TOUGH
This wonderful gem will challenge every part of your game. Water and bunkers guard all but two holes with extreme prejudice. If that not enough the green will test what ever is left of your game. I really loved the challenge Deer Island presented, and the wildlife was amazing and plentiful.
Surprised
We discovered Deer Island a few years ago.
Challenging layout but fair.
Some local knowledge required to enjoy it to it's fullest so; advise playing it a couple of times to learn where the problems are.
Was surprised by the course condition.
Has always been pristine condition but this time the greens were in bad shape and fairways spotty.
Hope this condition is temporary
Course is in great condition for this time of year in Florida
Excellent experience with perfect weather and great conditions. Will definitely play again. Lots of water so bring extra golf balls..
Excellent course
On the return list every year
Well worth the drive
Great layout. Questionable greens
Have played a few times and the layout and challenges are top notch. However some of the greens were very rough with weeds while others barely had grass on them. Hopefully they will heal.
Water everywhere
The course with the best conditions we played so far in March. Teeboxes had grass, fairway also.
Greens hard and very fast, but good playable.
Great Course
This is my favorite course in the Central Florida area. The course is beautiful and in great condition. The price of this course is second to none. Greens are firm and fast. You are sure to see wild life during your round.
Needs work
Deer Island is one of my favorite courses to play but apparently one of the hurricanes caused quite a bit of damage earlier this year. The greed are being infested with poa annua grass so they are bumpy in spots. One of the greens has collapsed into the pond that guards it as a result of the flooding from the hurricanes so there is a temporary green in use on that hole. Regardless of the problems I would still recommend first time visitors to play the course because the layout is great.
Deer Island
One of my favorites. In great condition. Lots of water in play. Plays tough in the wind.
1st stop on vacation
On my way from west coast of Florida to Orlando and I booked deer island on my way based on the reviews. It didn’t live up to it. Fairways were ok and bunkers pretty good but I was in shock on how bad the greens were. On a scale of 1-10 not one was over a 6. Some were so bad with disease and weeds you couldn’t even putt. Not that I’m a great putter but good god!! This course could be amazing if the owner put money into it. If he dosnt and soon,he’s gonna be out of business because nobody wants to play in these conditions. The great part of my day was the checkin people, the starter and the guys i played with, which were so friendly, helpfull with navigating the course. I had a fun day with them. But I would not recommend this course now. When everything is fixed including their signature hole that the wall has completely collapsed and is under major construction fixed.. and THE GREENS !!! then I would highly recommend this course. Not until then!!
Deere Island
The course was in nice shape. A lot of work spent on clearing around all water edges.
DICC
The course layout is fun. Played several times the last few years. Fairways in great shape. Several greens and tee boxes are not in great shape. Rough appears to be not well maintained. Lots of viable weeds throughout course. Course does not appear to be maintained as well as it had been the last few years.
Vacation golf
First time playing Deer Island. It was nice with all the water and we even saw a pretty big gator sunning on the bank. It was cold and windy for the first hour or so, but appreciated it more when it warmed up into the 60s. You unload your own bags and get your own cart and drop off your stuff after. There was a cart girl that did a good job getting around. Pace was pretty good. Course was in ok condition and greens could have been better, but we enjoyed our round after the weather improved. Staff was nice.
Great Course
Watch out for the huge gators! I would definitely go back and play again!
Disappointed
The course is in much worse shape than prior years. Poor greens, fairways, and tee boxes. Not worth the current greens fees. Hoping the new owners can bring the conditions up to standard
Hidden gem
This course is a hidden gem. Very challenging. A must play for our golf trip
Not What It Once Was
I was very disappointed. I have loved this course and played it many times. it was always in such great shape, I even met the owner one day he was an awesome dude. It was one of the best looking courses is central Fl. It's just very far and hard to get to but it was worth it. Not this time. Booked an early tee time and convinced my buddy to come with me after bragging about this course. I probably haven't been in about a year. It's taken a sad downturn. It just was not aesthetically pleasing at all. It was pretty bad especially after being so nice just a year ago. So I will say its not worth the drive at all and will not be going back. I wish them luck.
