.
Great Round in the calmness of SJO
The course is in great shape. The staff was very polite and other than a double bogey on 4, the day was close to perfect. Playing on a course that is not lined with houses and barking dogs is something to cherish.
I hope to take advantage of the great rates more often.
Nice course
Good course. Just needs sand in the bunker. Great price on golf now. Friendly stsff
A round with my wife
Enjoyed a fast pace of play and excellent conditions.
this course is always in good shape!
But this place always kicks my butt, especially the back nine---still a great place to play!
