Rating 75.2

While Hilton Head is chock full of courses designed by some of the greatest names in golf, just one of them was designed with a computer to give it lines straighter than an arrow throughout.

The Robert Cupp Course at Palmetto Hall can be one of the most interesting and eclectic courses you'll play, as well as possibly one of the toughest. From the back tees the course plays to 7,079, with a slope rating of 144.

Named as Golf World's top designer in 1992, Cupp created a course that is visually challenging as well as challenging to play. With sand traps looking as if they were drawn in by, well, a computer, this is a course you'll tell your friends about, though you may not tell them your score.

Hot and muggy

Well maintained with 4 sets of tees. Rough was a little unforgiving for your average player but and overall 7 or 8. Weather was hot and muggy so take one extra club

Difficulty is legit

The course as a six handicap from the tips was too much to handle. The landing zones for someone who doesn't carry the ball over 250 were way too tight: that said, my dad played the senior tees and it was fine. Greens were ok, not smooth. Great layout, staff extremely friendly, pace excellent. I'd go back hoping I could hit it better.

Course in excellent condition. Just found it not very interesting. Seem like play the same holes over and over again. Good value just not very exciting. Would play it again without hesitation If didn't have other options in the area

This course is not as well maintained as HH National which we played a few days earlier and would highly recommend. These greens we fuzzy and burnt in spots. Tee boxes could use so work as well. . We played in a threesome and finished in under 4 hours. Never thought I'd ever say this but I felt rushed. Groups behind us we're apparently in a race. Not sure if that's the course jamming in to many tee times or just our luck.

Really good course

Course was in great shape. Breezed around in2 ½ hours. Outstanding layout with some hidden trouble. The greens were aerated a week ago but were very smooth and puttable. Plenty of room off the tees...a second shot golf course.

Vacation / Hilton Head Island, SC

We picked our Tee-Time in the heat of the day therefore there was absolutely no wait time, we even got on a little early, we chose this course because of the "Hot Deal" and if all the courses around here are this good and well maintained then it speaks for itself, the reason the course got just a good was that morning they aerated all the greens so the true feel on the greens wasn't there

Course is Great

Hadn't played this course since the "Winter" as in February time frame. The course is looking great. They had just aerated which we knew going in so we expected the sandy greens and not a lot of roll. For me it tends towards a better round because I can attack the holes without punishment. The bunkers were fantastic besides maybe one or two that leaned a little more towards a trash bunker with that cement feel to them but those were easily avoidable anyways. Played for a fair price especially with the free range balls this course always offers. Definitely one of my favorite courses out of the Brown managed ones.

Nice course, staff not so much

Course layout is excellent and fun. The greens were still sandy from being recently punched. The guy running the clubhouse argued with us about our tee time until we showed him he was wrong, no apology just ok go on and play. Cart guys were very nice though. Overall an average experience.

We am very sorry to hear about your experience with our staff. While we do encourage our staff to be diligent in confirming all guest reservations, there is no excuse for any form of confrontation. We are happy to hear the course and round were enjoyable, however.

We would love to discuss this incident further with you to gain a better understanding and help to ensure we do not see this happen again. Please feel free to reach out to us at ProshopPH@gmail.com.

Thank you again for joining us, we look forward to speaking with you.

Cupp Course needs better service

Followed the reviews for the Robert Cupp course and decided to give it a try. I'm an advanced player. Course is a good test and the conditions are very good. I gave 3 stars b/c there was zero water on the course.

It's mid summer in HHI and temps are uber hot/steamy. No cart girl and the 4 water coolers were empty at Noon. On the Cupp, #9 does not return directly at the clubhouse. You can get there but it's a drive and you will likely loose your spot on 10.

Brown Golf, staff up so there's a cart girl or at least fill the water coolers if you want me back. Also stock Gatorade as a beverage choice in the golf shop. It's downright dangerous.

Goid value but...

Course was in good shape and offers a challenging layout. Greens were very good. However, there was no drinking water on the course and no cart girl. It's mid summer in HHI and it gets blazing hot and humid. All the water coolers were empty by Noon. C'mon Brown Golf. BTW, no Gatorade in the golf shop. That needs fixing. Plan ahead if you have a mid morning tee time.

Undecided

Aeration alert, while we were aware of the aeration, would like to play again after greens are back in shape. The fairways were well kept, though course was bone dry. Staff was great, booked online advance tee time, rain in forecast, called the course and they moved tee time to another day without even questioning, big props. Starter was helpful and informative; not your typical course, some greens are huge, others are minuscule. Pace of play was good, other than a fivesome out in front of us, but course wasn't busy so we still had three finish in 3:50. Variable tee options for various skill levels, not any yardage marked on course other than tees and 150 markers. Some holes had pin locations that felt a little gimmicky. Some hidden water as well. Overall it was a good experience, will return if second or third round for the week, wouldn't make this my only HHI golf experience in a given time frame. Water coolers were located about every other hole which is a big plus in the humidity of the Island.

Overall recommend checking out course!

Golf Now should better monitor course conditions

Very dissatisfied in course conditions. Course had been recently aerated and we were not told when booking. Greens still had bumps and sand in aerification holes. I don't recommend course only due to the course''s management not being honest about this. Otherwise course was good. Disappointed that Golf Now didn't tell us about aerification. I don't know if that is Golf Nows fault for not notifying or the courses fault, bUT either way it was disappointing for us.
