Barony at Port Royal Golf Club
About
The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.
Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.
From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Barony course Photo submitted by JIMMYLAW77 on 01/10/2018
Ideal conditions, great pace of play
The greens on both the Barony and Robber’s Row courses were perfect ~~ what a pleasure. Three of us played in 3 hours and 20 minutes today and four of us on the Robber’s Row Course in a little over 4 hours two days ago. We like the layout of Robber’s Row a little more than the Barony 18. All in all, very pleased with the courses and all personnel!
Probably not worth its cost
I'd heard good things, and the pictures shown online seem a bit inaccurate. The course was full of weeds and just didn't seem kept up.Rather disappointed for what they perceive themselves to be.
Nice Course
Played Robbers Row last year and wanted to play this course this year. Unfortunately got behind a 4 some who didn't know how to play and frustrated me most of the front nine. Finally passed them and had an enjoyable time. I saw Ranger and I felt he didn't do anything to remedy the back up. Otherwise, staff was great and course in great shape.
sb394ever,
Thank you for your feedback and rating. Sorry to hear pace of play wasn't as good as it should have been. Also, appreciate your feedback on our course ranger. I'll review on-course procedures and expected pace of play with our team. Look forward to seeing you on your next trip to HHI.

Port Royal - Barony
First time to HH Island. Had a fantastic time at Port Royal. Wife and I went around 3:30 and I think the whole round we only saw one group behind us. We had plenty of time to finish while taking our time. Course was in fabulous shape with lush surroundings everywhere. We'll be back!! We even met a staff member who's inlaws were from the same small town we were from SE of Houston.
Good time
We rented clubs and they were good, but bags need replaced. We were teamed up with 2 people who were very nice. Course layout good and greens are in great shape. Staff friendly and courteous. Would come back and play
Great course
On vacation from Ohio and this course is better than any of my normal courses back home. This was the 3rd different course I have played since I got to HH and it’s the best one by far. The greens are terrific. Staff was great and the layout was incredible. If you have a tendency to spray your approach shots like I do, you better bring your bunker game. I think I hit every one of them on the course!
Tom,
Thank you for your rating. Also, glad you enjoyed your round and appreciate your positive comments. As you mentioned, accuracy on our courses are more important than length. Look forward to seeing you again soon.

Lots of Water
Greens were in good condition. Lot of water. Many direct shots to green blocked by bunkers. Fairway conditions were ok. Not as bad as described in some reviews. Resort course so slow play expected, i said yes to would recommend to a friend but I’m ambivalent to that response.
Great Experience
Course was in great shape, fun course! I will go back.
Solid course, pace a little slow
The grill was excellent, highly recommend! The staff and range were awesome, but the course was only average for HHI. A fair layout and course conditions were decent. The resort pace of play was a little frustrating, but understood with it's clientele. There are some many options on the island and Bluffton that I'm not sure I would pay the price to play again.
Nice course
Good condition. Well maintained, especially the greens. 5 sets of tee boxes so good for all levels to play. Challenging, with a fair amount of water, but fairways are open so relatively forgiving. An enjoyable and pretty course.
Rather disappointing
Our review is similar to one posted a few days earlier. Greens very (very) slow with some being postage stamp size. The front nine is tighter than the back and with more character.but short with doglegs that kept the driver in the bag most of the day. More weeds than grass around the greens making chipping problematic as ball would settle between the weed clumps. Pace of play for the front was good (right at 2 hours) but glacial on the back when we had five groups on one short dogleg left par four. The excuse - we were behind a tournament - does not hold water since the last group of the tournament played in five hours per one of the staff. Okay, so on a resort course you expect many non-golfers or novices enjoying the day and slowing everything down but we flooded a threesome following a two some with another threesome behind us. The starter - or the pro shop should have paired someone in fivesomes knowing how glacial the tournament groups were. Took the pro shop thirty minutes to get someone out to explain the issue although more an excuse. For the price - $90 plus $8 for a small bag of balls (BTW, the range was poor with virtually no grass in the teeing area) in high season you would expect better.
