TPC Scottsdale - The Stadium Course
About
Designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf, The Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale was purpose-built to host the PGA Tour's Phoenix Open, and it has done so since 1987. Designed with high drama in mind, the venue is well known as one of the most exciting and fan-friendly in all of golf, which includes a thrilling finishing stretch that begins with the risk-reward 15th hole. The course plays to over 7,200 yards from the tournament tees, but golfers who play the course during their Arizona golf vacation will find the layout has more forgiving fairways than many other area desert courses. The TPC experience includes one of the most encompassing practice areas in the destination, as well as grand clubhouse that includes the Toro Restaurant and Rum Bar. TPC Scottsdale is also home to the Champions Course, which plays out of a separate facility nearby.

awesome experience
I always dream to play one of the TPC course . Our caddy (Troy) was very good and helpfull . It was worth every penny . I am a single digit (4) handicap and loved the layout , very simple and not tricky at all . Stay in the Fairway and you will score well . Everything I dream about . Outstanding staff from bag dropping to the pro shop staff .
Pathetic!
Absolutly the worst course that I have played in the past 4 vacations to the Phoenix area. Terrible.
Fun for us, too
The site of the "Greatest Show on Turf" is also a blast for the resort golfer. The TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course is a tour-quality course (most of the year, but especially in the winter) with fairly generous fairways and a number of birdie holes if you play the right tees. Still, one of the thrills is to play the 16th and imagine the largest amphitheater in golf (as it is in the Waste Management Open).
Excellent conditions
The course is being prepped for the Champions Tour final stage qualifying school. Greens were in perfect condition, firm (but would hold iron shots) and quick, but not too fast. Fairways and teeing ground were in great condition (several of the tee box were roped off for the upcoming event).
Worth your time to come here.
Course conditions excellent. Cart path only, which is a bummer since you could play faster walking with a pull cart. The reason given was that a tournament was coming and they wanted the course pristine. Not much chance of that since most people had to carry a bevy of sticks each trip to the ball and not many carried the bottle to repair divots.
Must play, one time but very pricey. Great staff!
If you watch tournament golf, this is a must play course. From the whites, it's very short but difficulty comes from all the deep bunkers front and back of greens. I played in early November, teeing off at 1:10 for $200 and worried about running out of daylight by 5:45. We got done but just barely. Course and practise facilities are well maintained. Staff is outstandingly friendly and helpful. They are already though setting up for the tournament in February and will have the 90 degree rule in place until after the tournament. When we played they are not mowing the greens very tight yet, again protecting the course for the tournament. They had the back tees roped off at #16, and the grass on the green was very long, and slow rolling. Still I enjoyed my round and would recommend it to others. The staff reports that after the tournament, the TPC is going to thoroughly update and revise the course to make it more challenging for the big hitting pro's. Very playable from the whites and blues for the high handicappers.
a very playable course
this was the second time i played in 2 weeks. we were waiting on each hole. it took us over 5 hours to play. we tried to ask the marshall to do something but were told that with 200 plus on the course it was just going to be slow. Totally unacceptable. This is sacrificing good play for money. We were quiet disappointed if this is the perspective of TPC. By the way we were 4 women who are used to playing in just over 4 hours. We averaged 81 to 98 so are average golfers.
Beautiful condition, wide open, rather slow greens but great shape
Loved playing the course. Wasn't in my best form on the first nine (I'm 75 now and takes a little longer to get loose), but I played pretty well on the second nine. Even put my iron on the famed stadium 16th par 3 within 24" of the pin and made my birdie. I see why the pros tear this course up with low scores, but they are going to completely redo the course before the next tourney in Feb with new greens, relocate the hazards so they come into play for the pros as they now just drive way over and beyond them. Will be interesting to see how it plays when rework is completed. Great place.
Great experience
Greens were very average, were expecting very fast. However fairways and tees a dream and bunkers very consistent. We really enjoyed the experience and the starters were very friendly and helpful. However, the course lacked a Marshall to keep the pace going and we found ourselves waiting on most shots. Even with buggies on the cart path should be easily less than 4 hours.
Course
Great course and fun to play. Course condition good except most rough on back nines 4 or more inches long.
TPC Champion on the path
TPC Champion is a fair test of golf with both accessible holes and challenging holes to keep it interesting
It is tougher when it's cart path only but not brutal by any means
Great views and very challenging
more difficult on a windy day, plays much longer. Greens are normally fast, but over seeding slowed them down
Great course, fun pairing!
I was a solo player and got paired up with an older couple and a very good younger player. We had a great time. Everyone played fast and enjoyed the course. The course had just been seeded so we could not drive carts on course which made the round a bit longer. Course was in great shape in spite of that.
Slow Play No Marshaling
Group in front of us was 2 holes behind and marshal never said a word to them....just drove by, when we asked the marshal he was rude and dismissive Will not return
A fun course to play
Course in good shape. Greens were excellent. Pace was great. Rough was not bad as course was getting ready for overseed. Fun to play where the pros play. Makes watching the Waste Mgmt Phoenix Open more interesting.
Course was great.
Great day began with the friendly people at the bag drop off area. Instead of the usual strapping of the bags on the cart, the attendant asked me who was driving so the bags were on the proper side of the cart to begin with. The course was not busy and we were allowed to tee off 25 mins early as a twosome. The course was in great shape and played as a desert course should. Even though there wasn't any GPS on the carts, there were numerous distance markers to help judge the shots. Even in 107* heat there was plenty of cold water and the cart girl came by at least 5 times. Can't wait to replay the course after the over seeding is completed for the winter.9/
Worth it, but not the best golf in Scottsdale.
You start your journey like all TPCs with a feeling like they really don't want you on their practice area. This is apparent when they send you out with a tiny bag of balls to warm up and a guy keeps running around to pick up any balls left behind by other golfers. The staff is always super friendly, especially the starters. The first two holes are extremely tight as you head out into a residential area. The play from the 6th hole is wide open, however, and a treat to play "where the pros play". And everyone out there seems to play as SLOW as the pros do too. It's painfully slow, even in the summer 105 degree temperature. This would also be a great place to practice your "tee it forward" speech as too many players think they should be playing back with the pros that shouldn't. Be aware in the summer that the 16th hole looks nothing like the tournament hole and is really rather short and easy but everyone still takes 30 minutes to play it. So be prepared for a long round on a good course with lots of tourists who don't fix divots or rake bunkers.
Loved TPC Scottsdale Champions
I thought the course was in great shape especially for early Sep in AZ. I would definitely go back.
