Jack Nicklaus designed the golf course at the Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run. The 18-hole, public course is touted as having one of the best layouts in the area. The par-72 course offers 7,014 yards of challenging and fun golf. Golden Bear Golf Club at Indigo Run's design emphasizes strategy rather than power. Sand and water hazards add interest to the course. In addition to providing a great game of golf, the course also has picturesque scenery with the many oaks and pines that snake though the course. It has been named one of America's Top 100 Courses priced under $100.

Course is decent but not worth the money...
No cart girl all day long and the lady running the grill was an absolute witch

Great Day at Golden Bear
Course in very good condition from fairways to greens. Fairways are narrow but as a higher handicap golfer, I did not lose any balls in 18 holes.
Only issue was pace of play. It was very slow.
Staff on course (cart person) and restaurant were very pleasant.

I have played Golden Bear many times over the years and I was very pleasantly surprised by the overall experience yesterday. The course was in very good condition (except for the overly long rough which caused us to lose 3 or 4 balls that trickled just a few feet off the fairway never to be seen again). I commented to my playing partner that the entire club seemed more cared for "and "alive" than it has in recent years. Keep it up!

Great Day on the course
Very friendly staff from the minute we stepped out of the car. The day was hot but we played at a decent pace until the 13th hole then it backed up a little. Over all a good experience for the first time playing the course.

Golden Bear, Hilton head
Very good course. Choose the tee distance right for your level. Course is in excellent condition, wide fairways, excellent greens. The sand traps are the only thing less than excellent as there are lots of pebbles in the sand which is not light and fluffy, but packed and semi-hard.

Stay on the fairway
Nice course in great condition, would definitely play again. To improve pace of play, however, we highly recommend the Bermuda rough be cut shorter. At the current length, the balls settle and sometimes cannot be found, slowing play looking for the ball.

Course was not is good condition. Greens had recently been punched and were very bumpy. Pace of play was slow

Greens were recently and we were not told. Also, cart path only and the cart kept beeping even though we never left the cart path. Very annoying. Disappointed.

Discounted price for sanded greens, beverage cart that runs regularly, especially when it hit in the 90s, or allow personal coolers.

Superb layout but dreadful experience
I had read great reviews of this course and spoken with folks who played pre COVID. The check in process was pretty rough - very terse staff who seem disinterested in welcoming players especially after I mentioned it was my first time. When I finally found the range, it was overgrown with invasive grasses and in general poor shape. We found the starter who told us the course was 20 minutes behind even at our 950 tee time! Once we finally teed off, we found consistently subpar conditions especially in tee boxes, bunkers, and greens. The tee boxes were notably lackluster. But worst of all was the pace. We quit after 9 holes because it was not even enjoyable. 2 hours and 32 minutes total for the front 9 with waiting for 10+ minutes on each tee box. The layout was varied and interesting, I desperately wanted to like it. The par 3s and par 5s were a real joy; they made me want to like the course. I would not recommend this course to anyone - Hilton Head Island has so many other wonderful courses in pristine conditions with hospitable staff and enjoyable pace!

Average to Challenging
Would like to play this one again. We caught it right after aerating and sanding off the greens. Putting was not ideal and impacted scoring. The layout is challenging but no so much an average golfer who plays between 95-105 can enjoy their time. It was not crowded so pace of play was good, Disappointed did not have a refreshment cart on Course during a 95F day and had to wait for turn to get some gatorade, and even though had a personal cooler, they do. not allow them

Very nice course. Played on Labor Day Saturday so course was very busy and play a little slow. Good value for Hilton ahead courses. Would definitely play again.

Played 9-1-23. Crew did a good job removing limbs and debris. Greens fuzzy and bumpy from aeration. Everyone was super nice. Good value at $65. I’ll play it again but not at $130.
