Holes 18
Type Resort
Par 72
Length 6543 yards
Slope 137
Rating 71.9

The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.

Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.

From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Couldn't beat it

The weather was beautiful. The course was in great shape after having heavy rains 2 days before. The starter was very cordial and informative. I look forward to playing there again.

Pleasantly surprised.

This was my first time at Port Royal. Although I have been to Hilton Head many times previously, I had always missed Port Royal off my schedule.

I loved the course layout . It was fair and nowhere near as tight as I had imagined. For the most part the fairways were generous and rewarded a well struck tee shot.

The tee boxes had been recently reseeded and needed a trim, however this was a minor concern. There were a few wet areas around the approaches to greens, so it wasn’t possible to run the ball onto many greens. The greens were a good speed and in great condition.

Our pace of play was ok - we played as a two. We got let through by a foursome on hole three and we made great progress until catching up with a threesome who did not let us play though (despite there being several holes empty in front of them.)

I would definitely play this course again and we are scheduled to play Robbers Row tomorrow. If it’s of similar standard to today, we will be delighted

Perfect day for golf

Beautiful day for golf on an excellent course. Challenging and tough to scramble. Poor pace of play.

Fun layout

My 17 year old son and I both enjoyed this course. Other than one hole that was a bit of target golf, it was pretty straight forward and fair. The greens rolled well, the sand was consistent and everything else was well taken care of. The staff both inside and out were all courteous and helpful. I would definitely go back.

I wont be going back

Course was very crowded. Bag drop was deserted, service was poor, had to go ask starter to help find a cart. Pro shop attendant barely looked up from her lunch to check me in. Course conditions were marginal, tee boxes were crabgrass or sand. For the price, it does not compare favorably to other courses on the island. I wont be going back.
