Camelback Golf Club features two courses, Padre and Ambiente (formerly known as Indian Bend Course). The Ambiente Course underwent a major renovation in 2013. Making the course more eco friendly was one of the major goals of the renovation in addition to improving the layout's playability for a wider range of skill levels. The creatively shaped greens offer a variety of different putting options that present interesting risk-reward opportunities. The renovation added 100 acres of native desert and grass areas that add not only beauty but also require a third less water. Rolling terrain is the defining characteristic of the Ambiente Course, from the undulating fairways to dramatic drops in elevation. There are five sets of tees with forward tees that have easier approach angles and no forced carried, allowing even beginners to approach the golf course with confidence.

Better than I expected

This course exceeded my expectations. I got a deal but it was in as good condition as anyplace I have been. Greens were fast and somewhat hard to read, but true. Very playable.

Great Course

The course Ambiente we played was redesigned a few years ago and was much needed, and I might say well done. The site lines are perfect, it's fair and rewarding with proper club selection and alignment, and 1 shot penalizing when missed. Greens are perfect, gentle breaks, nothing stupid, they roll perfect. Bunkers have great sand. We played the Verde 6650 yds, one up from the tips that play 7,000 plus and it's that's perfect for a 0-10 handicap I would recommend moving up to the whites if you really want to enjoy the course design if you're a 11+ handicap. FYI get there early great practice facility. Hope this helps.

Stupid pin placements - which idiot set these?

Visiting Phoenix and played this course with my wife. Course and clubhouse very nice. Course very green and lush and in excellent condition. Went out at a very good pace for 7-8 holes and then caught the crowd. Slowed down and had two local guys join up the rest of the way. They were cool and funny.

Greens are huge with a lot of undulation. That's not a negative, just a course design, but my title beef comes from the pin placement. About 50% of the pins were placed in about the hardest, most unforgiving spots on these greens; on spines, or ridges, or next to downslope runoff points. One 20 foot putt trckled past the pin about an inch or two, almost stopped, then sped up, turned left downslope and rolled 30 feet off of the green. Another was a 12 foot birdie putt, putting up the side of a ridge to a pin on top of the ridge. Putt just missed the lip on the right with enough momentum to carry past about 18 inches normally. Goes past, and then accellerates down the other side of the ridge and I have a 12 foot putt back up the other side of the ridge for par. These are just two

examples. The pins added around 5-10 strokes.

I understand the pins were the same way for the Golf Channel AM Tour event on 12/2, because I talked to some of the guys who played in that tournament and they were not happy. Also, maybe this is a Phoenix thing as far as pricing, but this felt like more of a $75-100 course green fee course.

Different for the desert

Not what you expect from a desert course. More traditional. Still very nice and fun and worth playing if you get a good price. A few good hard holes.

What a Course!

I've played this course a couple of times now and it gets better every time. The staff her is so nice, and very informative on the first tee. The course - while harder than many in the area - is so well maintained and true. It's easily the best links style course in the Valley and definitely one to take out-of-towners to when they visit. Can't wait to get back!

nice long course

first time here and definitely will be back.

course plays long and sometimes narrow, but playable.

pace of play was great and was not busy on the tuesday that i played.

the greens were a little hard and seemed to be tuff to hold long iron shots from rolling out.

the par 3's seemed to be all 180 to 210 yards and that is not from the tips.

a few muddy spots could be from recent rain or a little too much watering...

overall had a great time and will be back.

Challenging well laid out course,

Awesome staff. Fun golf course and the fescue rough makes it different from the usual Arizona golf courses.

I really enjoy playing Ambiente and would highly recommend it for its unique layout,

Almost Troon Experience

This is interesting course. All staff members are extremely polite. The condition of the course was good considering middle of summer. Greens are soft but rolls fast and very true. The layout gets repetitious but still lot of bunkers and plenty of hazard area throughout.

Nice view to Camelback mountain was added bonus.

Great track

From a golfer that plays every weekend and has played just about every course in Phoenix Ambiente stands out from the rest. The layout is different than any other course in the city. The challenge on this course lies in the tee shots. Forced carries and trouble right and left will gobble up errant tee shots. If you can avoid trouble the greens a receptive and fairly easy to read.

Challenging but enjoyable

Overall, I really liked this course and enjoyed my round very much. What you get for the money, which I guess comes with end of August golf in Scottsdale, was awesome. Challenging layout from the tees, as I found it tough to see where to hit it on the fairway for a good shot. Greens are very challenging, some of the most challenging I've ever played. Soft conditions, but the slopes and multi tiered aspects of the greens made accuracy a top priority on approach shots. We played from the green tees, which were the second furthest tee boxes on the course, and it was plenty long. The fifth hole is one of my favorite holes I've ever played as well! Well worth it

Scotland in Paradise Valley

Excellent experience. Course was in immaculate condition, especially for August. Beautiful course. Take out the palm trees, cactus and amazing homes in the background and you feel like your in Scotland. Staff was some of the best I've encountered. Must stay in the fairway, the fescue is not forgiving.
