Camelback Golf Club - Ambiente Course
About
Camelback Golf Club features two courses, Padre and Ambiente (formerly known as Indian Bend Course). The Ambiente Course underwent a major renovation in 2013. Making the course more eco friendly was one of the major goals of the renovation in addition to improving the layout's playability for a wider range of skill levels. The creatively shaped greens offer a variety of different putting options that present interesting risk-reward opportunities. The renovation added 100 acres of native desert and grass areas that add not only beauty but also require a third less water. Rolling terrain is the defining characteristic of the Ambiente Course, from the undulating fairways to dramatic drops in elevation. There are five sets of tees with forward tees that have easier approach angles and no forced carried, allowing even beginners to approach the golf course with confidence.

Quality Links in Scottsdale
Playing a links course in Scottsdale was a nice change of pace for me. Lots of desert golf, lots of hilly range courses, and Ambiente didn't dissapoint with challenging flatland, grassy hazards. The course was in really strong shape from the tees to greens and the staff was amazing. Oh, and ProV1's grow on trees here - I think I walked away with 10 extra balls after this round! I'd play here again in a heartbeat. Lots of fun.
Many tee options and fast greens challenges all handicaps
Consistently great lies in the fairway and very playable along the edges. The greens were fun to putt, they were fast and rolled true. The staff is definitely well trained, they seem to recognize when to offer help or advice before it is asked for. Having free golf balls at the range should be the standard. It simply saves time and allows you to concentrate on your warm-up. The only thing that would prevent me from returning is the cost. If this was a discount
I will look for a better value. Abundant choices
Great course and challenging greens
The new layout and links style layout is great. You will not find many flat greens and proximity to the hole or being below the hole is very important. It was a pretty good challenge for the average golfer.
great place
Always enjoy playing here. A links style layout. Challenging depending on which tee box you play. Due to rain over the weekend the range was closed and it was cart path only which I didn't know until I arrived. Disappointed that I couldn't hit balls prior to playing.
Played the Ambiante...just a fabulous course in pristine condition!
Enjoyed a wonderful round of golf at my personal favourite, that didn't disappoint me! A demanding course with very little water, yet a variety of terrain to challenge your skills! Pace of play was good, as a twosome, we finished just over 4 hours and staff were very friendly.
I love this course! The greens were fast and true and the fairways were impeccable. I can't wait to play it again.
I haven't played the Padre Course yet, so hope to give it a go, with extra balls in my bag!
Truly a coarse to return to in Arizona
5 Stars - outstanding in every aspect
This coarse in my opinion is one that others should be judged against. From the time you sign in to to the last hole you play. My Fiancé (Non-Golfer) was allowed to ride the cart at no charge and she noted how professional the staff was and informative on all the coarse had to offer, even the use of the carts Tablet GPS
Without a doubdt this will be a coarse I will return to next January
Better than I expected
This course exceeded my expectations. I got a deal but it was in as good condition as anyplace I have been. Greens were fast and somewhat hard to read, but true. Very playable.
Great Course
The course Ambiente we played was redesigned a few years ago and was much needed, and I might say well done. The site lines are perfect, it's fair and rewarding with proper club selection and alignment, and 1 shot penalizing when missed. Greens are perfect, gentle breaks, nothing stupid, they roll perfect. Bunkers have great sand. We played the Verde 6650 yds, one up from the tips that play 7,000 plus and it's that's perfect for a 0-10 handicap I would recommend moving up to the whites if you really want to enjoy the course design if you're a 11+ handicap. FYI get there early great practice facility. Hope this helps.
Stupid pin placements - which idiot set these?
Visiting Phoenix and played this course with my wife. Course and clubhouse very nice. Course very green and lush and in excellent condition. Went out at a very good pace for 7-8 holes and then caught the crowd. Slowed down and had two local guys join up the rest of the way. They were cool and funny.
Greens are huge with a lot of undulation. That's not a negative, just a course design, but my title beef comes from the pin placement. About 50% of the pins were placed in about the hardest, most unforgiving spots on these greens; on spines, or ridges, or next to downslope runoff points. One 20 foot putt trckled past the pin about an inch or two, almost stopped, then sped up, turned left downslope and rolled 30 feet off of the green. Another was a 12 foot birdie putt, putting up the side of a ridge to a pin on top of the ridge. Putt just missed the lip on the right with enough momentum to carry past about 18 inches normally. Goes past, and then accellerates down the other side of the ridge and I have a 12 foot putt back up the other side of the ridge for par. These are just two
examples. The pins added around 5-10 strokes.
I understand the pins were the same way for the Golf Channel AM Tour event on 12/2, because I talked to some of the guys who played in that tournament and they were not happy. Also, maybe this is a Phoenix thing as far as pricing, but this felt like more of a $75-100 course green fee course.
Different for the desert
Not what you expect from a desert course. More traditional. Still very nice and fun and worth playing if you get a good price. A few good hard holes.
Great redesign
Dunes course in Phoenix. Fun layout with some good risk reward holes.
What a Course!
I've played this course a couple of times now and it gets better every time. The staff her is so nice, and very informative on the first tee. The course - while harder than many in the area - is so well maintained and true. It's easily the best links style course in the Valley and definitely one to take out-of-towners to when they visit. Can't wait to get back!
