Wedgefield Golf Club
About
The course at the Wedgefield Golf & Country Club, although suitable for all golfers, is most appropriate for intermediate players. The affordably priced Wedgefield Golf Club used to be known as Rocket City and Cape Orlando. The course has a classic-Florida style layout with medium sized greens that are guarded by bunkers and fairways lined with cypress trees. There is water on the golf course but it is not a significant factor in the game. However, there is one hole, the par-3 sixth hole that is surrounded on three sides by water. Wedgefield Golf & Country Club, in addition to the course, has a chipping area and putting green as well as a golf school.

Decent Course
The pace of play was quite poor. No starter and seemed like they just were pumping people out onto the course so there were a lot of singles and twosome stacking up. The course was in decent shape and the greens were mostly ok. Can't complain for $25.
How do you not have enough carts???
Where to start, we arrived 35 minutes prior to our 1:10 tee time to be told that we’re on a waiting list for carts and it should be about a half an hour. No problem I said can I get a bucket of range balls to which they answer “we’re out of range balls”.
While standing at the practice green at the first tee a group pulled up at 1:30 with a cart and we asked what time their tee time was and they told us they were a walk up. When I asked the guy in the pro shop how does that happen and he answered that he had a gap in the schedule. Not sure how he had a gap when we’re at 1:45 and his 1:10 has yet to even get a cart!! The group that pulled up were understanding and even gave up the cart and then we waited another 10 minutes before the other two we we’re playing with received a cart. The course itself was in good shape and the greens were nice but with many options in the area I doubt I’ll ever be back!
A gem
For what they charge, the greens are in great condition! Everyone was friendly and staff was very helpful.
Fantastic value for money
Everyone should try this coarse .a great variety of holes and distances. Greens were in great shape. Friendly staff in clubhouse and green keepers ..would definitely play this again
Fun course with good layout and friendly staff
The course conditions were much improved since we played it last spring. Overall, it was in very good condition and the re-built 18th t-box is now in operation. This course drains well and appears to have had less impact from the last two hurricanes than many of the other courses around here. What I love most about this course is I can always get a t-time, the staff is very friendly and laid back and they never force strangers to play together.
Nice one
Loved it! Greens were well maintained but a bit slow. Great value for money.
Course continues to improve
Played on a Saturday afternoon and still had a good pace of play.. The owner continues to improve the course and is currently building a new tee box on #18. I’ll definitely be back to play again.
It's well worth playing, fairways are full of grass as the owner a super hard working man has done a wonderful job with everything, thank you !!
The Wedge is Fun Layout
First time at Wedgefield, and glad I paired up with another Single who plays here regularly. This course is just my size .....a good mix of short & long holes, and generous fairways for the straight Driver. The greens have fun undulations, and would be really tough if not putting on the slow/grainy side (understandable for new rebuilt tiff-dwarf's). The ProShop Starter was very welcoming, even to this Old GolfNow player. Thanx for the great Hot Deals, and I will be back.
Really good for the money.
Course used to be in rough condition, but they’ve put time and money into bringing it back. Not the best conditions in town, but it’s a huge turn around and for the price it’s great. If it’s been awhile, give it another chance, you won’t be disappointed.
Fun Round @ The Wedge
First time playing The Wedge, and I was pleasantly surprised. I saw reviews how this course in "on the comeback trail," but I can't compare to any past experience. The proshop attendant/starter was very pleasant & welcoming, even to this Old Hack (they can see a Hot Deal Special walking in the door). I teamed up with a really nice guy, who knew the course, and good thing too. There are a few doglegs, creeks & water hazards that he clearly pointed out. I was a good student, hit the T-ball well & didn't lose a ball. The greens were a bit slow, but then again, I could tell the new strain of tiff-dwraft that needs some growth time. There is a good mix of short & long holes (a couple of 400yd+ Par4's), but fairways are forgiving to an extent. The greens are undulating, and once they quicken up, will present a whole new challenge to this little course. I could see the constant work on the course ---#18 T-box under construction. Thanx to GN for the Hot Deals, and now that I know the course (short travel from eastern Orlando), I will be back.
Getting better
Played this course last year and thought it wasn’t for me. Tried it again this year, and it has had quite the turn around. Course is in much better condition, and looks like they are continuing to work on it. The greens are about what the price reflects, but better than the same price range in the area. Staff was great, people were nice, and the layout was fun.
Getting Better...
For the last year or so every time I'm at Wedgefield I see the owner out there working sweating and spending his money making improvements to tee boxes, cart paths and greens just to make it a nicer course and it shows. It gets better all the time. If only everyone would repair their Ball marks on the greens and keep the Golf Carts on the path it will remain to get even better.
Keep up the good work Mr. Owner and Thanks.
Surprised by The Wedge
Course in good shape. Yes, greens could be quicker, but looks as if they are being careful with the new grasses. This is a fun Layout, good mix of short holes with couple of 400yd+ Par4s, and lengthy Par5s; dogleds & plenty of greens' guards -- trees or sand bunkers (which have good sand & in nice shape, although rakes are needed for players to do their part). I played well, just putted poorly due to my own deficient stroke (& slow greens)......should have broken 80. Staff very pleasant & welcoming; we can tell new owner is investing in course improvements. Thanx to GN for the Hot Deals special ..... I'll be back!
