Wedgefield Golf Club
About
The course at the Wedgefield Golf & Country Club, although suitable for all golfers, is most appropriate for intermediate players. The affordably priced Wedgefield Golf Club used to be known as Rocket City and Cape Orlando. The course has a classic-Florida style layout with medium sized greens that are guarded by bunkers and fairways lined with cypress trees. There is water on the golf course but it is not a significant factor in the game. However, there is one hole, the par-3 sixth hole that is surrounded on three sides by water. Wedgefield Golf & Country Club, in addition to the course, has a chipping area and putting green as well as a golf school.

Nice Surprise
First time playing this course . Met 2 of my sons who live in Orlando there. Interesting layout with nice par 5s . Will do better next time after knowing the hazards and landing areas better.
Better than it use to be
Have not played the course in many years. Thought I would give it a try. Greens were in excellent condition and tee boxes were very good. Fairways were average at best as I thought the grass covering was thin and it felt as if I was frequently hitting off of hard pan. Overall, a nice improvement from it once was but it still has a ways to go.
Wedgefield County Club
The course was well manicured. The pace of play was slow, due to the front nine being closed. There was a John Deere demo that tied up the front nine.
I was disappointed to find out the front nine was closed, only after I received my tee time confirmation from Golf Now. There was NO mention of the 9 hole closure when I reserved the tee time on the Golf Now reservation page.
The remaining 9 holes were so crowded, I left after playing 9 holes.
Great value
Really enjoyed the layout of the course. Greens were in nice shape as well. Definitely worth the money.
Nice course
Friendly staff, great pace of play. Course was in really nice condition.
Nice course
I play here regularly and like it they’ve done some upgrades to the greens and they are very good this particular day they overbooked some 40 people that play there once every five weeks were there some 14 people in another league and a men’s league. It took 30 minutes to get a cart to start my round and then the round ended up taking close to four hours.
Golf Carts
We waited 20 minutes after our tee time because there were not enough golf carts. We will not play again until after the busy season is over.
Everyone at course was friendly and helpful. Restaurant was slow as they were busy. Food was fresh and tasty
No carts
Had 1009 tee time but no carts were available. Did not tee off until 11.
Mixed feelings
Overall, I liked the course, but the lack of carts ended up spoiling the whole experience for me.
I understand things happen and assume this isn’t the norm but the mistake could have been immediately rectified and wasn’t. Because of this we ended up taking over 5 hours to play the round…as a 5 handicap, this was TORTURE!
The tee time ahead of us had to wait on 2 carts. Once they got them, we probably had another 10-15 minutes before we got 1 cart. About another 10-15 minutes went by and next thing we know a couples foursome shows up with 2 carts and they go around us. We discovered they had a later tee time than us but said since they had the carts they were going.
We immediately checked with the clubhouse who admitted the mistake and brought us another cart but didn’t ask the group he put ahead of us to wait for us to go…we were a threesome. This would have changed our entire experience.
The result was this group was constantly behind the group ahead of them by 3 holes and we waited EVERY SINGLE SHOT. I confronted them and they wouldn’t let us through but did play slightly faster the 2nd nine. We even had a couple, who were equally upset, skip us and the group ahead of us. We considered it but we paid to play 18 holes, not 17.
I would like to return to play because I liked the course and the value…but am leery as my playing partner indicated this was the 2nd time a cart situation has occurred.
The feedback is intended to help course management so something like this can be avoided in the future.
If not for this occurrence, I would rate the overall a 4 and would change my recommendation to yes.
Wedgefield Gets Better Every Year!
As a Michigan snowbird I’ve discovered the course about 5 or 6. I think it’s ownership had just changed and the course needed a lot of work. At that time I think that about 6 or 7 of the greens on the front were in decent shape and virtually all of the greens on the back were in poor condition.
But, the price was right so I’ve been returning yearly. The 2023 course conditions were very good. All of the greens were in tip top shape as were the fairways and tee boxes. I started playing by myself, and met up with two golfers from New York. It took little over 3 hours to complete play. I expect to play Wedgefield several times before I return to Michigan.
