San Juan Oaks Golf Club
About
Northern California's San Juan Oaks Golf Club is located halfway between the Silicon Valley and Monterey Peninsula off Highway 101 near the historic town of San Juan Bautista in Hollister. Opened in 1996, the 18-hole golf course is Fred Couples' first signature design in California and features five sets of tees for varying skill levels. It's also home to "Club Boom Boom," a popular junior teaching program. On top of the golf course, San Juan Oaks is known especially for its elaborate facilities including banquet rooms and patios for group outings, as well as driving range and practice greens.

San Juan Oaks Golf Club Photo submitted by cjhsieh on 09/25/2012
The course is challenging but fun.
We were informed of the aeration and sanding at check-in, but there was no discount offered.
Also, sand traps could use some more sand.
San Juan Oaks is a special golf course.
Beautiful setting in the hills around the area. No homes lining this course in a natural and challenging setting. you will want to come back here for a special round of golf.
Great course, long drive
Coming from the bay it's over an hour drive, but the course makes up for it. Great conditions, fun design, and no 5+ hour round like SF bay courses.
Hidden Gem in Hollister
True greens and well maintained fairways, with some fairly thick rough, this was a fun yet challenging course to play. A grass range and extra practice facilities makes it a well rounded facility. When Monterey is too cool, this is a great option.
Needs some improvements
I played San Juan Oaks about 10 years ago and it was fantastic.
Played last weekend and the course has gone downhill.
Bunkers were almost 100% like concrete and about half of them had standing water in them even though it has not rained in 2 months. Greens are very inconsistent and some of the fairways also had some obvious drainage issues. Glad i did not pay full price for this experience...
Great Mid-week Round
Although I really didn't score as well as I could have, The course and experience was superb!
When I arrived, I was greeted by every staff member I saw.
The restrooms were not only clean, but sparkling!
While it was a tad breezy, the weather was warm(about 78) and very comfortable.
There is a new fleet of golf carts that drive very solidly. The course was in great shape, and it almost looked as if it were prepared to hold a professional tournament! The greens rolled true and mid-fast. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and plan to play there again in the near future.
Nice course, well worth the Golf Now price
Nice course, well worth the Golf Now price....way too expensive($100) at regular rate.
Went there for the Garry Lester golf lesson. Best lesson I have ever had, the techniques and instructions were perfect. Highly recommend Gary as a teacher!!! 3 Hours, $60.00, outstanding results!!!
Windy late afternoons
Chanllenging course with late afternoon winds.
Great layout...tough club selections due to terrain and wind
Great condition.7/4/2013
Played 27 holes 4th of July. Speed golf, no waiting. Course in excellent conditions. Greens were not speed fast as usual. Brutal wind conditions. Had to aim over sand traps and trust the wind would work ball back over the green. If I had one complaint, it would be that there was basically NO sand in any of the fairway or greenside bunkers which made fairway bunkers very easy to get out of but greenside bunkers much more difficult. Unfortunately I happen to be in both so speak from experience :)
Great layout. Well maintained.
We had a great time at the the San Juan Oaks. The course was in excellent condition considering all the hot weather we've been having. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The pace of play was good as we got our round in well under 4 hrs. My only negative criticism would be that the greens were slow and a little spongy. This is understandable considering the heat we;ve been having. Bottom line, I would recommend San Juan Oaks to anyone who would like to play an enjoyable round of golf.
One of my Favorite Courses
The course is in very good condition except the green is a little slow comparing to average golf courses. The starter was very pleasant and friendly.
awesome course and in great shape
friends and I played this course which was in great condition. Fairways beautiful and greens were in great shape. One of my favorite courses to play.
Great challenge
Really nice golf course. SJO is in perfect condition. It was a bit windy, but that also made the course a wonderful challenge.
Had to Return Golf Cart by 7:30 PM Don't Buy 2:50 PM Hot Deal
The Pro Shop did not tell us at they are going to require that we return the golf carts by 7:30 pm. We started at 2:50 pm and completed nine holes at 5:25 pm. We were at hole 13 when some attendants driving a golf cart told us they needed the cart by 7:30 pm. We were all disappointed by they way delivered this information and we end up just completing 16 holes.
Other than that we really enjoy the golf course, we wish we could have completed the course. GolfNow members please beware!
Great use of surrounding terrain, especially on back 9.
Course in immaculate shape. Lots of visually challenging shots with some demanding shots.
most holes look the same no got to have picture photos but a nice course
tough rough so you had to be in the fairways which were narrow in many cases but a very enjoyable day of sun and little wind but pace of play, almost 5 hours, detracted from otherwise great golf experience
Good course in a beautiful setting.
Course was in very good condition with a very friendly staff. It's a challenging course and the afternoon wind added to that. I'd like to try again a little earlier in the day before the wind picks up.
Very nice place
Beautiful course ample practice facility cool ever changing surroundings. Only complaints are the same as everyone else's. traps were hard as a rock, 2 groups playing slow and by slow I mean we started when they were on hole 6 caught them by 14 and ended up leaving by 17. We should've brought sunscreen and lots of cold drinks and allergy pills 40 mph wind for all but 1-2 holes. These are the nicest greens fairways tee boxes and rough that I have ever played in. The course condition makes up for some of the difficulty making the round enjoyable.
Best scenery and landscape
Love this course...saw a Golden Eagle !
Fast play, no delay !
It was worth the drive from San Jose...
Course was kept in perfect shape. No houses or roads nearby making the course so quiet and serene. Friendly staffs. It's fifty minutes drive from San Jose downtown, but I finished the round in 3.5 hours, so overall time spent is same as playing in the city.
