Robert Cupp at Palmetto Hall Plantation
About
While Hilton Head is chock full of courses designed by some of the greatest names in golf, just one of them was designed with a computer to give it lines straighter than an arrow throughout.
The Robert Cupp Course at Palmetto Hall can be one of the most interesting and eclectic courses you'll play, as well as possibly one of the toughest. From the back tees the course plays to 7,079, with a slope rating of 144.
Named as Golf World's top designer in 1992, Cupp created a course that is visually challenging as well as challenging to play. With sand traps looking as if they were drawn in by, well, a computer, this is a course you'll tell your friends about, though you may not tell them your score.

Pleasant Afternoon
My son and I played the Cupp Course and found it to be a fair, but challenging test of both of out skills (He plays high 70's-low 80's, and I play to a 20+ handicap). We both decided we could play the course much better after having experienced it for the first time. Though there is water on most holes and the course is well bunkered, we both were able to avoid most of the hazards. Wide fairways are the norm, though some landing areas provided a challenge to approach a variety of greens and pin placements. All in all the course provided a pleasant experience and a perfect setting to spend the afternoon with my son.
Overall facility - Very Nice
Played as a single. Nice fairways and greens. Very nice club house and food.
Enjoyable
A fun and challenging course to play. Lots to look at. Great value with GolfNow. Staff were very accommodating since we arrived early but they let us tee off earlier too. Course wasn't busy so two of us got around in just over 3 hours.
Incredible value for the money
I had played here once before and found it quite a challenge. This time I played form the senior tees and found my comfort zone. The course is in great shape form tee to green. There is a variety of shots and you have to pay attention to where the pin is. For 20 dollars I could play here on a regular basis, although I know we got a sweet deal on Golf Now for a noon tee time.
Great Deal in HH area
The course was good and the greens were very good. Nice place and not overbooked. I will try to play here again.
Great value...will play again.
Great layout.......greens were fast and true.....staff was nice ....good practice short game area...Monday's however range was closed .....will play again in our 2 week stay on the island.
.
Great track
Love this course. Greens are fabulous and very fast. Need to hit over water on several holes and approach shots. Need more soft sand in traps. Wish I played better. Enjoy.
We played the Robert Cupp designed course.
Back when it opened this track was unique for two reasons;
In 1992 this was the first golf course completely designed on a computer.
It had the highest slope rating from the gold tees of any golf course in the area.
The Cupp course and its companion the Arthur Hills course were purchased by the Brown golf
management team. They own over 30 courses.
The course has good fairways and tees, but the greens seemed irregular in some areas.
We played with another couple and made great progress until the 12th hole.
There were 8 foursomes backed up over three holes and no marshall to be found.
These duffers were totally lost looking for errant shots in the bush.
I asked the golf shop about the missing marshalls.
They said that they were eliminated after the recent takeover. Also, there was no beverage cart and it was a busy day.
The Cupp course is a tough test of golf but waiting for hackers is not my style.
As the preacher remarked in Blazing Saddles, "You're on your own".
The best bet is to get an early tee time and be out in front for a fun round of golf. Read less
Tough for my level
This course was beautiful & challenging. Every green is protected by water or sand. As a mediocre player my approach shots were very difficult. Every green is sloped and FAST. I still enjoyed the challenge and would definite play again. TE
This is a beautiful course.
Cupp is a challenging course with a beautiful well maintained layout. Everyone working there is very friendly. I had a wonderful round and it was priced fairly.
Well established course
Sadly a very slow fourball in front of us who had no one in front but would not let us through
Very enjoyable round of golf. I was the first player out on the course and played in 3 hours. The course was well maintained and required some shot making decisions. I would definitely play this course again.
Good deal
Course was nice and very fair. Fairways good and greens rolled well. Good value. Cart paths need a lot of work.
Getting Better Each Week
Both courses at Palmetto Hall are improving all around. Most people do not realize how much hurricane damage they sustained...you can still see effects on the sides. However, the course itself and greens are in excellent shape -- play it back and you will have all the course you want.
Cart attendants, pro shop employees, starter and cart girl are all top notch and extremely helpful.
I play here a couple times a week and just love it.
The Course was fun to play
The course was in good shape the prople were very friendly
Well kept.
Great course. The greens were fantastic. Rolled well and true. Ample room in fairways to let your drives fly. Not too many bunkers, but enough to make you choose your approach shots carefully. A 10 handicap will should shoot the same.
We are truly happy to hear you enjoyed your round with us and will pass along your kind words to the responsible departments.
We look forward to having you all out with us again soon!
Thank you for playing with us! We are happy to hear you enjoyed your day.
