About
Oyster Reef features elevated tees and lush fairways lined by thick stands of live oak and pine. Numerous doglegs accented by strategically located mounds and fairway bunkers, call for well-planned tee shots. Varying sizes of greens with well-defined tiers place a premium on precise approach shots.
The par-3 sixth hole, which plays 192 yards from the back tees to a green set against a backdrop of Port Royal Sound, is one of the most visually spectacular holes on Hilton Head. Oyster Reef is now a semi-private member-owned club with a limited number of tee times for guest play,
The carefully-maintained facility, designed by noted course architect Rees Jones, continues to be a favorite destination for serious golfers as well as a favorite with locals.

Golfer Reviews
Ranger
We had an unfortunate experience at this course due to an overzealous ranger. We were first out in the AM and were playing at a respectable pace of about 2:10-2:20 for 9 holes. The ranger passed us multiple times on the front and never interacted in any way.
When we came to 10 he told us due to our slow play we had to skip 10 and go to 11. Mind you the group behind us was nowhere to be seen. He was rude and had no valid reason for this decision.
We had to at finish 10 at the end of the round which required us to wedge in between other foursomes which slowed pace of play and annoyed the other golfers.
Just a bad experience which was totally unnecessary and didnt accomplish anything but to annoy everyone and further slow pace of play.
Avoid this place at all costs
Fun Day
Staff was great. Pace of play about 4:15. Greens are excellent...rest of course is as you would expect this time of year. Layout is nice...first time a little difficult due to doglegs you aren't familiar with in terms of where to aim for.
All in all, I'd play again, but probably in the early fall!!!
Fairways were in rough shape
I understand that golf courses require maintenance, but was disappointed and surprised by the amount of sand on the fairways. Compared to the other courses within their network, this course was is in the roughest shape.
Just ok
The course was definitely showing a winter struggle. Pace of play was fine but it was not mentioned before we headed out that they were painting the fairways. That led to a slightly less enjoyable day and messy. For the cost of play - you should be informed of this or at least play at a discounted rate.
Needs overseeding
Really enjoyed the course. Greens were true and receptive. Sand traps smoothly raked. Fairways were not overseeded. Consequently, fairway shots were far more challenging than necessary.
Greens were the nicest feature of the course.
Fairways were void of grass and covered in sand. Might be a maintenance thing in South Carolina. Not sure. Hard to hit off of sand all day.
Better conditions
Fairways were over seeded and you played on green grass from tee to green. I will play there again next time on the island
Fairways
If you spent a little money on overseeding the fairways it would be at least playable. Hitting off of bare dirt and dead dormant grass was not what I was expecting of a course of such stature.
Almost impossible to play those fairway conditions.
