Camelback Golf Club - Ambiente Course

Staff was friendly and helpful. Pace was a little slow for us but the weather was great. Not a great value for money. Only reason I would return was the friendliness of staff

Tricky layout with some well placed fairway bunkers to add difficulty but where it really gets interesting is on the greens.All of the greens have multiple slopes and contours making the breaks very hard to read.Prepare yourself for a few three putts.WQell worth the play if you can get a good rate on Golfnow but not at $135.00.

The course was in outstanding condition. Played in mid-late afternoon, pace of play was not too bad, got around in 4:15.

Very important to be in play off the tee on this course. If you are, you can score, if you are not ... you will have big numbers. A friend from out of state played with me, he was blown away by the course and its condition as well.

Also enjoyed the GolfNow "after 2:00" price that we paid!

I've played Padre before but Ambiente is at a whole different level.

Routing: Out 9 and back in 9. I'm surprised they didn't make the course more walker friendly. I was planning on walking with a rented push cart. The gentlemen at outside services said they had only 3 and they were all being used. They were very apologetic, I could understand why they don't have more. The course is pretty flat but green to tee walks are rather far.

Views/Elevation Change: Pretty flat, not as a good of views as Troon North, Quintero, We Ko Pa... Although you get a nice view of Camelback Mountain on a lot of holes!

Value: Excellent, the regular rate for my starting time was approx. $189. I paid $71 with tax & fees on Golf Now for a Saturday late morning.

Greens: I've played at least 25 courses in the valley. Ambiente's greens were defintely top 3 along with Wickenburg Ranch & Quintero. Running about 11 with lots of undulations. Challenging but fair!

Design: Very interesting. Room off the tee, good bunkering (similar to Erin Hills). I was excited to play another course design (Hurdzan renovated Ambiente) by Michael Hurdzan. The original Hurdzan designs that I've played are Olde Stonewall in PA, Little Mountain in OH, & Erin Hills in WI (My favorite course I've ever played, Host of the 2017 US Open). It's tough to find balls out of the native grass. Play the right tees and you'll be fine. 3 or 4 of the 1st 10 holes are risk/reward short Par 4s!

Pace of Play: The course was very busy. We finished in 4h 30mins but lots of stop & go. There were rangers monitoring pace of play but it was so busy there wasn't much they could do.

Course Conditioning & Customer Service: Excellent

Overall: 86/100

I'd give Ambiente a 6 on the Doak Scale

In my opinion the course meets 11 of Allister MacKenzie's 13 general principles of golf architecture.

I can't wait to play Ambiente again!

Layout was pretty straight forward greens were fast and large. Fairways excellent condition. More of a Links course w/ some unfair rolls in my opinion. I would definitely play this course again.

For the money, excellent course. Surrounded by courses twice the price. Greens in good shape and all tee boxes were perfect. Waste areas are ugly, but it's no bother finding your ball. Plays a bit longer than the cart GPS generally reads as well.

We played this course on a beautiful February afternoon. The course was in great shape and is only 2 years old. I found it enjoyable and challenging. Plenty of desert scenery and views of Mummy Mountain. The course is pretty level so if you are looking for elevation changes, this is not the one for you. I would definitely consider playing this course again when I come back.

The course has beautiful views. The course conditions were great, greens are tough to read and while fast are not terribly fast. This is a links style course with lots of waste area that you're not supposed to stay out of, so bring plenty of golf balls

The course opened 2 years ago and is in excellent shape.

Played Ambiente on a bluebird day. Course is so very nice. The conditions of the course were just outstanding. The greens were the best I have played in the valley and the renovations really made this course a must play.
The bunkers had plenty of sand and the tee box choices made for great options. We were all very pleased that we played it and all agree we will be back soon.

We have played many Scottsdale courses and we felt this course was one of the best values.

Enjoyed Camelback, played with Larry Fitzgerald, I am a Hawks fan, but enjoyed the round.

Fun course and very different than the Padre. Watch out for frost delays if you're playing in th winter months. We booked an 11:30 tee time and showed up at 10:30 to hit a few balls at the range. When we showed up they informed us that there had been a frost delay in the morning and all of the tee times had been delayed. We ended up teeing off a little after 12:30.

We we stuck with a dead cart on the thirteenth hole and in spite of two phone calls and promises of assistance no one ever came out with a replacement. When we managed to drive/push the cart in all the staff had gone home. I left a complaint and contact info and never received a call back. I would avoid this course.

This course has been completely redone and is much better then what it replaced.

Really interesting track. Always in great shape. Greens are firm and fast but always in excellent shape. I highly recommend.

Ambiente is an intriguing track with open space all around and full sight lines - but that doesn't make it easy. Course was in great shape, especially the greens. Only downside to the round was a very slow foursome ahead of us - but the ranger assured us they were on schedule and holes were full ahead of them. Third time on the course - like it a lot, though some of the holes look very similar, especially on the back. Broad landing areas in general, but some deep bunkers guard a number of greens.

The course is like a classic Links course. One way out and one way in.
The course was in pretty good shape and the greens were very fast.
Pace of play was slow even although there did not seem to be a lot of people out on the course. it took us 4.5 hours to play.
The course is surrounded by homes, and is not a picturesque as some in the area. However a good challenge, and a fun day out.
