Camelback Golf Club - Ambiente Course
About
Camelback Golf Club features two courses, Padre and Ambiente (formerly known as Indian Bend Course). The Ambiente Course underwent a major renovation in 2013. Making the course more eco friendly was one of the major goals of the renovation in addition to improving the layout's playability for a wider range of skill levels. The creatively shaped greens offer a variety of different putting options that present interesting risk-reward opportunities. The renovation added 100 acres of native desert and grass areas that add not only beauty but also require a third less water. Rolling terrain is the defining characteristic of the Ambiente Course, from the undulating fairways to dramatic drops in elevation. There are five sets of tees with forward tees that have easier approach angles and no forced carried, allowing even beginners to approach the golf course with confidence.

Golfer Reviews
Almost Troon Experience
This is interesting course. All staff members are extremely polite. The condition of the course was good considering middle of summer. Greens are soft but rolls fast and very true. The layout gets repetitious but still lot of bunkers and plenty of hazard area throughout.
Nice view to Camelback mountain was added bonus.
Great track
From a golfer that plays every weekend and has played just about every course in Phoenix Ambiente stands out from the rest. The layout is different than any other course in the city. The challenge on this course lies in the tee shots. Forced carries and trouble right and left will gobble up errant tee shots. If you can avoid trouble the greens a receptive and fairly easy to read.
Challenging but enjoyable
Overall, I really liked this course and enjoyed my round very much. What you get for the money, which I guess comes with end of August golf in Scottsdale, was awesome. Challenging layout from the tees, as I found it tough to see where to hit it on the fairway for a good shot. Greens are very challenging, some of the most challenging I've ever played. Soft conditions, but the slopes and multi tiered aspects of the greens made accuracy a top priority on approach shots. We played from the green tees, which were the second furthest tee boxes on the course, and it was plenty long. The fifth hole is one of my favorite holes I've ever played as well! Well worth it
Scotland in Paradise Valley
Excellent experience. Course was in immaculate condition, especially for August. Beautiful course. Take out the palm trees, cactus and amazing homes in the background and you feel like your in Scotland. Staff was some of the best I've encountered. Must stay in the fairway, the fescue is not forgiving.
Good
Good course very tight if you hit it on the green it seen to roll off.
Great First Time Experience
Nice course. Somewhat flat. Was in great shape for the middle of the summer. The homes on the course are stunning.
Unbelievably well kept
I have golfed almost every golf course in Phoenix. I especially like to play in the summer because the rates are low. The course is an unbelievably great shape for the summertime. Make sure you stay out of the tall grass. Great course for the money.
Great course 1st time.
Staff really friendly & helpful.
Seemed very sincere in helping.
Very hot day ~112
Course not busy
Bad, couldn't read the GPS screen-which made it hard to follow as a 1st timer. Asked for & got help on the course
Well maintained (mid-summer); very beautiful. Will return.
Great day!
Course conditions were fantastic. Kudos to course management as the fairways and greens were the best I've seen this summer. Played 18 in less than four hours. A very hot day but water was readily available and the Marshall even provided cold towels with eucalyptus scent! Staff was very courteous and helpful. A great day!!
Good greens and fairways
Always a pleasure to play. Short but challenging layout. Well Kept.
Amazing Layout, outstanding conditions for summer weather
I work in the golf industry at a private club in Scottsdale so I am a bit spoiled with great conditions and fast pace. For a public facility in the summer, I was jaw dropped at this course. WOW, the layout of this course is downright amazing. The course conditions for summer out here in the desert were beyond impressive as the agronomy staff has done their job right. The greens were rolling great, bunkers were good, and plentiful, and the on course water bottle stations were a nice sight to see for a public facility. Great outside Staff (Bagroom, Starters, On-course)
Overall, this place blew my expectations away. Job well done Camelback!
Great course to play
Fun to play hard but beautiful views
ambiente is a gem
This course is off the beaten path of Scottsdale courses but if you venture into Paradise Valley for a truly great golf experience this is it! I love playing this course
This course is amazing compared to the old Indian Bend Course
Will be playing this course a lot more in the future!
Great experience
A links layout. Greens read true. Excellent condition. Wild flowers everywhere. Length good for most handicaps. We played in 3/12 hours. Did tee off early in day but never saw anyone ahead. Staff very polite at every position. Even course workers stopped whenever we were near. Snack shop, cart lady, and all golf assistants were friendly and professional. Great experience, beautiful day...
Awesome golf experience
First time playing here and what a treat. We played six rounds on our most recent trip to Phoenix and this was probably our group's favourite course. The conditioning of the course was superb. The layout is very unique - definitely not your typical Arizona desert layout. But it's not easy by any means. The native fescue grass that borders the fairways will eat up golf balls and they are a lot harder to spot than you would think. Beautiful facility, will definitely return next year.
Target golf
Great course if you can place your ball where the architect dictates. Driver not necessary on many holes. Course was in excellent condition, but had many hazards. It was fun to play, but I preferred the second course called Padre.
