Rating 74.7

Oyster Reef features elevated tees and lush fairways lined by thick stands of live oak and pine. Numerous doglegs accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. Varying sizes of greens with well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.

The par-3 sixth hole, which plays 192 yards from the back tees to a green set against a backdrop of Port Royal Sound, is one of the most visually spectacular holes on Hilton Head. Oyster Reef is now a semi-private member-owned club with a limited number of tee times for guest play,

The carefully-maintained facility, designed by noted course architect Rees Jones, continues to be a favorite destination for serious golfers as well as a favorite with locals.

Good layout and condition

Oyster Reef is a good layout and a good test of golf for any level. The only thing that would have made it better is if the greens were faster, but it’s understood they don’t cut them short in the summer.

Oyster Reef

Overall, a very good course, however, there were a lot of doglegs. If you spray your ball off the tee, then this isn't a very forgiving golf course, and you will lose a lot of balls/hit from the trees. Conditions wise, the course was in good shape, and the greens were moderately paced. It was a decent course to play.

Great course to play.

Post hurricane there was some water, but I was very impressed how they we able to get it looking great so fast. Greens were real good. I guess with all prices going up I get the raising prices. Still don’t like it. Is what it is.

Great Layout

Layout was great. Pace was awesome as we were first group out and played in 3 hours as a foursome. Greens were punched about 2 weeks before so we’re still a little rough and sandy as they were recently top dressed. Staff was super friendly and was a great value on HHI. Palmetto Dunes and Sea Pinea courses are a really nice as well but are now all over $200 a round. For the money I really enjoyed Oyster Reef and Hilton Head National. Both in great condition and reasonably priced for HI.

Surprise, surprise

Sure, when you get to the course they have signs letting you know that the greens have been areated, and the course is not fully recovered. You’re not kidding! The greens were packed with sand and far from normal conditions. That information should have been made clear before you choose the course you want to play, pay the booking fee and schedule your vacation day

Great golf

Great layout, such cool holes, and the most beautiful hole in Hilton Head, number 6! Loved every hole and first time ever playing the course or seeing it, shot 74 from the blue tees! Would absolutely recommend playing this course!

Challenging course

My wife and I played 18 holes on 7/19/24. Course has lots of dog legs, making par 4s two shot to green for sure. The greens were hard and a bit thin, and they played into the grain slow, down grain faster and cross grain a complete guess. Putting was an adventure. #9 played a made up new green as the normal green was out of play. The green was not that nice. The signature hole #6 was as awesome as advertised. On water holes (like #11 and 16) they do not have drop zones. For a 205yrd par there all over water, the lack of drop zone is a bit of a time and ball killer.

The temps were in the 90s , and we only saw the drink person once in the round. Thank god we brought a lot of our own water.

They also do not have a locker room to change out of your wet clothes, other than the men’s bathroom. In summer, you really need to change out of your wet clothes.

9th Hole

The course was in good shape overall. The greens were slow. The 9th green was a temporary green which was disappointing but what can you do
