San Juan Oaks Golf Club
About
Northern California's San Juan Oaks Golf Club is located halfway between the Silicon Valley and Monterey Peninsula off Highway 101 near the historic town of San Juan Bautista in Hollister. Opened in 1996, the 18-hole golf course is Fred Couples' first signature design in California and features five sets of tees for varying skill levels. It's also home to "Club Boom Boom," a popular junior teaching program. On top of the golf course, San Juan Oaks is known especially for its elaborate facilities including banquet rooms and patios for group outings, as well as driving range and practice greens.

Great Couse!
My wife and I love to play here, it's always very nice. The only criticism I have is that the sand traps are as hard as the cart paths- traps need more sand.
Great condition
The course is always in great condition. The fairways are fluffy and the greens are soft and smooth. The front nine is relatively easy but the back nine is more challenging.
Great course
Love this course. In great condition. Only problem was a threesome in front of us that were slow. We had a foursome and were waiting on them almost every hole. Played before on a Friday morning and got in a 3 hour round. This time it was 4.5 hour round.
Had a nice day/game
A nice course. Greens are reasonably smooth and fast and course in good shape. Pace was good.
SJO great conditions
The course is in great condition.
Fairways and greens are in great shape.
Bunkers were watered down and needed raking.
Overall, it is in great shape.
We played in 4 hours on a very light day.
One of our favorites
Probably our favorite course to play. Course is in great shape right now, besides the bunkers, but there aren't many so it isn't too big of a deal. My buddy and I played in about 3:00 which was nice. Extremely difficult course from the tips, especially when the wind is howling, which it usually is, but at the same time it's very fair if you hit good shots. Back nine is a wild ride. I'd play here every day if I could.
Great course great value
Fantastic well kept course , apart from the sand bunkers entire course is in great condition. Back 9 is tough and all holes have great design and character
Nice round at San Juan Oaks
Booked a round thru Golf Now Hot Deals for an afternoon round. The course was in really nice shape (no shortage of water here). The staff is really outgoing & professional. There were several groups in front of my tee time, but they let me start on the back nine. Really made for a quick (a little over 3 hrs.) & enjoyable practice round.
Thanks!
Great course but windy
Course is in superb condition! Staff was super friendly and attentive and even gave us the lowdown on what was to come, including a forecast of the wind coming in, how many clubs to play up, etc. It helped tremendously. Would be fun to play without wind but can't do anything about that. We had a 2some and we were paired with a local who gave us tips too. We completed the round in 4 hours, a great day!
Great course but Windy!!!
San Juan Oaks is a great golf course. It is challenging but fair. The greens are in great shape but the bunkers could use more sand. The "invisible hazard" comes into play in the afternoon and can add a club or 2 to your club selection. Pace of play on the weekdays is good (nobody in front or behind us yesterday) but on weekends can be really poor. I once left on the 17th tee after 6 hours.
Two totally different 9s. Excellent course and facilities.
San Juan Oaks is a fantastic course. California is in a major drought however the course is in great condition. Greens were rolling very quick and no browning. The day I went, the wind was blowing from the north about 10-15 mph which is the prevailing wind.
The course has totally different front and back 9s. The front 9 is fairly flat and wide open while the back 9 is very hilly and landing areas are much smaller. The front 9 is much easier than the back 9. There are few holes that are extremely difficult on the back 9.
The facilities are very good. Gigantic grass range is awesome and the practice putting green is one of the best around. They also have a chipping/pitching green with a sand bunker. Great place to practice. The clubhouse is very nice and big. Pro shop is well stocked with tons of stuff.
One of the best courses in the area, but far from the SF Bay Area.
perfection
mr couples earned his merit badge for design. his course exceeds the close by designs of johnny miller and jack nicklaus though all three are among the very best nor cal has to offer. there is no better value for the money
Thank you Fred
Course in great shape. Great staff, shop and restaurant. Thanks again
Enjoyable afternoon
Nice layout in a scenic inland location. With a slope of 130 from the white tees the course was very challenging. The back side much more than the front. The greens were poana and in excellent condition. There is water which does come into play on many holes. The only negative was a slow 4 some ahead of us who did let us play through.
Good value
Course was well kept. We got stuck behind a slow twosome but still got done in under 4 hours.
Good Challenging Course
I played here once many years ago. The course is in good shape though the buildings are feeling a little dated. Pace of play was quite good. Two of us played in 4 hours. Got quite windy in the afternoon on the middle holes. I would suggest they include range balls with the greens fees like Wente does. Bunkers were too hard. Couldn't get club into sand to splash ball out. Overall, good experience.
Traps
I love this course and the layout is awesome but I'm not impressed by the green side bunkers and they were pretty much a joke. That's not sand and the SandPro should go out AFTER the greens have been watered in the AM. Concrete traps
Fun course
Course was in good shape. First time playing course. Pretty challenging. Rough grass was difficult to hit ball correctly, not that this happens that often. The folks in the clubhouse were very nice and accommodating. Will play again and this time keep my head down.
Great course
San Juan Oaks is an incredible golf course. clearly the course is in great shape and the greens were awesome. what is truly remarkable about this course are the various holes and configurations which make the golfer think more about placement than simply bombing away. I would recommend this course to all golfers to go out and play
