San Juan Oaks Golf Club
About
Northern California's San Juan Oaks Golf Club is located halfway between the Silicon Valley and Monterey Peninsula off Highway 101 near the historic town of San Juan Bautista in Hollister. Opened in 1996, the 18-hole golf course is Fred Couples' first signature design in California and features five sets of tees for varying skill levels. It's also home to "Club Boom Boom," a popular junior teaching program. On top of the golf course, San Juan Oaks is known especially for its elaborate facilities including banquet rooms and patios for group outings, as well as driving range and practice greens.

Great Course
would play it anytime great views nice condition...gets windy in the afternoon!
Challenges
Overall San Juan is a fair course, with plenty of challenges! The one thing that stuck out the most for me was the pace of the greens. I was expecting a faster pace and a true line. When I got to them they we're spongy. Putting down hill was slower than you would expect. I guess I just need a few more rounds out there!?!
I will be back very soon!
Afternoon of peace and quiet
Great track replete with memorable and varied holes. It was quiet and I had the place to myself. Conditions were excellent despite California drought... Edges of course are rough and cart paths in places are cracking with the inevitable movement of the earth around the hilly landscape. Traps were in especially poor condition with more of a packed clay then sand... Definitely a great value and fun track. Highly recommend!
A good test for all levels
I've been playing here for about ten years, 5 to 6 rounds a year. This course has many challenges that can test most levels of experience. The greens and fairways are always in great shape. The bunkers could use a little work, but that's about the only criticism I could offer. The last 5 holes are a true test that challenge even low handicappers.
Excellent pace of playing.
Good course condition and a fun paying this course.
Easy to lose your ball, so take extra.
Different as other say about bunker, it wasn't a problem at all.
The pace of play was fantastic, taking for 3 and half hours.
I will go again later even though it is pretty far from my home.
G tucker
The course did not appear well cared for A lot of tall errant weeds in bunkers which had no sand in them. Terrible bunkers. Greens were decent as well as fairways. Tee boxes were not all flat. I only ask for 18 flat lies a round! Would not play again.
This course is very well maintained and staffed
This course makes you feel like you are playing on a private course rather than a public club.
The clubhouse, restaurant, amenities are all excellent.
They provide tees and towels on the golf carts.
I hadn't played this course for several years and didn't remember the course layout. It is definitely a challenging course. It is a risk/reward decision that you need to have to make on all of the par4s and 5s. Wether to try a long approach shot or layup.
The greens are extremely fast and seem as if there isn't one level area on any of them.
You definitely have to stay below the hole on all your approach shots.
We played on a windy day that made the course a play little more difficult. But you need to practice your putting before going out on the course.
I hope to play it again in the near future and see if I can do a little better.
I would not recommend this course to a beginner.
This course was in excellent shape.
The course was in excellent shape, fairways lush, greens in great shape. Would reccommend this to anyone. Great staff…...
Great Value - avoid bunkers
It is clear that the maintenance budget is hurting as the bunkers have been neglected. Listening to people whine about the conditions of bunkers has always struck me has funny for two reasons. First, if you whine about any bunker condition you aren't that good of a bunker player anyway. Second, they are hazards...stay out of them - they are hazardous.
My friend and I walked the course in 3 and a half hours with an 8:00 Wednesday tee time.
A Fair Challenge
Fairways and Greens and Tee boxes in nice shape. green despite the water issues in CA as long as you stay on the short grass you can manage this course. anything off the beaten path you will lose your ball.
Gem in the San Juan Bautista hills
This place is a gem. Now if they would just rake the bunkers!! Really fun golf track, can be anything from fun to a really really challenging test of golf. If the wind is up and your playing from the back tees bring your A game. Definitely worth a visit.
Fun course that need a little TLC
I like this course.
Good: Front is flat and back has some large elevation changes. Pretty surroundings with no houses lining course. Challenging but fair. Greens have a lot of undulations. 9,18 are great golf holes. 17 is fun.
Bad: Bunkers, mentioned a lot. Tee boxes are spongy. Play there you'll know what I mean. Fairways are in good shape but rough can be weedy. There are a couple of gimmicky holes.
Overall good course that could be great with some TLC.
Great track by Couples
Great course, fun Couples design, undulating fairways, dbl doglegs, worst bunkers I've seen in months.
Great Layout, fairway traps like concrete
San Juan Oaks is a very nice course. Unfortunately the maintenance of the course is not so nice. The fairway traps have not been touched in ages, evidence are concrete hard bottoms with weeds growing that are at least a couple weeks old. The greens on the back nine had recovered somewhat, however the greens on the front were full of holes, slow and bumpy from recent aeration. This is a great layout, but somebody needs to remind the staff that the maintenance of the traps makes it a real golf course.
Great course, can't wait till next time
Awesome layout. Back 9 definitely trickier. Grena has been aerated so we're not in top condition. Still a great track though.
Great day
Wow. This is a tough course. The greens had been aerated but they were still in great condition. overall one of the better courses within an hour of San Jose. Definitely returning again
one of my favorites
I have played here several times and have never found the course in poor condition.
Excellent course condition
Challenging greens. Back nine is lovely. I always have a great experience at San Juan Oaks.
