About

Holes 18
Type Resort
Par 72
Length 6543 yards
Slope 137
Rating 71.9

The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.

Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.

From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Fairways

Great staff. Some of the friendliest people I have met on a golf course. Greens were great. Fairways were terrible.

Avg course.

For the money not worth it. For that they are charging I think it should be in better shape. The greens where the only thing that was green.

Much better second time around

Although my first experience wasn’t great, my second try at Port Royal was wonderful. Again, Jay in the pro shop was helpful and attentive. But the starter and attendants were also incredibly helpful this time around. They fell all over themselves to get my bags loaded, helped to orient me and it couldn’t have been better. The Barony course was challenging but still fun to play. Very well maintained as well. Thanks for a great afternoon!

Nice Overall

Very nice place to play golf. Would like to see forward tees in place. The courses I usually play are around 4,500 yds from the “Friendly tees”. It just makes it more fun for Seniors and beginning players.

Pace of play would have been better if the course had forward tees.

Fun golf course with challenging holes

For a resort course with a ton of play, our group found the golf course to be in very good shape. The pace of play was remarkable - four hours!

The back nine calls for some thinking off of the tee. We will. return in the future.

Not up to par

Layout was fine, nothing special but playable- lots of dogleg lefts and some really small greens. But the real issue is the state of the course- its in poor condition and bad upkeep. This isn’t due to the time of year or dormant grass, when fairways are littered with weed patches and bare spots and bunkers are left unkept it’s a sign of poor upkeep and management. Greens are still decent but not fast.

Best of Barony

Course is in decent shape for the amount of play. Some challenging holes and overall fun to play for all levels. Our pace of play, although acceptable, was slower due to VERY slow 4-some in front of us.

Would recommend this course to all.

There's just no grass

If you only care about the greens, you'll love Barony right now. But if you don't like hard pan lies no matter where you are, then wait for the grass to grow at Barony. It's one of our favorite courses on HH, but they're charging based on time of year, not the condition of the course. It's pretty ratty around the greens and fairways may be greenish, but the grass does nothing to keep the ball off the dirt.
