The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.
Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.
From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Underwhelmed
We played the Barony course today. Overall, I was surprised that the course wasn’t in better condition. I have never played in Hilton Head before and understand that the grasses are different than up north. There were some bare spots in the tees and fairways, and the greens were not fast. The traps were also not worked today. We recently played in Kentucky and Tennessee on the way here and the courses were in far superior condition. Overall, it was a nice experience, and the staff was great. We booked through GolfNow. If I had paid the normal price >$100, I would have been quite unhappy. It was fine for $72.

I have not played barony course in a long time. Forgot about the small greens. Great shape. Definitely recommend.
Fun course
Course was in good condition. Fun layout with small, friendly greens that held great and were relatively slow. Golf staff seemed great .
Staff
For only the second time in 500+ rounds, the picky check in manager "required" a print out of my reservatio9n (which I did not have) erven though she knew I had a reservation from her looking at her computer the day before - quite irritating. You probably should bring a print out or expect a silly hassle.

Had a wonderful day with my wife. We were not rushed, the course was well cared for and had great weather!
OK for the price
Played alone in 2:30. The course is not especially challenging in terms of hills and especially greens.
Beautiful course
We enjoyed the course. It was in good condition after several days of heavy rains. As hackers, we were challenged, but loved playing there.
Barony
It has been a while since I played this course but I really enjoyed it. Good old low country golf course with very generous fare ways. Saw lots of wild life and just a fun day. Thanks.
