San Juan Oaks Golf Club
About
Northern California's San Juan Oaks Golf Club is located halfway between the Silicon Valley and Monterey Peninsula off Highway 101 near the historic town of San Juan Bautista in Hollister. Opened in 1996, the 18-hole golf course is Fred Couples' first signature design in California and features five sets of tees for varying skill levels. It's also home to "Club Boom Boom," a popular junior teaching program. On top of the golf course, San Juan Oaks is known especially for its elaborate facilities including banquet rooms and patios for group outings, as well as driving range and practice greens.

San Juan Oaks Golf Club Photo submitted by cjhsieh on 09/25/2012
Frozen and stuck in rough
Early frost pushed back tee times, but course used a shotgun start to get everyone off at a reasonable time. The rough was very tall which made it extremely difficult to find any balls if they were hit in there. My first time playing this course, and even though I had access to a handheld GPS device, it was difficult not knowing the ins and outs of this course. Overall, a tough course for the first timer. Also, the bunkers were like hitting off cement.
rSan Juan Oaks
The hills are alive vith green. The weather was perfect and the course was a bit water logged. It was a really nice experience.
A Gem
Even after a lot of rain the course was really playable. Rough was longer since mowing was impossible. The course conditions and general layout remain top drawer and the staff are friendly a helpful.I feel this one of the best courses in the area
awesome course
San Juan Oaks is a great course. Challenging but not overly challenging, very scenic and peaceful tucked away against the hillside. Always maintained beautifully. Great practice area too.
Amazing course
Just beautiful, first time here and I knew it was going to be tuff to hold on to the balls just by looking at the fly over at their website, the fairways were bigger than i thought but there is some major obstacles, ruff and sand traps. What I really remember is the enormity of this place you hit the ball hard and it still looks like a chip shot compared to the length of the fairways. I had a great time 18 holes is a good work out, I lost 10 balls some that should have been there just weren't , probably hiding the grass was a little tall in some places my message is bring a lot of balls my buddy lost 30 ha ha. Oh and the wild life is spectacular.
WISH IT WAS CLOSER!
I hadn't played here in two years and it was suddenly everything I remembered. Great layout, super greens and a nice meandering track through the wilderness. Conditions were very good after the recent rain we've had. I just wish this course was closer to my home in the east bay! (Only thing keeping this from 5 stars were the inconsistent bunker conditions.)
Great place to play.
The course was in great condition. The greens were challenging but fair. It has been some time since I played there but I will be back.
Best
I would say that San Juan Oaks is truly a great course.
The course was in great shape the staff was very friendly.
I had one of the best round of my life.
I am not sure if I want to recommend this course to other people because it is such a jewel.
Lol
But I will recommend it had a great day golfing.
Great day of golf.
Honestly, I played terrible. The course far exceeded my expectations. The driving range is very good as are the chipping & putting greens to warm up. The staff was very friendly all the way around. The course was challenging but fair. The bad score wasn't reflective of the course but my inability to hit it straight off the tee. I enjoyed the elevated tee's where you get some nice views of the surrounding area. It was well worth the 2 hour drive for me.
Country Club Feeling
My golfing buddy Bill and I had a 7:30am tee time. We hit a small bucket of balls on the range and started on the back nine at our assigned time. It was like we were playing at our own Country Club. Nobody behind us, no rush, and playing at our own relaxed pace. We finished in about 3-1/2 hours and were off to our own day's work before Noon. It's how it should always be, playing at our own pace and finishing our round in under 4 hours!

A course with great views and fun challenges
Hard to beat the Vistas of the mountains and farmland. Greens in fine shape, as well as the fairways. Only eyesore is some damage done by wild boars on the fairways, but it wasn't too extensive. It is walkable, but some elevation changes and distance between holes make it a good workout.
Good test
Great golf course. The only problem was the pace of play. Had to wait 5 to 8 minutes on every shot on the back nine.
complain..
Last saturday was so so hot. But water tank was
empty.
SJO has it all.
Excellent breakfast available before morning tee-off.
The course was in outstanding conditions, beautiful fairways and well maintained greens. Staff in the pro shop, restaurant, and bar were all friendly and efficient.
The highlight was after having an adult beverage post game I left my keys on the bar and the bartender dashed into the parking lot to give them back!
Fun times
This course was a little more challenging with the wind that came up, we played in the afternoon after playing 18 on another course in the AM Great time with the boys
Fred Couples Course
San Juan Oaks is a great track on the out skirts of Holster CA. Great views and a track that you will want to play twice! Really nice practice warm up area with a few challenging holes especially with the wind.
Great value
Got a 15:00 tee time for $19.00. A little windy, but playing a course of this caliber in 3.25 hours on a weekend is unheard of..excellent course.
Bunkers should have sand
The course was in good condition, a little too wet but so you don't get the rolls on the fairways, but the bunkers need drastic attention. Not much sand in them, but alot of grass and weeds instead.
Pace of play was slow because of 2 groups ahead of ours walked the course, so we were waiting on all the tee boxes and so on. No marshall to enforce faster players through. What should have been a 3.5 hour round turned into 5+.
nice course
I agree with the latest reviews - very windy late in the afternoon until about 7 p.m.. Makes for tough conditions where you must add 2 clubs into the wind and subtract 2 with. Bunkers are just dirt.. Other courses are similar, but there is at least some sand to work with. Very difficult closing holes on the back nine where you must keep your composure in order not to make a big number. Good test of golf.
