Rating 75.2

While Hilton Head is chock full of courses designed by some of the greatest names in golf, just one of them was designed with a computer to give it lines straighter than an arrow throughout.

The Robert Cupp Course at Palmetto Hall can be one of the most interesting and eclectic courses you'll play, as well as possibly one of the toughest. From the back tees the course plays to 7,079, with a slope rating of 144.

Named as Golf World's top designer in 1992, Cupp created a course that is visually challenging as well as challenging to play. With sand traps looking as if they were drawn in by, well, a computer, this is a course you'll tell your friends about, though you may not tell them your score.

Great Day

Found a hot deal and played Cupp course for $24.50 at 11:30. First time ever that we did not see anyone in front or behind us the entire round. Challenging course but playable for the average golfer. Very enjoyable day!

Challenging

Played today Crupp course. Great conditions perfect golf day. Pro shop associate very pleasant and accomadating. Starter welcomed us and gave us the run down of the course. Nice guy!!!! Nice tee boxes, fairways very receptive and rewarding with a good drive, greens were just recently top dressed but still rolled well. The most challenging course I've played all year. But fair!!! Course really made you think. Today would of been a 5 if the pace of play would have been a little speeder. Hard to get in a rhythm, jammed up ahead and behind you. Still had a good time. I paired up with a great couple from Canada, Vince and Susan. Made the wait not so long since we kept some conversation going between teeing off. Lisa the cart attendant very nice!! Thanks for having one. Would definitely play again.

Solid

Cupp course was in good shape with slow greens. Pace of play was fine. Interesting layout with a couple of funky short par 4s. Locals rate of $49 incl range balls was a good value.

Beautiful layout. Conditions typical for a Brown course.

I wish the course was in better condition. The layout can be challenging but fun. Played for $20 with a GN hot deal, so how can I complain.

First time playing this course and was very pleased with course condition. Fairways were nice, greens were great and rolled very true. Only issue was minor problem with pace of play. Great deal on golf now. I highly recommend this course and plan on playing again on next trip to HHI.

Nice course in good shape

Staff was friendly and helpful - even bringing out water and ice when we let them know one of the water coolers was empty. A couple of tough approaches requiring water carries but there were bailout places if you were willing to give upa stroke. Greens were pretty quick.

Nice Hilton Head Island features

Nice amount of water and sand to make the coarse a challenge. Nice homes around the coarse. Need the golf cart to get between the greens and the next tee box. Would probably look into playing this coarse the next time we visit Hilton Head Island.

Better hit them straight. Otherwise, you'll have trouble. Some fairways seemed narrow.

Fairways and greens in good shape.

Hot and muggy

Well maintained with 4 sets of tees. Rough was a little unforgiving for your average player but and overall 7 or 8. Weather was hot and muggy so take one extra club

Difficulty is legit

The course as a six handicap from the tips was too much to handle. The landing zones for someone who doesn't carry the ball over 250 were way too tight: that said, my dad played the senior tees and it was fine. Greens were ok, not smooth. Great layout, staff extremely friendly, pace excellent. I'd go back hoping I could hit it better.

Enjoyed the time, played from the White tees with one other person and we had great conversations. The round was over befire we knew it.

The greens were slow but true, faster by the time we played 13 on.

Course in excellent condition. Just found it not very interesting. Seem like play the same holes over and over again. Good value just not very exciting. Would play it again without hesitation If didn't have other options in the area

This course is not as well maintained as HH National which we played a few days earlier and would highly recommend. These greens we fuzzy and burnt in spots. Tee boxes could use so work as well. . We played in a threesome and finished in under 4 hours. Never thought I'd ever say this but I felt rushed. Groups behind us we're apparently in a race. Not sure if that's the course jamming in to many tee times or just our luck.
