About
Northern California's San Juan Oaks Golf Club is located halfway between the Silicon Valley and Monterey Peninsula off Highway 101 near the historic town of San Juan Bautista in Hollister. Opened in 1996, the 18-hole golf course is Fred Couples' first signature design in California and features five sets of tees for varying skill levels. It's also home to "Club Boom Boom," a popular junior teaching program. On top of the golf course, San Juan Oaks is known especially for its elaborate facilities including banquet rooms and patios for group outings, as well as driving range and practice greens.

Top 5 pay-to-play course in Bay Area
Love this freddy couples course! great layout, and super challenging yet fun.
Course was in great shape.
For $19 with a cart was definitely a hot deal!!! Great place to play and work on your long game. Greens were perfect, balls held on approach shots. Well watered and maintained.
Would not play again. Customer service is terrible.

Nice facility
Course was very windy on the day we golfed. Fairways and greens in good shape. As alway facility is first rate from restaurant to driving range.

This place gets it
There's nothing SJO gets wrong. Course is beautiful, as are the facilities. Staff is great and they seem to enjoy working there. Even the bar grub is pretty good--cute bartender never hurts, either. Only negative is this place is a bit of a drive from anywhere, but well worth it. Went on a weekday and felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.
Overall a great course
I played here a couple times. It's always in great condition. Not very hilly, but very challenging for me, I am a 14-handicap. Great view run through many holes. Avoid the tournament, it's very quiet when you play in afternoon... I played many courses surrounded by highways (Sunnyvale), near by airport (Hayward Skywest, Oakland Metropolitan), crowded golfers (Milpitas Summitpoint) due to discount.... so, if you like to enjoy a round of quiet golf. This is a great golf course to play.
Watch out for the back nine!
I love the course, but it can get pretty windy in the afternoons out there. The front nine lulls you to sleep as it's easier to score on, then the back nine tends to kick your butt and humble a promising start.
Great layout, friendly staff
Do yourself a favor at this course and get out early as the winds really can pick up in the afternoons. We had a great day but make sure you call the pro shop as the greens had been punched with injection method (less bumpy method) and not listed on GolfNow.
