Camelback Golf Club - Ambiente Course
About
Camelback Golf Club features two courses, Padre and Ambiente (formerly known as Indian Bend Course). The Ambiente Course underwent a major renovation in 2013. Making the course more eco friendly was one of the major goals of the renovation in addition to improving the layout's playability for a wider range of skill levels. The creatively shaped greens offer a variety of different putting options that present interesting risk-reward opportunities. The renovation added 100 acres of native desert and grass areas that add not only beauty but also require a third less water. Rolling terrain is the defining characteristic of the Ambiente Course, from the undulating fairways to dramatic drops in elevation. There are five sets of tees with forward tees that have easier approach angles and no forced carried, allowing even beginners to approach the golf course with confidence.

Golfer Reviews
Dissappointed
Looked like a Florida course. Frankly, it was a little boring. Flat layout, holes seemed to repeat themselves. While the course was well maintained, there was little information to determine how to play the holes. (The Ambiente course is not yet on the GPS system for Garmin or other range finders. The GPS system on the cart worked only part of the time.) Without course knowledge the greens are challenging. Greens rolled true but hard and difficult to hold. Several uphill greens that sloped away from the front. I would not recommend for a one time play. Probably OK for someone who is going to play it a few times to really understand the greens.
Great potential, needs work
I've played ambiante before and it's definitely improved but there are still many areas that could be better. Just the amount of grass on the fairways is limited. It makes shots tough unnecessarily.
The greens are excellent. Great speed but probably too much undulation for most.
More grass in the fairways and rough would help because the holes seems sloped to run away from center making the ball head toward the waste areas. That's a little too punitive if you ask me.
All in all, good course with lots of ways to improve playability.
Great links track
We live right on the course and watched the 10 million dollar remake, We finally decided to try it out. The course was in fabulous condition despite being just a few years old. Being a Marriott property the service and staff are great.
The course is challenging but very playable at the same time. Bunkers everywhere including being very well places to catch tee balls no matter what tee boxes you play.
my wife is a beginner and the forward tees provided her an enjoyable day. This is not a desert course....but very pretty.
Very unique layout!
As the course matures, the greens will become more receptive.
Love the course, will come back again, but....
Unique course and experience, fairways and greens in excellent shape. Love tough pin positions, but have to say there were a few goony golf pin placements. Greens so fast and a few holes were in middle of slopes, ball comes back to your feet. Need to use the tiers of the green to penalize shots, not bizarre pin placements to penalize lag putts.
Ambiente a must play
This is my favorite public fee course in Phoenix/Scottsdale. If you played the old Indian Bend course, come back and play this new world. There's really nothing like it that I play with so many shot choices from the tee and various ways to use the green contours to get it close. The site lines are wide open to see Camelback and Mummy Mountain. The greens are perfect. It's in great shape and a must play.
challenging
Great greens, fast and true.
Small landing areas off the tee box will take the driver out of your hands on numerous holes as much of the ruff is unplayable.
BORING
Been there done that don't have to go back. Very boring course straight down and straight back. Will say the greens were fast and undulating . Save your money....
Who would have known
Great gem in the heart of Scottsdale Great layout design and conditions. Enough challenge to keep it interesting and some of the trickiest greens in the valley
Links golf in thecdesert
Nice course that doesn't fit the mold of most Phoenix courses. Nice facility and course. Only negative is course is kind of wedged into property. It's 9 holes put in one direction and 9 back in the other. The course is well bunkered and surrounded by fescue. If you can't hit it straight it could be a long day.
Wicked fast greens
Fun course nice job on the redesign, greens super fast but fool great
a good day on the course
course was in very good shape, my playing partners were great. pace of play was good.
very friendly staff to greet you, even remebered that i was there the day before.
all in all a very good day on the course
Lightning fast greens
Great course in really good shape with lightning fast greens , 6 three putts on the back 9 , wrecked my scorecard . Fairways were in fantastic condition
GREAT ROUND
The course was in great condition. Challenging layout, but very fair with ample landing areas. Fast greens that were very accurate. Enjoyed the experience. The only complaint is there was no ranger to keep the pace of play moving.
Tough Course, Great Facility
Have played this course a few times since it reopened after being renovated and it is wonderful. Really great shape of fairways, rough, traps and greens. Don't miss the fairway or first cut or your ball is gone.
Mostly want to say that they were super accommodating when one of our players was late due to a flight delay as they sent him out to us on the 10th hole when he arrived with no qualms. This is a course that does not have a "turn" so it was a long drive. Fun course to play, but it will test you.
