Oyster Reef features elevated tees and lush fairways lined by thick stands of live oak and pine. Numerous doglegs accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. Varying sizes of greens with well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.

The par-3 sixth hole, which plays 192 yards from the back tees to a green set against a backdrop of Port Royal Sound, is one of the most visually spectacular holes on Hilton Head. Oyster Reef is now a semi-private member-owned club with a limited number of tee times for guest play,

The carefully-maintained facility, designed by noted course architect Rees Jones, continues to be a favorite destination for serious golfers as well as a favorite with locals.

Overpriced for current conditions

Second time playing this course, and the condition of the greens has deteriorated considerably since last spring. At least 5 greens had bad spots that were heavily sanded and still recovering. The 9th green was completely unusable and had several square feet of fresh sod. NONE of this was mentioned at check it, and they charged the full rack rate of $130. I've played $50 public tracks with better greens. Cart guys at bag drop even bragged about what great condition the course was in. What an overpriced joke! Very disappointing!

Oyster Reef review

The course was in good shape and the staff was very friendly. Layout? Lots of sand and lots of doglegs. The pine straw along the edges of the rough kept your ball from getting lost but was very tough to hit out of.

NEGATIVE: We had decided to have lunch at their Tavern. I walked in and the host had his back to me. Said he would be right with me. Several minutes passed and I saw him talking with someone in the kitchen. Finally a waiter came up and I told him we would like a table. He seated us and that was the last we saw of him. After 15 minutes, we didn’t even have a glass of water. Btw, there were only 5 tables occupied. We left through the pro shop and they were surprised to see us. I explained why. They apologized but no effort was made to correct the situation. Enjoy the course but find a better place to eat.

I keep coming back whenever I'm in HHI

Oyster Reef is quite possibly the most consistently well-kept course on the Island! I've been playing there for about 20 years and it never disappoints...this includes the course as well as the staff!

Very good course

Back nine is tight with houses all over, which is not an issue if you’re a good golfer but I struggled with nerves almost every shot.

still a great layout…!!!

last previous play on Robbers Row was 25+ years ago…loved it then…and still do….one of the best courses on HHI…..

this time was a first though in that it rained….used 4+ gloves and finally gave up on changing them…..couple of holes no rain…rest were solid drizzle and a couple plus were downpours….yet it was still a blast…!!!

trip was a bucket list completion for my playing partner…and the rain did not stop us from having a really great time on a really great course….I think everyone else gave up and we were only ones on course…..would do it all again…..

but drier play would be nice…!!!

Tiffany is an outstanding hostess in the bar and a lot of fun - loved her “blue” eyes….she made a great dinner place suggestion = Benny’s which put the best end on a super day - best day, and course, of 5 day trip…..

weird sound

it has been 25+ years since I last played oyster reef ….. and upon my first shot landing on the green I heard the distinct weird sound the ball makes when landing anywhere near or on the green…..I had forgotten about it over the years but immediately remembered it ….it sounds like there is a layer of plywood about 1/4” under the green ….just weird……..

but also noticed after considerable rain prior to our play the greens did NOT hold the ball even high pitch shots did not bite and no pitch mark left on surface……otherwise a normal hilton head golf course….

Very nice course!

Greens are pretty close to perfect for this time of year. Really can’t think of anything to complain about on this course.

Horrible Conditions, high price

The greens were a mess, there were multiple greens that were patchwork, different lengths of grass, and large patches of sand. Highway robbery that they charge what they do to play there. Hilton Head National and Old South were beautiful for half the price

Good layout and condition

Oyster Reef is a good layout and a good test of golf for any level. The only thing that would have made it better is if the greens were faster, but it’s understood they don’t cut them short in the summer.
