TPC Scottsdale - The Stadium Course
About
Designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf, The Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale was purpose-built to host the PGA Tour's Phoenix Open, and it has done so since 1987. Designed with high drama in mind, the venue is well known as one of the most exciting and fan-friendly in all of golf, which includes a thrilling finishing stretch that begins with the risk-reward 15th hole. The course plays to over 7,200 yards from the tournament tees, but golfers who play the course during their Arizona golf vacation will find the layout has more forgiving fairways than many other area desert courses. The TPC experience includes one of the most encompassing practice areas in the destination, as well as grand clubhouse that includes the Toro Restaurant and Rum Bar. TPC Scottsdale is also home to the Champions Course, which plays out of a separate facility nearby.

TPC While we're young!
I have played here a couple of times before. Many people want to play here to say they've played #16.
Most TPC courses get a good number of players and things move along. Unfortunately this was not the case. We were advised that the pace would be 4 hours and 15 minutes. 3 hours later after finishing number 2 (my 11th hole of the day) I had had enough. Waiting on every shot ruins a good experience. When I told the guys at the bag stand what was happening, they said I should tell the guys in the pro shop. They apparently hear this alot and aren't getting any response. The only response I received was that I could come back later and finish my round??? or get half my greens fee back. They missed the point entirely. If I had a customer that didn't like their steak would I ask them to finish it later or give them a refund on the uneatened portion? Slow play is inexcusable! Make people tee off from the appropriate tees and encourage them to keep pace. Apparently TPC Scottsdale needs the revenue from tourist more tan local repeat customers. :-(
$35 Play all day. . .
I've played here repeatedly and love this course. It's really challenging if your game is off and rewarding if your game is on.
The staff rocks, it's all about you, you are their guest and it's clear that is the most important part of why they are there. The place could be a burned out weed patch and the staff's attitude and concern about your experience would make up for any perceived deficiency.
I had a gift given to me by the starter, I played the first tee time of the morning out as a single, a two and a half hour round on the most pristinely manicured and perfectly prepared golf course I've ever seen. It was like the place was my own private course. Amazing. Unlike many places where you can "sneak out" ahead of the first tee time of the morning, that isn't an option here. If you can buy that first slot, the only folks ahead of you will be the greenskeeper setting the new hole for the day and the grounds crew. The course will seem like it was prepared just for you and your group.
For what it's worth, I've had staff members at both courses tell me they find the Champions to be a tougher track. I played Stadium today and I believe they're in a general sense correct. Tee shot placement at Stadium is tighter than Champions, but overall shot placement at Champions is far less forgiving than Stadium. Play both and find out for yourself!
The weekday $35 all you can play deal that ends the 12th of September is the best value in the valley. This visit was a 36 hole play day.
Just like Stadium, the practice facilities here are amazing, the range is precisely mark, the tee ground is like carpet, the chipping, putting and sand practice areas are flawless.
TPC is all about golf and the golfer. Make time to play here.
Wow!
Went for the Twilight rate, because I'm a cheap bugger.
All the rain we've had has left the course in phenomenal condition, and if you can believe it, the, Champions course is even better despite the Stadium being closed all of July.
The staff rocks to the max--Each staff member makes you feel like you own the course and you are the reason they are there. AMAZING!
The practice facility rocks to the max
The entire experience rocked to the max AND, at $48 bucks, how do you go wrong?
The staff at both places will tell you the Champions is tougher, and having played there repeatedly, Stadium has it's challenges, but it is unquestionably easier to score here over Champions.
Golf at a higher level
Just as I might have expected, every detail at this TPC course demonstrates the value of excellence. From tee to green, the course is well maintained in a way that elevates the enjoyment of the game. The fairways are a bit narrow and while rough areas are higher and thicker they are only mildly punitive. Native areas are mostly covered with fine gravel, so you don't have to search to long and you can navigate a rescue shot. The bunkers have fluffly sand and the relatively soft greens roll true. The course design provides a nice variety of distances and layout strategies as well as an abundance of beauty. I love all the undulation in the fairways, the variety of trees throughout the course, the strategically designed green complexes and the picturesque walking bridges. Having well marked sprinkler heads and a great yardage card are two more details that contribute to making this an authentic professional golf experience.
Phenominal course
This was my first time playing the Stadium course at TPC. It may have been the most enjoyable round of golf I have ever played with the exception of Pebble Beach. The whole place is awesome and conditions are pristine. Challenging but completely fair. Greens, fairways, traps, everything was as good as it gets. The finishing holes are SO much fun!
Only 1 complaint
Pin position was advised to be number 1 by the starter. After about 6 holes in, we realized it was not pin position 1, but actually pin position 2, which was apparently on the sign near the first tee box. So we played to pin position 2 for another 4 or 5 holes, until it became very apparent that the pin position was changing on every single hole after about 11 holes. Very confusing and between 1-2 different club choices with the deep greens etc. For the price paid, and it being a TPC course, this should be remedied
The course was in amazing condition. Great fairways and pristine greens.
Wonderful day out at TPC. Can't wait to get out and play this course again.
Greens & Fairways in poor condition
Poor condition for a top level course. Especially aggravation are the number of cart only holes (four plus the par 3s). Also annoying are the numerous holes where the cart signs are in excess of 100 yards from the green. Makes a hot day even hotter.
Sand "trap" is appropriate term
After playing many rounds in what is considered sand around here, it was almost impossible to get up and down from the bunkers at TPC. Sand was so soft ball usually plugged in the face of the trap about eye high...very tough to get stance. Rest of course was in better shape than usual this time of year. Starter convinced us to go off early, forfeiting any practice privileges...I don't suggest this. Then they put singles and twosomes right behind us (a foursome) pressuring us to let them through or rush ourselves. Outside service guy at the end was a bit rude in pursuit of a tip for cleaning clubs, leaving a bad taste at the end of the day.
Don't let this course fool you - must stay on top of things.
As one would think playing in AZ in August is not for the faint of heart, but the cloud cover rolled in and the day was fabulous.
The course was a 9 out 10 - only because of some dry spots on the edges of the greens - but we were told in advance. One can imagine playing here with the bleachers all up and filled to capacity - the course throws challenges where you think there should not be any, and vice versa.
Play where the pros play.
Given the heat, the course was in really good shape. I have played here in the summer before when the course was plugged and sanded. This time everything was green. We teed off at 10:00 a.m. and got around in just under 4 hours. It was hot but there was plenty of water and a drink cart was available 4 or 5 times during the round. The cold towels helped also. As you go around the course, you can't help but wonder what its like to play here with 150,000 people watching you.
Good value
Course was in excellent shape for August. Greens ran very true. Excellent variety of holes.
poor course maintenace
Started play at 8:00 AM on the back nine
Watercoolers did not have ice.
12 th hole with water on one side has garbage and pails on the surface of the water. Very porly maintained for the price we are paying at compariable courses.
greens had alotof deterioated areas as well around the green.
Great challenge on a famous track
Some of the course was in need of attention due to the excessive heat that area has had this year, nonetheless still very playable. Super demanding from the back tees. Precise shot making a placement is key. Most fun I've had shooting so so in a long, long time.
great course for summer golf.
Super condition course for hot summer conditions. EVERYTHING so green and perfect. Don't waste money on Stadium Course, this course is so much fun to play. STAFF is very friendly.
Great fun to play the course they have the Phoenix Open at
Greens were in very good shape for August. Couple of fairways in not great shape. Sadly, 15 was in poor shape. Overall, great layout with some minor fairway isssues. Price was fair and staff was very nice
Great course
Definitely not the shape as it is in February for the waste management open but great challenging course
Once in a lifetime experience!
I played both courses, starting with Champions. The conditions of the back 9 of Champions were great, whereas the front 9 had been top-dressed. Very interesting layout with a couple of par 4 doglegs that offered great risk reward opportunities.
I played Stadium under light rain but truly enjoyed the experience. The course offers a fascinating variety. We got started on the back 9. The par 5 15 is really interesting, then the first thing you realize you're at the iconic 16. It is sure different without the stands!
Overall, it was a memorable experience!
course was in poor to fair shape
Had to try it since the pros play here. I wasn't impressed. the courses I played at troon were much better, and cheaper. I wouldn't play it again.
Over priced poor condition
You pay a lot more to play here, simply because of the name. Fairways were VERY sparse, with almost more mud than grass. Greens were slow and bumpy. Absolutely not worth the price they charge, especially considering the condition and prices at the many good courses in the valley. TPC needs to charge appropriate to their product, not just their name.
