Rating 73.8

The highly popular El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort consistently ranks in the top 10 of Florida's many golf courses. The course originally opened in 1917 and decades later in 1992, it was joined by a second 18-hole course, Las Colinas. El Campeon is not only one of the state's oldest golf courses but also one of its most challenging. The traditional design remains largely unchanged except for a renovation in 1926. The course winds through towering forests and numerous spring-fed lakes. The layout features water on thirteen holes as well as dramatic elevation changes that measure over 85 feet across the rolling fairways and undulating greens. The signature hole of the golf course is the par-5 17th. This lengthy double dogleg possesses more hazards than some entire courses do.

Saturday Morning Special

Course was in great shape. Greens were beautiful....not overly fast but a nice safe pace. Fairways had plenty of grass...rough was somewhat groomed ....same for the sand traps. Some of the tee boxes were a little uneven and chopped up but very playable. The only negative was despite teeing off at 8 am in the morning it took almost five hours to finish the round. This is a problem for many golf courses.......pace of play has nothing to do with good or bad golfers. It is all about people caring about others.

Nice scenery, Poor pace of play

Played El Campeon for the first time and the various changes in elevation made it for an exciting time. Never a dull moment for 18 holes. Distance control and direction control come into play in every hole. Pace of play was horrendous as they have a Teen state tournament and where playing a practice round. Teens (and parents) had no concerns for groups behind them. We never saw the Ranger on the course. As a result, it took 4.5hrs for a two-some to complete 18 holes. Really disappointed we did not get a warning of the upcoming tournament when making the reservation.

Great course, fun to play.

This course is in great shape, as always. It was very hot, but pace was excellent, finished in 3.5 hrs . Very enjoyable round, this course will challenge you, you must place and make certain shots to be successful on this course. I thought the greens are slow for my taste, they seem fuzzy and need a cut/roll to speed them up.

Excellent course

This course was recommended to me by my brother who described it as “Probably the most un-Florida Florida golf course you’ll ever play.” Having finished my round, he couldn’t be more correct. Elevation changes, well placed bunkers/water, and incredibly friendly staff all made for a top-notch experience. My only opportunity area is the lack of GPS in the carts. My tee time was super early on a Monday, so it wasn’t a problem, but I can imagine a pace problem on more popular days/times. Still highly recommend the course and would love to play again.

Outstanding

As always wonderful day of golf at a great course, play it few times before and all been great , this time the pace was awful slow due to a four some in front, playing extra balls and who knows their discussion, no one in front for several holes we can see, won’t allow us to pass. Took us extra 45+ minutes to finish. Not the facilities fault. Come and play you will love this course

Great course but no pandemic restrictions

Great staff and great course but would appreciate it being mandatory for staff and guests to wear masks in the proshop and all indoor facilities.

Awesome Course

The only issue for me is that the Members have faster carts than the guests and I didn’t like the fact that they were always in our tails, felt a bit rushed though as it doesn’t appears that their carts are “governed”.

Other than that was a great day of golfing and will definitely be back again......

Legendary Central Florida Course

Beautiful facility with a great blend of challenging holes & birdie holes. Playing on Father’s Day meant the pace of play was quite slow. Would absolutely play this course again!

Always a fantastic course!

Played El Campeon on Friday June 19th with 7 buddies as the start of a Fathers Day weekend getaway. El Campeon was challenging as always and as per usual was in fantastic shape. We then played 18 on El Dorado which is set up with Executive tees on Las Colinas. Had a great time doing that and we got a preview of Las Colinas in the process. , we played 18 on the regular tees on Saturday the 20th. Course was in excellent shape! Other than 14 being under repair so it was playing as a par 3 instead of 4. As hot as it was we still had a great time! I highly recommend spending a golf weekend at Mission Inn whenever you can!
