Mission Inn Resort & Club - Las Colinas Course
About
Las Colinas is one of two championship golf courses at Mission Inn Resort. It is less challenging than the other course, El Campeon, but both provide enjoyable and unique rounds. Las Colinas sprawls across gently rolling hills with elevation changes that are less startling than those found throughout the older El Campeon course. Twisted oak hammocks and a sprinkling of lush pines accent Las Colinas. The golf course has an inland links layout that boasts wide-open, forgiving fairways and large, receptive greens. There is an interesting variety of risk/reward opportunities as well as a few forced carries. The course has many player-friendly features but its classic architecture does call for a fair amount of accuracy, especially on its signature hole, the par-5 12th. Nicknamed "Alligator Alley," this 493-yard hole features a winding, tree-lined fairway.

5 star layout 3.5 star conditions
I had heard that the 2 courses at Mission Inn were highly touted and since we couldn’t get off the better of the two, El Campeon, we chose to play Las Colinas expecting similar conditions. I would say the course isn’t overly expensive however I don’t think I’d pay $50 for it being in the shape it was in. Now, let me first say that it wasn’t in bad shape by any means it just could use refining in spots and although they just punched greens recently, there are courses of the same tier that heal better as these greens were hoppy. I absolutely loved the layout however. I think that there was a true “golfers” mix of narrow and wide, short and long holes. This kept it engaging the whole round. I’d say it’s worth the play on a weekday rate but feel like you’re better off going somewhere with a proven track record on the weekend.
Great course.
Playing golf at Mission Inn is always a great place to be. The course is always in immaculate condition, and I will reccomend both courses to anyone who wants to play golf in Central Florida.
Poor management
I have played here 5 times this year and I don't know why I keep going back? It is an excellent course in great shape all the time but the management is very poor . They treat Golfnow tee times as step children. My time was 1:58 and got there at 1:15 and was told i had to wait until 1:30 for hot deals. No one on tee. Ridiculous. They should stop partnering with Golfnow if they are going to treat their customers poorly.
Play in Lightening?
Had to quit due to lightening and approaching rain. The clubhouse would not affirm with Golf Now for a 9 hole raincheck. I don’t know why I go to Mission Inn anymore. The GM is just inflexible. Anyway Golf Now gave me a $20 promo code for my aggravation. I will play elsewhere now where customer service is important.
Beautiful, But Beginners Beware!
Today has taught me that a bad experience with a staff member is the difference between a 4 and a 5 star review. With that said, let me start with the overwhelmingly positive 95% of my experience at Las Colinas today.
1. The welcome staff met us at our cars with carts and loaded our gear. They were friendly, masked and considerate of personal space.
2. The pro shop staff was friendly and efficient.
3. Mission Inn provided complimentary range balls this morning, so taking into account the parking lot cart service, transitioning from parking lot to warm-up was painless and worry-free.
4. The fairways were by far the most immaculate that I have seen in my short time as a golfer. Even though the greens were recently aerated, they were very playable. The course is beautiful and challenging. The cart paths are well-maintained, and some of the transitions between holes are beautiful and natural... Old Florida at its finest.
5. Beverage service was operational, and the attendant (Maddy, I think) was friendly and made it by 3 or 4 times before we finished our round.
6. I had a lesson with one of their golf pros earlier in the week, and in one short hour she was able to make a significant difference in both my power and accuracy, which made working my way through a challenging course far less frustrating than it could have been.
Before I get into this next part, I'm a novice golfer who is still trying to figure things out, and I recognize that I'm going to be slower than more seasoned golfers, but I have taken learning golf course etiquette very seriously and am mindful of behaviors that can unnecessarily make my play even slower. i pick up my ball at double bogey and rarely take a mulligan. I don't waste time. My practice swings and shot setup are pragmatic but pretty quick.
So you can imagine the anxiety that my son and I, both novice golfers doing the best we can, felt when a member of staff came up to us at the tee box for hole 5, the first par 5, to let us know that we needed to pick up the pace based on the fact that the foursome in front of us, who were clearly skilled golfers, were off of the hole 5 green before we teed off.
I explained that we are beginners and don't move as quickly. He responded by suggesting that because we had an early tee time, we had a responsibility to set the pace appropriately. I asked what he would suggest to help us progress more quickly, and he said to pick up the ball at double bogey. We explained that we'd been doing just that and asked how else we might be accommodating. His response was unsympathetic and stern, saying that we just needed to hurry it up.
This made the next few holes unenjoyable for us because all we could think about was not holding up other golfers. The golfer that we were paired with was experienced and very patient with us. He told us not to sweat it, but because my son and I are both very self aware and do our best to be considerate to others, we rushed our game in a way that made it feel like work rather than the relaxing experience that golf is supposed to be.
If a golf club is that concerned with maintaining that level of pace (in off season no less), then they should discourage novice golfers from booking earlier tee times. That lack of communication is not our fault, and that particular staff member needs some lessons in customer service. If he had come up to us and suggesting a mode of gameplay that might speed along our progress and approached us with a little more humility, I don't think that either my son or myself would have been so negatively affected by this experience.
Regardless of that, I will be back... probably many many times in the future.
Very good course. Freshley aerated but still plays nicely. Good value. Plays long when this wet. But it is that tine of year. Great course. Great fun.
Great layout and conditions
The course was in great shape from tee to green. It has a great mix of challenging holes with some more open fairway holes. I would definetely drive the 50 minutes each way to play it again.
Mother Nature
Las colinas has been added to my too ten.....easy. If it wasn't for the storm that hit on # 8, things would have been a lot better. Now, up until the 8th hoke I could not have asked for better. The sraff are top notch & probably deserve more credit than they receive. Already thinking about a return trip ti play the whole 18.
Great experience....bad weather.
Mother nature didn't cooperate...but the holes i diid get to play will be the reason. For trying again. Course was in excellent shape, great design. Staff were absolutely wonderful.. Can't wait to book another round at Mission Hills.
Great course
This course is in absolute great condition. Every part of the course is well maintained. The greens are super fast, lots of break and fairways are lush green. Will play for sure.
Have I died and gone to heaven?!
What can I say!? I’ve played both tracks at MI many times. However. Today was my first return to las Colinas in a few years. All I will say is that El Campeon has a serious competitor! Hats off to the staff. Best greens... in Florida... BAR NONE! Great day of tough golf!! A MUST PLAY!
Pace
We played in under three hours. Greens were a little slow but rolled true.
Nice day of golf
Course , staff lay out , greens as usual great . Pace of play extremely poor two minutes short of five hrs, wait at tee , wait on fairway, wait and wait no ranger to asked . Other than that excellent but five hrs not my cup of tea
But you booked for 1:58. You have to understand there is no benefit for them to let you off early when they aren’t really seeing the revenue from your tee time.
