Firecliff at Desert Willow Golf Resort
About
A lot of courses say they're all about nature. Desert Willow Firecliff Resort in Cathedral City actually lives it. Natural desert plants are the star of the show here. So much so that the course was featured on the front cover of Smithsonian magazine.
Bobcats, coyotes and desert rabbits have free run of the place, adding another dimension to any round. When you see a bobcat out in the distance of the desert brush, you're not chasing after that golf ball. No matter how much cash you plunked down for the latest in long-distance technology.
Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry designed Desert Willow and it offers a good example of how you become a rising name in the golf architect game. The sand sculpting demands attention from the first hole.
The course looks intimidating to play. With a 138 slope rating, it plays that way too.

Great course, nice views
Weather was nice and the course was in great shape. Can’t wait to play it again.
Amazing
What a gorgeous wonderful course. We’ll be back! Not one bad thing to say!
Great course to play well on!
I really liked this course as the holes all had character but didn’t penalise you unfairly. The Canadian lad I played with and I both had great front nines. Unfortunately, we caught up with other players on the back nine which slowed us down quite a bit. Never mind, a good game of golf on a very nice course.
One of the desert’s gems
I have played this course several times throughout the year. It is always breathtaking in its beauty. The course is definitely resort-course style, very playable for all abilities, interesting, varied, and by its design is very secluded with many fairways seemingly tucked away on their own. In the heat of the summer, there are ample drinking water outlets. But the real bonus is the friendliness and professionalism of the staff, from valet to pro shop to bar and restaurant, the great clubhouse facilities, and luxurious locker rooms including showers.
Desert willow firecliff
Excellent condition and on par with Indian Canyons. Greens were a little slow. As the location is further away from the mountains it can get rather windy. But overall would play again. Not much difference from sister course Mountainview
Favorite So Far
Simply said, beautiful course. My husband and I booked this through Golf Now, got paired up with another twosome at the course and had a great round. The staff was great, the course layout made it fair for any level of play and a couple water hazards were well placed to jump up and bite you off the tee if you didn’t know they were there and I didn’t, lol. Seriously, we’re both single digit handicaps and this course, even for the price, would be a must play for us if we came back to the valley. It’s expensive but it’s well worth the price to play this valley gem. I couldn’t get enough pics.
Beautiful Course
After playing a bad track nearby, this was heaven. Visually pretty. Great condition. Fabulous bar and restaurant overlooking 9th and 18th greens.
Group of 16
Desert Willow has been on our Desert Tour list since 2005 and is a must play..Course conditions are always excellent. Staff and services are top notch
We loved the Mountain course. We were booked at Firecliff but we had an issue booking with GolfNow. We booked a tee time at Firecliff through GolfNow, showed up but they said our tee time was half an hour later. We would never have booked that time because we wouldn’t have been able to finish the round. Luckily, Desert Willow offered us a time on the Mountain course. GolfNow does not offer assistance with this issue on their website so had to write this review here. The Desert Willow golf experience was awesome...the GolfNow experience not so much.
Nice holes
Very nice course, and lots of actual desert willow. Very nicely landscaped and greens were around 9 - 10 on the stemp.
Pace of play
Pace of play was extremely poor. No Marshall was seen and we waited up to 15-20 minutes on the last 7 holes
Picturesque
Front 9 played at a great pace. Back 9 backed up all the way. One hole had theee groups waiting. No marshall on the course.
One of the best!
Fantastic course, very women friendly and great scenery. Generous driving lanes, greens in great condition and the course is alway in impeccable shape. Restaurant/bar closes early so late afternoon finishes require a trip to a different venue if you want to commiserate after a round. Very nice pro shop with great selection of the latest fashion for men and women
Firecliff
Rode the Purple tees (6676/72.1/136) in 4H, 20 on dawn patrol using Forelinx. Paired with Joey, Lou and Mike, all visiting Canadians. The weather was clear, fairly calm and around 75.
Playing conditions were excellent bording on immaculate across the board.
The tees were very nice. Lush and level with few divots.
The fairways are lush, firm and really nice to play from.
The rough is lush and mowed down. Good POP rough, not overly penal. Really nice to chip from.
The waste bunkers were firm and not as well maintained as the greenside traps. The greenside traps had good quality sand and were very nicely maintained.
The greens putted medium fast bordering on fast. Smooth and firm, I had 4-6' coming back AD.
Customer Service always excellent here from when you drop your clubs off out front to when you pick them up out front. Drink cart out making the rounds several times. Good GPS on carts. Plenty of ice/water stations on the course. The all grass driving range is included and above average. Nice practice chipping area. Highly recommended, one of my favorite courses in the Palm Springs area, .
Challenging and Rewarding
Superb conditions and beautiful layout. challenging course. miss the fairway and your in some thick grass which can be difficult to advance the ball along way. mainly because you will most likely have a uphill/downhill/side hill lie.
Apparently this course is regularly booked up, so expect to be waiting a little more than usual, we played on a Wednesday.
Practice facility and clubhouse are top notch.
Perfect Afternoon
I had heard good things about Desert Willow and on this particular golf trip we put both courses into the rotation. Needless to say it lived up to the hype. The Greens were immaculate. The course layout is great with different things catching your eye on each hole.
We'll definitely be going back.
