Holes 18
Type Resort
Par 72
Length 6543 yards
Slope 137
Rating 71.9

The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.

Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.

From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

Need some TLC

Tee boxes and Fairways were not in the best. There’re much better courses in the area for that kind of money. A separate note and kudos for the staff, they’re super friendly and very welcoming, that’d be my only reason to play this course again.

Interesting layout

I played from blue tees. Interesting layout, many doglegs, nice greens and sand bunkers. Rough in very bad conditions. Beautiful clubhouse but closes too early. You cannot get a drink after 6:00 pm.

First Time At Barony

It was a gorgeous day at Hilton Head with temps in the mid 70's. Everyone was at the course, so pace of play was slow (4 1/2 hrs). For March in S.C. the course was in very good condition. The best of any course I've played down here this month. The greens were particularly in excellent condition. The course itself was fun to play and challenging enough for a 12 handicapper. I will play it again on my next visit to HHI.

Nice Course

Brought my two sons to Hilton Head for a golf weekend and had a great time playing the Barony Course. We got a hot deal through Golf Now for a mid day round. Staff was very friendly and course was a lot of fun.

Great for Novice golfers

Can easily make this course more challenging by using the T box selections. Those who travel from winter and are a bit rusty, this course is a great place to start.

Play Robbers Row

We played Robbers Row and Barony courses at Port Royale and would heartily recommend them to anyone visiting the area. It was a bonus for us from Rhode Island to be able to play golf this time of year.

Disappointing

Have played here before, was excited to be back. Course was over booked. We quit after 9 holes, we were backed up 2 to 3 groups ever hole. We were sent out, group ahead of us had not teed off. We were not even there for 2 minutes and the group behind us showed up. Not an enjoyable way to play. 15 plus minutes at every hole.

Very good course in less than ideal shape

Great layout, challenging but very fair. Pace of play was good with a 4-1/4 hour round. Tee boxes and greens in very good shape but fairways and rough were much less than ideal shape. Pro shop staff were very friendly and helpful.

The reason I scored it low was because of the cost for the course. It definitely was not worth the amount I spent. The course was fine to play, I was just expecting more for the price I paid.
