Southcreek winds through a magnificent setting of coastal wetlands and hardwood forests. Most golfers find SouthCreek to be the "finess" course of the three golf courses at Myrtle Beach National. At just over 6,400 yards from the back tees, SouthCreek requires less distance but greater accuracy. Numerous waste areas and well protected bentgrass greens, place a premium on your course management and shot-making ability.

Enjoyable layout

Have played South Crerk several time. It's a lady friendly layout while being challenging enough for the average golfer. Pace of play was a problem the day we played. We were the 2nd afternoon tee time and waited over 30 minutes for the morning's lat 3 groups to make the turn. The final group was more than 10 minutes behind group in front of them. The course need to have policy in place to speed up the extremely slow groups. Even that being said, enjoy the course when playing with wife.

Course

Course was undergoing a lot of grounds work that wasn’t announced when booking the course. Also, on course attendants did a bad job of watering as multiple tee boxes and greens were soaked and on one hole sprinklers cut on while we were trying to tee off making us all get wet on a very chilly day.

Staffing

Course was nice, clubhouse was very short staffed. You had to wait in line with the the people ordering lunches/dinner even if you were just buying a water. Long story short it was 45mins to get a water. They need a separate person just taking care of people getting drinks.

Conditions not great

Sad to only give this 2*. We played this course 3 years ago and it was great. Today, not the case at all. Greens were in rough shape, looked like they were losing a few. Fairways were hard and and had random dead patches of sand throughout. Weeds over growing the fairways in spots. Tee boxes were torn up. Typically Founders courses are pretty solid, right now Southcreek isn't playing like that at all

Outstanding course

We booked a tee time for the West Course. When we arrived, we saw how busy it was on West. The pro shop staff suggested we play South Creek, as it was not as busy at the time. This was a great decision!

The staff is friendly and helpful. Bags are unloaded from the car and placed on a cart for you by affable staff. A similar experience was had in the pro shop and with the starter. The restaurant / bar is very nice.

The course is the shortest of the three Arnold Palmer designed courses at MB National. Fairways are a little tighter and require smart club selection on the tee and well aimed hits to landing areas. Yardage markers are liberally placed on each hole, so there is no guessing about distances, necessary to select the right club. Holes are among houses, yet you don't feel crowded by them. There is some water (fairway edges marked by flags) and enough bunkers to make you play smart golf. (It is not a bomb it off the tee design.)

The course is in excellent shape. With a dry summer, it has been watered well; the Bermuda grass is in excellent late-summer shape. They were in the process of dressing the greens with sand; yet when they completed a green, it was very playable with minimal impact of the sand that had been worked into the green.

Pace of play was good. My wife is a slow player; we let several groups play through and no group had to wait for shots.

Of the courses we played during our week in Myrtle Beach, MB National South Creek was the most enjoyable by far.

Myrtle Beach National

Played 36 at myrtle beach national with South Creek being first up. First class facility. Starts with bag drop. People were helpful and answered all questions. South Creek was a fun course, conditions were pristine. Tall pines, manicured rough , fast true greens. Rangers were out to keep pace up. A little waiting but they were on top of it. Ranger would stop and ask how it was going , how we were enjoying our round, etc. Nice touch. Played the West Course on a replay. A little shorter, obviously The easier of the 3 courses. Flawless fairways, boxes and greens. What else you need!?! Clubhouse has a neat full swinging snack bar with smiley people. And eating while surrounded by Arnold Palmer pictures and equipment!?! No brainer to play here, and already looking forward to next time!! Enjoy!!

Enjoyable for All Levels

Played 36 at Myrtle Beach National with the first 18 on South Creek. We were all impressed with the conditioning of the greens and how enjoyable the course was overall. It is a shorter track, but it's not without challenges. The holes allow opportunities for short, straight hitters as well as power players to succeed and make birdies. Overall, the course is a great value for the price and you can replay on the much more expensive King's North for a low rate.

Mb national southcreek

Had a fun time playing South Creek...course in good shape..greens were smooth and rolled with good pace. Kings North is obviously the gem of the property but this was a fun lil course. Lots of fun holes lots of par 4's under 400 yds requiring accuracy not distance....warning*** they run split tees...don't think a morning time will help you beat the hackers...u wait on them at the turn

Good to return to Myrtle Beach National, Southcreek

I've played this course about 5 years ago and remember it a being challenging but fair. Nothing has really changed. Overall conditions were good considering the area had received 4+ inches of rain a couple of days before.

The weakest link at MBN

I'm a big fan of two of the three courses at Myrtle Beach National, but I have a hard time getting on board with Southcreek. It's a little too dated, cramped and generic for my tastes. It's the only course here at MBN that has houses lining every hole and it's shortish yardage with severe doglegs means a lot of irons off the tee. Seniors may enjoy this element though (but not the wealth of sand). If you're on one of the many golf packages that includes free replays, stick to the other two here. The West is the same price point and has a much more fun routing, while King's North is one of my favorite MB splurges.
