Wedgefield Golf Club
About
The course at the Wedgefield Golf & Country Club, although suitable for all golfers, is most appropriate for intermediate players. The affordably priced Wedgefield Golf Club used to be known as Rocket City and Cape Orlando. The course has a classic-Florida style layout with medium sized greens that are guarded by bunkers and fairways lined with cypress trees. There is water on the golf course but it is not a significant factor in the game. However, there is one hole, the par-3 sixth hole that is surrounded on three sides by water. Wedgefield Golf & Country Club, in addition to the course, has a chipping area and putting green as well as a golf school.

A bit disappointing…fairways pretty bad
I hadn’t played Wedgefield in about 30 years. The round was quick as I was the first one off. Major areas reviewed below:
Tee boxes - Not very good but, hey, I’m teeing it up so not a huge concern
Fairways - Probably the worst part. Bare in many areas, lots of weeds.
Bunkers - compacted sand and no rakes
Greens - Surprisingly, almost flawlessly green and beautiful. Nearly no blemishes on most greens made it difficult as I usually use old marks and brown spots for aim. However, the grass really grabs the ball do it’s pretty slow. Almost like a carpet and fake…it looked amazing…just lots of friction when trying to roll the ball
Layout - Nothing special and generally unimaginative
Too expensive for course conditions
Too expensive for golf course conditions and few amenities available
Great Condition with 1 Exception
Ever that’s green was in great shape. Only reason for not giving 5 stars is the bunkers were very compact and there were no rakes. Overall great condition and not too many hazards for a novice player.
Shot my best score
Simple course. Not much in the way only a few streams that are a little annoying cause your ball is influenced to roll into them. They are putting in work to update some stuff which is nice.
Reorganizing and improvements
The course is currently going through some improvements. Relocation of some teeboxes to a more difficult shot over water. Still no GPS tracking on the golf carts. It’s good to see them trying to make some changes for the better
Some of the fairways need some attention as the grass is ver sporadic and thin forcing hitting off dirt when a lie is perfectly in the middle of the fairway. Greens are in good shape and putting true from green to green
Gorgeous greens!
The greens were gorgeous, the boxes were in pretty good shape, but the fairways are hurting. Lots of different grass growing, some grass was so tall you felt like you were playing in a backyard. The layout is a good fun track that makes you think. All in all for a $45 round, I would play here again.
Good first round on vacation
Picked after reading reviews. Not too expensive when battling jet lag. Greens a little slow but smooth. Course a little rough in patches.
Still needs a LOT of work
No where near 4 star. Tees randomly marked, no sand (dirt), greens are SLOW and BUMPY, fairways mostly dirt or flattened random grass. Fairway and rough collars not obvious at all. Cart paths built for ATVs.
Local treasure
New owner and staff are working hard to improve the course. Each time i’ve played it there are teams spreading soil in the bare spots and you can see the improvements made to the tee boxes. Greens look and roll nice. Well worth playing.
You asked!
Very rough conditions, no direction markings, no distance markings, antique carts, ect… We used to play 20 -25 years ago, it was In much better shape then!!!
Value for the price
Greens were recently punched so they were hairy and slow, but typically they are in good shape. Fairways are very dry, firm, and thin so woods and long irons can run a lot. Biggest issue with pace is that there is no starter or ranger, just tee off when you are ready, so lots of singles and twosomes following threes and fours. That being said, two of us played in just over 3 hours. Defi by kelt worth the $30-35 green fee.
