San Juan Oaks Golf Club
About
Northern California's San Juan Oaks Golf Club is located halfway between the Silicon Valley and Monterey Peninsula off Highway 101 near the historic town of San Juan Bautista in Hollister. Opened in 1996, the 18-hole golf course is Fred Couples' first signature design in California and features five sets of tees for varying skill levels. It's also home to "Club Boom Boom," a popular junior teaching program. On top of the golf course, San Juan Oaks is known especially for its elaborate facilities including banquet rooms and patios for group outings, as well as driving range and practice greens.

Hill and valley nice course
very challenging for my age and ability but the scenery and wild life make it all worth while will play it as often as I can afford .
beautiful
I recommend everyone to visit and play this course, a very beautiful one.
if you don't try yet, why not go. But once is enough
I think this golf course is kind of challenging.
and if you don't try yet, once is enough to enjoy.
total condition is fair but quite windy because of its geometery. if you play here, please take account of wind condition when you choose a club.
Wind was a major problem
San Juan Oaks is a phenomenally well kept and managed course.
I played in mid-June and the conditions were perfect.
We played last Sunday (8/24) and faced the worst (2-3 club) winds I have ever experienced in my golfing career.
I am a 9.2 Index, but on some holes, I was having a hard time getting to green without a struggle.
If the wind is this bad, the course is unplayable. Greens were spongey and slow.
I am quite disappointed as I drove from the Peninsula on a Sunday where I could have played any other course on a day like today.
No sand!
No sand in bunkers!!! Did not make round fun! Other than that a very good course.
San Juan Oaks
Despite drought conditions, fairways and greens were in great shape, however bunkers had very little sand in it. Extremely windy in the afternoon. On the plus side, there were very few golfers on the course.
One of the best
Beautiful layout and very serene!
Play was fast in the early hours.
Very friendly supportive staff
The course was a real challenge
This course is a real challenge on a perfect whether day. The wind was really blowing, this made for a real challenge. Water shortage, but the course is still in good shape.
The course was in good to great condition
The course was in great condition and is challenge to play. I was playing in late afternoon and the pace as good. Just beware the traffic to get there I the afternoon.since the commute traffic back home starts around 3 pm.
Beautiful, Well Kept Course !
I had been wanting to play this course for some time due to reviews I had read and it did not disappoint! Fairways, greens and teeboxes all in great shape and well maintained. The front and back 9 are quite different with the back being considerably more challenging. Can't wait to go back although it is a bit of a haul from the bay area to make it down there. Pace was brisk but relaxed. Teed of at 3p on a Saturday.
Great course, bad customer service
I have played here a handful of times, and love the course itself. Challenging, but very enjoyable and pretty fair. Where I have issue is the customer service, specifically the starters. They won't let singles have their own cart even when there are plenty to go around. I was playing as a single and asked to play alone since the course was empty and I could move at my own pace. They told me I had to wait for the threesome I was paired with. I explained it made no sense for me to wait since there were no people on the course and things would move more smoothly if I went out alone. They refused and ended up making me wait on the first tee box until 5 minutes AFTER our scheduled tee time for the group to show up. This is the third time they have refused to let me go out as a single. I'm trying to improve pace of play, where is the common sense??? For the amount of money they charge for a tee time, their service should be better.
Still Green Golf in This Course
many golf course in California have "brown golf" policy due to the drought this year you van still enjoy "green golfing" at SanJuan Oaks, green fairway, not too wet, not too dry. The course has a very good design, front 9 on the more flat plain with lots of waters, back 9 on the rolling hill with some elevation change. back 9 has more wind effects so strategy on tee shots is important, otherwise, balls can be easily lost. there are some challenge holes on both front and back 9. the overall experience is enjoyable.
SAN JUAN OAKS
great course layout that's tough but not ridiculous, course in great condition, cart worked to perfection, i started late at 5:10 so the only issue that carts had to be in by 8:15 so i had to rush a little on the back nine. two thumbs up, plus a great practice area you can use prior to your round.
Lovely Gem
SJ Oaks suffers from its proximity to the magnificient course to which central California grants access. Were this course located in most other parts of the country, people would rave about how successfully Fred Couples has integrated two completely different nines--one flat and reminiscent of a links layout with target-like greens, the other more like a mountain course with towering tee shots, undulating fairways, and challenging lies. The facilities are top-notch, and the staff are friendly and always professional. Treat some friends to a day on the links; they'll think you suddenly got smarter.
The course is layed out well
The traps need some TLC. For example the grass along the outline edges needs to be cut back.
Fair and honest Layout
San Juan Oaks is a a semi modern design. The greens are actually less undulating and slower than new courses which allows one to build confidence. The bunkers are reasonable. The conditions were very good. Some of the holes have split fairways creating options and an attractive change from the usual "highway" look. All in all a very good value. The winds come up late in the afternoon and can be a big factor.
cant beat the golfnow hot deal
Got a great price on the golfnow hot deal. Course is very nice and challenging. Can get very windy out there though
RB's San Juan Oaks Review
I thought the course was great for being in a drought it didn't appear dry. More that a few times we thought the greens may have been a little slow. The wind in the afternoon make it a challenge. The service was great and the facilities were too.
Nine vs Nine
This can be a fun course to play. The front nine is not that hard but if the wind is up, the back nine will give you problems. Staff and facilities are very good.
My Favorite Place to Golf
This course is so beautiful and the staff is so helpful and friendly. I also enjoy watching the wildlife. First time out in over two years and played like it, but still had a great time. Love this course.
